[Video/Reaction] Cooking with Grumpy: The Third One
Who: Satori and YOU
What: Cooking with Eyeball Monsters, ROUND THREE.
Where: Chireiden
When: 10/17
Warnings: Excessively spooky dour youkai, snark and cute sisters being even cuter.
The feed starts up with Satori. The timestamp seems to mark this around sunset, just past most sane people's dinner time. Once again, that expansive kitchen is arrayed with all manner of utensils, jars, bowls, pots and cups and all of them immaculately clean and ready for use. A few pumpkins can be seen lining the counter, including one that's already been cut and pre-scooped - suggesting wordlessly at the contents of the first couple jars.
Except this time, Satori seems to be wearing what appears to be a set of baggy dark robes and an equally spooky-looking hood over her dour features clasped with a brooch resembling her third eye. Her real third eye can be seen vaguely peering out the side of the folds of fabric, judging everybody ever, forever.
"Greetings, mortals and otherwise. I'm aware that in some lands and worlds, this month is all about fear and darkness, as the days grow shorter. Expect this recipe to be equally...heart-stopping. Satori Komeiji, the premier chef of Chireiden has deigned to offer you some festive cooking tips to ameliorate even the most frightening of your questionable life choices."
Oh, and let's not forget the Satori action figure on the counter. She's posed in a manner that seems overly dramatic and intimidating, her little plastic hand cupped over a rather disturbingly inhuman grin. When the hell did they make one with a face like THAT?
"For this recipe, it's advisable to pre-heat your ovens up to proper baking temperature to avoid embarrassment - I've read that's about 218C or 425F, depending on measurement. I was making this for my sister at a certain person's request. Assuming either of them haven't already caught wind of it, by now."
...There's a faint noise and a slight scraping of metal as Satori positions the pumpkin on a worn cutting board.
"Our special guest is the ever-lovely seasonal squash-esque plant, the pumpkin. Let's give it the warm welcome it deserves."
She lifts a hefty looking knife and suddenly, with frightening dexterity, cleaves one of the lesser pumpkins in half with neither pity nor remorse. Those pumpkins are roughly the same size as a human head, making her ease of slicing it all the more visceral.
"By dividing it lengthwise in half. We've enough pumpkin for two dishes, today. In either case, make sure to remove all the seeds and separate them from the flesh. The seeds, when roasted, can also serve as a quick snack when there's little else to eat. My sister and I are quite aware that even seeds are better than starvation."
Using a ladle, she quickly scoops out the innards of the pumpkin and stuffs it in the jar, her third eye unnervingly focused on the camera the whole time. She looks remarkably sinister, even doing something so simple, when that hood falls over her face. She grabs an implement to mash the pumpkin filling until it's a very smooth consistency, almost a puree.
And that's even before she gets out the pie tin and the pre-rolled dough, carefully folding it into the dish. She dumps the mashed pumpkin into two large, separate bowls. She gathers up some containers from below the counter, filled with sugar, mixed spices and salt. Very, very carefully, she lays a few eggs on the counter.
She cracks the eggs into a smaller bowl and pours the yolks and whites into the pumpkin mix. She adds the milk without any trouble and mixes in a dash of salt, sugar and the spice-mix. That is, until a certain racoon's furry hand steals an egg, to Satori's rather visible dismay.
"...Oh gods." A sigh... "You'll need to combine and mix some eggs, milk, sugar and whatever other spice and garnish you'd prefer, to taste. Cinnamon is popular, as are cloves. But will be sticking with the former. Cinnamon's a taste I've grown rather fond of, while I've been here...and Koishi isn't too fond of cloves."
She begins beating and mixing the ingredients until they're nice and smooth, then pours the mixture into the pie tin, making sure that none of it spills over, placing the resulting pie into the oven.
"This part is so simple that even young humans can manage. Place it in the oven and bake the pie for roughly a half-hour. Though, if you have time to waste, you could equally let it run for 40 minutes and nothing of value is lost."
She turns away after checking the oven again and produces a pot, taking the pumpkin puree and pouring it inside.
"I've already pre-cut many of the ingredients for this second recipe, to save time. Using the remainder of the pumpkin mixture, I'm we would all be fond of some soup, as the weather grows colder. To this end, chicken stock and onion for flavour, some thyme, and some salt and pepper. This recipe called for garlic, originally, but I'm omitting it in case of...health concerns."
She places the ingredients into the pot, one by one and turns on the heat.
"Let this boil, then simmer for twenty minutes to a half-hour. If the soup is far too thick to even consider eating, be sure to stir and beat the content until creamy. Boil again for another twenty to thirty minutes after that, and you've a perfect meal for company on a fall evening."
It is at this point that a certain green haired youkai floats over to the pot, stirring it several times. She drifts over to where Satori had set the sugar down, extending one finger for a taste--
"...Koishi! Don't you dare, I'm not nearly done..." Satori waves away her sister, trying to dissuade her from messing about with the ingredients further. "Give it some time and we'll have more than enough to eat..."
"Okaaaay." Giggling, Koishi zipped off, doing a little loop in the air before rounding a corner.
She looks over to one side of the room and mumbles despondently...
"Look at the time...I should have spent longer preparing--"
Before shutting the feed off for the night. Seems she's got some plans.
