Initial Reactions/Locked to Amatsu Inn & backdated to 1st day of the event
Tomoe felt grimaced in her sleep as something in her back started to cramp, the discomfort bringing her to a semi-conscious state, at least before a sudden stretching sensation combined with the loud ripping of fabric startled her awake entirely. She sat up quickly, breathing a question in surprise--until something large shifted behind her, easily large enough to be a person, or a creature and she jumped, twisting toward it in the dark, only to see it seem to spread and loom over her--and something else large and heavy shift directly on the futon beside her. Without thinking she scrambled to her feet, screaming--
--and the room suddenly lit with a burst of light from no recognizable source, blinding her for half a second, but then giving enough light that she could see that there was nothing there. She gasped for breath, eyes searching the room before realizing that the only reason she could see was because the bedding was on fire. Just as fast she dropped to her knees, grabbing at the portion of the bedding that wasn't alight to try to smother the flame--when she finally noticed her body, or at least her hands which had become scaled, her fingers tipped in sharp black talons.
"What!?!" she gasped, looking down at herself, realizing her sleeping robe was in tatters. Looking over her shoulder her breath caught seeing that what had startled her in the first place was a set of large leathery wings protruding from her own back. "Kenshin!??" she yelped, trying to pull herself out of the shock enough to finish stamping out the burning futon. What in the hell was going on!?!?!
I. Action/Prose near the Amatsu Inn in Fayren--early during the event
While Tomoe would never consider herself the adventuresome sort, her current circumstances seemed to be... pulling her. After all, didn't everyone dream of flying at some point in their lives? And how often did someone find themselves with the means to do so literally upon their backs? But she was still a fundamentally cautious person, so despite the fact that she indeed now had wings she had yet to use them--after all, one did not simply begin to run simply because they had legs. It wouldn't do to jump off a cliff expecting to fly just because one had wings. She would likely wind up dying... again.
So she sat at an overhang near the Amatsu Inn where the river ran past--specifically in an area that she knew was safe for diving--thinking. What if... she did jump? The worst case scenario would be that she'd just fall in the water, right? But she couldn't quite bring herself to try. So instead she remained at the edge, stretching her wings out to feel what wind currents she could and the bit of lift she could sense, trying to build up the courage to jump.
II. Action/Prose Fayren, anytime during the event
Tomoe had forgotten how she had dreamed of flying as a child. In the first year after her mother had died, when she had first stepped into the role of mother for Enishi and before she had perfected sealing her emotions away it was all she had wanted. To have that weight of responsibility lifted off of her shoulders and just fly away from it all...
It was everything she had dreamed it would be. She felt free. Perhaps it was being unbound by land, or the feel of the wind as tugged at her hair, drew over her scaled skin and buffeted her wings. Perhaps it was being able let herself go in some manner other than just pouring her soul into a bound book. She only regretted that it had taken her so long to finally take to the sky.
Supposedly this would only last for a week--and so she was intent on spending as much time in the air as she could, circling the forests around the Amatsu, skimming along the rivers and venturing further and further about Fayren while she was able, no matter how tired and sore her newfound appendages might become.
III. Action/Prose Fayren, anytime during the event
Tomoe had stopped at the river's edge, out of breath and wings quivering from exhaustion. It was fair to say she hadn't had this much physical exertion since she was a girl. She drew her legs up under her, not quite kneeling considering the new shape of her feet, and curled her tail around her while awkwardly trying to fold her wings similarly.
Thinking of the haphazard start to this week she raised one taloned hand to her throat and experimentally blew through pursed lips into the palm of her other hand. Though there were no flames her breath did seem to be warmer than one might expect. Keeping her hand at her throat to try to feel any difference she tried again, adjusting the internal feel of her throat like someone trying to feel out a new sound might, trying again to produce a tongue of flame like she had in her panic the first day.
[ooc; Tomoe is a dragon hybrid and although I don't have clothing in that picture she has managed to basically wind fabric around herself so that she is mostly covered... I just haven't drawn it yet XD;I've also never done a multi-prompt post so hopefully this doesn't suck...]

When she senses Tomoe's presence, she quietly approaches her, like a catt stalking a prey. She freeze as she discovers the dragon lady. She watches her for a bit in silence. What is she doing?
When the flame comes out of her mouth, Mavis throws all caution to the wind and just start applauding her.
"You did it!"
no subject
She wasn't even sure why she was trying to produce the flame in the first place, other than simple curiosity. So when she finally produced a single lick of flame she had a moment of inner excitement--before letting out a small yelp at the voice and clapping. The irony was that her surprised yelp produced a brief ball of flame at least three times larger than the one she'd been working on.

"Sorry... I didn't mean to startle you. I tend to forget I'm scarier than usual this week. Me being a vampire and all."
She didn't actually look scary. Sure she was wearing darker colors than usual and her point canines would show every so often as she spoke. She also was faster and somewhat more playful, like a kitten learning to hunt. But all in all she was still the same Mavis. Not that Tomoe knew her very much.
"So you got turned into a dragon woman? That seems pretty cool."

I
He smelled her long before he saw her. She had a familiar look, too. The kind that's fascinated by her navel. Apprehensive, too, like prey. Was she trying to...? Oh, he knew that pose. He'd seen it in public pools sometimes, when some youth was trying to overcome their fear of the diving board. He knows how to fix that!
Stealthily, he got on padded paws and crept nearer. How silent he was, despite his size! Just a little bit closer. Closer, closer...!]
ARF ARF ARF!
[He leapt out from the bushes and barked at her for all he's got. The best way to overcome your fear is to be pushed into it by another! That should give her just the push she needed]
LOL!
[She yelped, a small ball of fire bursting from her lips as she scrambled to all fours, barely aware of some of the reactions her body went through--for one, the scales along her spine stood up like a dog's hackles, her lips drew back to bare sharp fangs and her wings spread wide and turned slightly forward, all to look larger than she actually was.]
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
[He wrinkled his wet nose; dragon-fire's an unpleasant smell. Despite his size and feigned menace, the haunched, seven-foot monster was wagging his tail and conducting himself like a mischievous pup.]
You just had to pick "fight" instead of "flight", didn't you? What's the occasion for the brooding?
no subject
Mou, are you in the habit of purposefully scaring people?
[She could almost say attempted murder T_T Because you almost gave her a heart attack.]
[Ok, maybe just manslaughter...]
...
I was thinking and it is peaceful here.
no subject
"Can you fly too?"
no subject
She nodded. "Yes, though it took me a long time to try." And it is wonderful. While she is eager to be back to normal she will mourn the loss of flight.
no subject
Haha, 'tis the season. I don't have any pennies, but what were you thinking of?
no subject
[Looking back over the water she watches as a few leaves drift down from the trees, the breeze catching them--and she subconsciously spreads her wings by a hair so that the breeze catches in them.]
I am on temporary leave from my position in the kitchens here as I cannot work easily as I am... And I simply have a lot to sort out.
[That whole being dead thing is a trip and a half...]
...
And I wonder if these wings are functional, but I do not wish to die trying to find out.
no subject
She didn't say it out loud for fear of sounding terribly cliché but... Flying made you feel so free.
no subject
Ah, there's a familiar setback. Wouldn't be the first time a costume threw one out of work. Still, one problem might solve another. Is there a better time to sort than one's days off? What's being sorted?
[Curiosity killed the cat, but wolves should be fine. He peered into the overhang.]
Sensible enough, but unless you're more delicate, that drop wouldn't kill. If you failed and fell you'd get a good swim for your trouble.
no subject
"You can fly normally?"
no subject
[Looking down at the water again.]
I usually am that delicate...
[But she did seem to be more robust in this form in general,so perhaps.]
no subject
Is it much wiser to be thoughtless to strangers? That treats them, I think, rather badly. Am I a total stranger, then?
no subject
Yes--I met you only a few minutes ago and do not even know your name or if you are always a wolf normally.
[Blunt Tomoe is blunt :|]
no subject
So much the better! The most important things are told to total strangers; in that you come face-to-face with man himself.
[Or half-man...werewolf...whatever, she knows what he means. Probably.]
So the image of God is not disguised by familiarity. Thus, so long as I'm yet strange, I'm the ideal confidant.
[Okay, let him have it!]
no subject
[That's a negative, chief.]
no subject
[So difficult. He may just push out of spite. His tail gives her a gentle whack.]
Come on, what's the harm? Everyone thinks I listen marvelously well; you wouldn't believe the tales I get unsolicited. What oath should I make? What bribe should I offer?
no subject
Once words have been spoken they cannot be taken back... and once they are said aloud they become real.
no subject
Don't you love reality?
no subject

no subject
[Yep, we're doing this.]
[Staring forever :|]
no subject
What, ahaha, a strange answer. Well, I'll try another question. Were you considering jumping off this ledge, just before my arrival?
no subject
[She hums in the back of her throat and looks over the water again.]
Yes--to fly, of course.
no subject
Of course.
[Satisfied, he springs up.]
Then what are we waiting for! Let's have it!
no subject
[She looks out again, feels the slight tug in her wings again and... well, what the hell.]
[She slowly stands up herself, taking another step toward the edge...]
no subject
[And what a strange spirit it is. Ted had read, in psychological studies, that whenever approached with a high ledge like this, most entertained thoughts of jumping off. Not unhealthy people, not depressed, but nearly everyone. And he was no exception. Not because he wanted or even expected death, but because...
Lightly he stepped in front of her, back to the edge and eyes alight with cherubic intent.]
You'll need all the lift you can get. Shall I throw you, or will you jump?
no subject
Perhaps... both...
[She took a step back and experimentally gave her wings a good flap, feeling the air displace and her feet leave the ground by just a hair for a split second.]
What do you propose?
no subject
Then I'll fall in after. That way even if it's not enough, I'll break your fall with my fur.
[What a genius plan. It's
foolfullproof!]no subject
[But that nagging desire to use her wings was finally too much.]
Alright.
[Let's do this.]

Here we go!
[He break into a run, dashing towards the edge. Inches before the brink, he holds her out to the side before tossing her into the air with all his werewolf might.]
Godspeed!
[Then he runs off the edge himself, twisting in the air to affix his eyes skyward and see whether she'll fly
or die, laughing as he plunges into the water]1/2
[NO MOM I CHANGED MY MIND I WANT TO GET OFF THE RIIIIIIIIIDE--]
2/2
[This was probably the part of her that also thought it was a good idea to look a murderer in the eye while telling him that he made it rain blood instead of running--she couldn't even blame this one on being drunk--]
[STOP PANICKING]
[She spreads her wings, trying to steady herself while she is still on her way up before her first flight turned into a swan dive. She feels a momentary dip as her upward ascent stops and gravity takes over and in that same second the breeze catches the webbing of her wings and she stabilizes!]
[Holy crap, she's flying.]
Re: 2/2
Ted plunges into the depths, before bobbing up and catching his breath. As he dog paddles to keep afloat, he snaps his muzzle to see whether she'd ascend into heaven, or descend into h--
Hot dog, she's done it! He almost barks with approving laughter.]
Ahaha, well done, well done! Just so! You look like a dragon good enough to slay!
[That's a compliment.]
no subject
[She looks down hearing Ted's voice and seeing that he is indeed alright albeit wet. If she were one to actually display emotions this would be where a normal person would smile or laugh... but she's not normal. Instead she closes her eyes briefly, taking in the feeling of near weightlessness and the satisfaction of having finally done it.]
[She circled back around, wings beating a few times to facilitate the turn--now that she was in the air it was surprising how naturally it seemed to be coming to her. She flew toward the rock face, drawing herself up and flapping her wings to stop her forward momentum before latching onto the side with talons on both fingers and toes before looking down to Ted.]
As mad as that was, I believe I owe you my thanks.
no subject
It's well taken; you've my welcome in kind, thought 'twas my pleasure! The more so if you'll give your name.

[Etymology's his evergreen interest. He idly floated down the winding river, which was surely guiding him to a separate way.]
Keep it, or rather, yourself, up, won't you? Alas, I fear the water moves to part us, leading to aquatic adventure elsewhere. Good morning, good morning, Tomoe! Go under the Mercy!
no subject
[She leaps from the edge, no hesitance this time, and spreads her wings, catching herself just above the water. One strong flap and she's up again--shocking how the natural instinct just took over once she was in the air.]
[See ya weird werewolf guy o/]

She tries to sound humble but she can't manage to stop the smugness from showing through.
