( Hey Dante, you'll hear a firm knock on the door of the shop. She'd gone to Chiedren as he instructed, bottle of Oni Sake in hand, waiting patiently for Dante to arrive at the door.

It was a little strange to her, she had to admit. She'd never actually met this man in person, but there was something pleasantly familiar about him through their conversations. It was something to ponder on. )

{ closed, action; shirou emiya, backdated to 10/13 }

( In the time since she'd arrived in Genessia, Integra had taken the liberty of acquiring various kitchenware and utensils.

She lacked any real experience in the kitchen, typically leaving such tasks up to her butler or the maid staff. But here, she was on her own, and she was far too proud to be dependant on someone else for her meals in this world. Hence why she is, now, waiting in the living room of her apartment for Shirou to arrive. When she hears a knock, she'll come to open the door. )

Do you feel safe in Everglade?
[√] YES [ ] NO
Do you feel the law enforcement in Everglade serves the people?
[√] YES [ ] NO
What laws do you feel would improve Everglade?

I don't see a point in worrying over it. Everglade is for those on the fringes of society. Laws might interfere in their way of life.

What steps could the law enforcement in Everglade take to improve?
Only intervene when necessary.

What laws do you feel would improve Everglade?
Why the hell would I want anything to change? It suits my needs as it is so fucking leave it alone.
What steps should the law enforcement in Everglade take to improve?
Nothing. Don't try to fix what's not broken.

You asked put up a poll to see how people felt about Everglade. I'm giving you my opinion whether you like it or not.

As far as I'm concerned, I am> giving you constructive criticism you stuck up bitch. I think Everglade is fine just the way it is. If the humans don't like it, they can leave. They're choosing to live here just like we fucking are.

Hello there, anon! Nice to meet you!

Could you fill out the form yourself? I'm Detective Satou Kuroneko, and if you have concerns then I'd like to hear them.

[Don't feel special. Li's like this with everyone.]

You didn't like my constructive criticism. That makes you a bit of a bitch in my book. Why wouldn't you want opinions of everyone that lives or hunts there?

Nice to meet you, Detective. Detective Carver is gonna hiss at us later. He didn't like me asking for opinions before.

Everglade is a city with a native population of "supernaturals." Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and associated hauntings or curses are very common here. As such, it's the ideal place for pendent bearers who are non-human. Our native human population is kept safe by laws that prohibit preying upon them, but we have an emphasis on solving the human-meal problem: We have a set-up with the inmates of death row to be taken here, as well as bloodbanks and similar establishments.

Our role here is to maintain enough peace that people may live their lives, but maintain the mystery and fear as much as possible. Have you been informed about the barrier?

Everglade's the way it is for a lot of very good reasons. The whole city operates as a powerplant to fuel the barriers protecting all of the cities, and that powerplant runs on fear. I'm not speaking metaphorically, either. You make Everglade 'safe' and every single person in every city will be in mortal danger.

[She giggles,] It rubbed me the wrong way too, but I understand his reasoning. Our department needs balance between those of us listening to the citizens, and those looking at the bigger picture. Detective Carver was looking out for everyone in his own way.

[The extra information does help, and Satou receives it with a nod.]

So we've both got experience in it. That's good. I worked with the magic user's government back home: I hunt down and arrest the criminals that escape the human police force.

As for the barrier: It's the one that covers the cities. It keeps everyone inside these select areas. My understanding is that the barrier is keeping something out more than it keeps us in. The fear generated from Everglade is what is powering that barrier. So until we find an alternative source of power, or a way to combat the unknown force, we need to respect the balance these five cities have already established.

I gave you my opinion. Isn't that what you asked for?

[Does that answer your question? Human concepts still.. confuse her a little.]

...I am being civil.

[When Dante hears the knock, he only glances up from his desk, expecting whoever it was to let themselves in. Everyone else did, after all. After a moment he arched an eyebrow trying to figure out whether this was some sort of trap, or something else. Either way, Dante pulls Ivory from its holster, holding it behind his back as he approached. Slowly the knob pulled before throwing it open. Once he sees it's just Integra he sighs a bit, holstering Ivory once more.]

Sorry 'bout that. It's been forever since someone didn't just let themselves in and didn't try to impale me when the door opened.

[He gestures for her to come in after taking the bottle of Oni Sake.]

I've got some compensation for ya. I do appreciate you running the errand. Paperwork has been driving me nuts...

[He walks back to his desk and pulls a large bottle of expensive looking Scotch and offering it to Integra.]

Yes, ma'am. Dante is my boss. I'm one of the Deputies in Attleton.

If you're not interested in maintaining fear, you may do well in Genessia City or Fayren. They both face similar supernatural threats, but the law enforcement there isn't in the same position as we are here.

[Satou gives her head a small shake.]

Unfortunately, I haven't learned much about it. You may wish to speak to someone who has been here longer for a more detailed account. The GSRF may also be of use to you. But I believe before we make any attempt to significantly change laws in Everglade, we need a better understanding of that unknown force and the barrier. I don't have the resources to fund any research into it yet.

I suggest not messing with Everglade. It is a haven to many and there are reasons it is the way it is.

I see... Then, I think you should reach out to the non-human residents. Your questionnaire probably feels threatening to them and is going to make them uneasy. They already get enough hatred just because their dietary needs are different from ours.

I'm not opposed to another candidacy for Guardian here, but please keep that in mind. It's possible for a place to be safe, but for people to still feel afraid of it. That's what our goal here is. Our crime rate is managed, but it's the threat that makes the citizens lock their doors at night.

[If only Rip really knew who she was talking to...]

Stereotyping, misinformation... The fact that not every non-human that has been relocated here is violent.

I know a few non-humans that are pretty harmless despite their status as a 'monster'. But, from what I have seen...sometimes just being a certain creature will get one branded as a threat even when they haven't done anything. Yes, fear is needed for the barrier... but, not all of us need to be feared for that.
