Chapter 1: Action/Video

(Action)

[With the autumn season approaching, leaves are changing, nuts are falling from trees. And a girl with a draconic wingspan almost as big as she is.

Myrrh doesn't usually enter the city proper, but she walked the roads, timidly avoiding humans, flapping her wings to blow leaves off the roads and picking up acorns and other scattered nuts to bring to the squirrels, right until she accidentally blows leaves in the face of someone who just turned the corner.

Myrrh gasps and ducks behind a light post, watching with guilty and apologetic eyes.]

[An uncommon sight. Myrrh has the camera properly angled so her face is in view.]

...Do the humans here...participate in traditional festivals? What were festivals like where you all are from?

Ack!

[That sudden gust of leaves was not expected, pulling some away from their face the youth looked around to find a light post had suddenly grown dragon wings and guilty eyes. It was hard to be mad at such a look and offered a hand and a smile to the girl.]

I'm not mad about what happened, my name is Marth. May I have yours?

[Myrrh hesitated to come out at first, but then she did. When she took that one step, there was a loud crunch. She looked underfoot, and there was the acorns she was gathering to bring back to the forest. The squirrels will need to find nuts on their own. She put aside her sadness for now.]

Marth...? My name's Myrrh.

Hello Myrrh, it's nice to meet you. May I ask why you were hiding?

[It wouldn't do if there were threats lying about where they traveled.]

[Loooong silence. Then she managed to get the shameful truth out.]

...You surprised me.

[While she is sure she did the surprising, it was still true enough.]

[There was a soft frown that creased their lips.]

I'm sorry. Is there any way I can make it up to you?

N-No, it's okay...

[A pause for a thought.]

...Unless... Will you help me pick up nuts for the woodland animals?

I'll be more than happy to help with that. Do you have a bag of some sort to use?

[If not, it'd be inefficient but they could use their vest.]

[It's embarassing to say, but she is always careful.]

No bag or basket, just, um...

[She takes the front hem of her dress and holds it like a basket. Thankfully the outfit is long enough to pull it off.]

...I do this.

I see, how clever. I'll feel bad if I use your skirt to carry all of the nuts though.

[Taking off their vest, they fashioned it like a small basket before helping to gather the various acorns and nuts they could find.]

So what prompted you to help the woodland animals?

[Good thinking! Myrrh was already picking up whatever nuts she dropped early.]

Well... I live in the forest. I share it with them. It feels right to help them...

[Like a good neighbor.]

You live in the forest? It's nice that you're thinking about the animals that live there, but what will you do when winter comes?

[It didn't take love for 'Marth' to fill up their vest before looking at Myrrh on where to bring their harvest.]

I'll be fine...

[Warm fuzzies. It's nice to be worried about, but Myrrh doesn't want anyone to be burdened like that. Myrrh begins to lead the way down a path going into the forest.]

I lived my whole life in Darkling Woods.

[She takes a handful nuts at a time before throwing them out into random directions, scattering them for the critters to find.]

[Taking the cue, 'Marth' starts doing to same, scattering the nuts about for the forest creatures.]

Your whole life? Is it not lonely?

No. Well... Maybe a little... I had my father, and later, a man named Saleh.

[Myrrh hates being alone. It also wasn't long before Myrrh ran out of nuts to toss into the forest.]

['Marth' seemed thoughtful for a moment before looking over at the girl. They were concerned, but she seemed like she was trying to stay strong and to her ways.]

Would it be okay if I come to visit you? You're more than welcome to come visit me as well. I can make sure to bring more nuts and maybe a small something else for the forest creatures to eat.

[Myrrh's wings rise for a moment, her interest was piqued.]

I... I'll take you up on that.
Where do you live, exactly...?

I live in Attleton inside of a place called The Honeybee.

In this world? Humans have a few festivals. The ones I remember are one called "Halloween" in October, and then in December, they celebrate something called "Christmas."

We have different holidays in my world, but no one celebrates them here...

[It's a dragon! Suddenly it feels just a tiny bit less lonely, even if this one doesn't appear to be a manakete.]

Halloween and...Christmas... I would like to know more.

[Now that sounds lonely... Myrrh can't really help but empathize.]

...But do you celebrate them still?

I don't know much about...Halloween or Christmas. I just know that Halloween is for "scary things," and for Christmas, people give each other gifts.

For celebrating our holidays here...we don't really have the resources. The marketplace that has the holiday apparel and things...it isn't here.

[Scary things? Probably not going to be something she would enjoy. Christmas however would be right up her alley. What would Marth like for Christmas?]

I see... I suppose you can't recreate the apparel in this world?

[For reasons of sanctity or otherwise.]

No...I don't know how to make apparel, especially for humans...let alone make enough for everyone...

[Come to think of it, she has no idea where the holiday-themed apparel even comes from.]

...Is apparel the only way to celebrate your holidays?

[Because you can wear clothes every day.]

Well, they're special holiday-themed apparel...and they come out with a different one for each holiday each year. And then there are special items to gather all over Sornieth, which we use as a currency to trade in for the holiday item...

[LEAVES!

That's okay. Ryoma shook his head a bit at the sudden burst of the wind. It was very unexpected, but all was okay. Brushing his face off, the prince heard a gasp.]

..You don't need to be afraid. Was that you with such power?

[Myrrh peeks out from her hiding spot again. The first thing she noticed was the big hair.

Really big hair. And she though Marisa had a lot of hair. Myrrh finally steps out of hiding, keeping her hands clasped together in front.

Then, she only nods, confirmed she is the child-size, dragon-powered leaf blower.]

[Ah a ch--WITH DRAGON WINGS WOAH. No, a Manakete. Ryoma's face softened as he approached]

What were you doing? I'm only curious, and if I stepped in your way, then it is truly my fault.

[Ryoma gave her a smile] I am Ryoma. Are you..a Manakete, by chance..?

[Myrrh remained quiet to let the man talk. Before she had a chance to introduce herself, she got that question. Her wings opened excitedly as she tightened her hands together in delighted hope.]

Y-you know of us?!

[Whoops! That was not being a proper lady. She just didn't expect there to be anyone who knew of the manakete, since everyone she met before never asked or even heard of her kind. She folded her wings and composed herself, calmly replying.]

Umm... I'm Myrrh... I-I am a manakete, yes.

Of course. While they are rare, they are still known in Hoshido. Even Nohr most likely.

In fact my younger sister, Corrin, is a manakete herself.

[Ryoma marveled at her wings and her changed tone of voice] Where are you from, perhaps we are from the same land?

[Sister? Therefore related. Therefore where are your dragon features! She's too polite to ask, though.]

I come from Darkling Woods... I have never heard of Nohr or Hoshido, though.

[They were certainly not on the Magvel continent.]

Hm..how peculiar. But there are more regions, I am sure. Or worlds with manaketes.

[SOMEONE'S been listening to Leo and Xander, Nohrian traitor. He could hear the hissing from his brother]

I'm glad for a familiar face regardless. Are you familiar with this place or are you new just like I am miss..?

I am new, yes... I haven't seen much beyond Fayren forest.

[Too shy to leave the forest and explore far.]

[Ryoma nodded]

That is probably for the best. When I arrived here, the many clashes of cultures are-well-still overwhelming. Best not to take everything in at once.

Fayren is a grand place for Manaketes. [Finally the Prince stood] Did you find a job per chance? If not, I can provide assistance when needed.

[Myrrh agrees. Lots of room for her dragon form. It's soul-crushingly lonely though.

She looked up in curiosity at the question.]

...a job? What do I need a job for?

[Ryoma opened his mouth, then closed it. Did..manaketes need a place to live? They certainly hunt, and are self-sufficient, but..]

If you would like, a job is good for a lot of things. It can get you a warm place to live, food on the table, and money for fun. Perhaps other things too if you work more so.

But-that is-if you are interested in such things.
