003 - Pilfered Parts And Magic

Who: Andrea Hendricks, and anyone who happens to be in Nova City.
What: "Pilfered Parts" Bounty, Andrea is on the hunt for some thieves.
When: 11.05.
Where: Nova City.
Warnings: None

[ Andrea takes to the streets of Nova City, usually in the more populated places like plazas, bars, shopping and entertainment centers. Definitely within 5 miles of where her target is reported to have been seen. She's no detective, so she did what most people would do and ask around. She waves hello and asks: ]

Hey, got a sec? I'm looking for somethin', I'll be outta your way in a bit but...

[ Holding a holographic image projected from a device on her wrist, is a hovercraft truck that's linked to the thieves. It has a flame decal on the front with purple and orange colors ]

Seen this particular truck around these parts? I know it's a long shot, but it's important.

Video/Action - Fayren

[ Flipping her sunglasses up as she parks her motorcycle at the front of Konoka's store - Mahora Fortune and Onmyoudo - Andrea gives a low whistle at the very Japanese decor as she struts in the store, activating her phone to make a network video before being briefly distracted and calling out to a clerk at the store ]

Heeeelllloooo? Anybody home? Konoka, you alive?

[ She looks around for a second, turning her attention back on her phone ]

Hey network, gonna make this quick. I'm on the lookout for people who use magic, and I'm offerin' to train with you sometime. I'm a frequent patron at the Holodeck in Nova, and I need to expand my skills and get familiarized with magic some more. Since that's pretty much everywhere in this place, gotta know how to deal with it. In exchange, I can teach you what I know. Modern infantry tactics, close-quarters combat, use of firearms. Let's talk, y'all.

[ Konoka had literally just stepped back in and was checking on a couple of things in the back before Andy's voice called out. ]

Just a minute!

[ She decided to do one last check before she lost focus, and it was then that Konoka walked back out to the counter. The healer-deputy looked out, slightly surprised that it was Andy who called her. ]

Hey! Oh... I forgot you had a job out here. What do you need?

Now now, I don't need anything to visit my buddy!

[ She cheerfully responds with a grin, tapping Konoka on the shoulder with a light amount of strength, yet her hands feel like they're made of metal ]

But figured I can check out the goods ya got. Been really curious about magic even more now, so I thought it won't hurt to see if I can learn it or use some magic trinkets to help give my combat capacity a boost, ya know?

[ She might not (yet) be a paying customer, but she sure likes Andrea's attitude. Konoka just gives a good-natured giggle until Andrea taps her on the shoulder. Feeling strong steel under her glove is a bit of a surprise. ]

Whoa, you're wearing armor under there? I didn't know they managed to make it that thin already!

[ She needed to get back on task though. ]

But anyway! I've got a number of ofuda you can use like ammo for some offensive spells.Fire blast, ice shards... things like that. A single one is usually pretty simple, but combine two or three and the effect multiplies.

Armor?

[ Andy asks, putting her hands back on those wide hips as she casually moves on along with the subject ]

Sweeeet~ Those would be pretty useful to have! Where do you keep 'em? How is it used?

Well, the ofuda are around this part of the store.

[ She pointed to the shelves where she stored the basic paper charms. ]

There's a rulebook that shows you how to draw the kanji you'll need to use different spells, and precautions you'll need for each. Of course, there are a few I've already drawn, but those'll cost you extra.

You use them largely by sticking them on something solid and saying the keywords. More adept mages can straight up activate them with telekinesis, but umm... that takes a lot of practice.

[ Rulebook, kanji, precautions... and even keywords. Andy hums and pouts as she leans forward to inspect the ofuda on display ]

That's cool and all, but do you have anything even simpler than that? I just want something I could just stick on my gun or my armor without the extra stuff like saying stuff out loud. Stealth is pretty important in how I fight.

[ Not really, she tends to wreck entire places when she fights ]

Ah, most of the simple stuff is already constructed protection spells, or stuff I write the kanji for.

[ Konoka noted, looking slightly apologetic. ]

Enhancing armor is pretty easy, I have a guy who stops by all the time to buy stuff that stops certain magic. [ She's thankful that Ted provides her a lot of business despite dissing magic so much. ] However, offensive magic is... a little trickier. At least on the 'cast it without saying anything'. It needs some kind of trigger that you won't accidentally set it off before it's ready.

Yeeeah, I get that, but are there other ways to trigger it? Like maybe saying the words in your head? Saying words only take seconds, sure, but even split seconds count for a lot in an actual fight. Don't wanna have to give myself more disadvantages.

[ Andy strokes her chin in thought ]

The armor protection ones works like that too?

Oh! The armor stuff works just by slapping it on a solid enough surface. The 'trigger' is when it's applied to that surface. Unlike an offensive magic burst, it won't hurt the user so it's alright to have it immediately activate once it sticks to a surface.

I wonder if I could make it work by just adding in a timed delay...?

Oh, sweet! I like that one. Might get a lot of those for my clothes, and even get one for my motorcycle if it works on vehicles too.

[ Andrea taps the air with her finger, stepping to the side get a better look at the other items on display ]

What sort of protection spells for armor do ya have specifically? Shields? Elemental properties? My suit's got an energy shielding system on it already, but I ain't 'bout say no to an extra bonus!

Shields, mostly. Repel certain kinds of magic or supernatural creatures. I've been working on elemental resistance but it's hard to tune anything outside wind and water.

[ On the other side of the store, Andrea might find more... designer style things. Wooden ofuda meant more for home decoration, charms for good luck, and even a display of a cute doll version of Konoka herself. ]

I like those. Are they a one-time thing or can one ofuda be used for more than that?

[ She asks, though seemingly distracted by the doll version of Konoka that she takes from the shelf. She observes it curiously, wondering what sort of magic is imbued into the doll. She hopes it's not like voodoo, because that stuff is scary. She looks at Konoka with a raised brow and pointing at the doll. ]

Do I wanna know what this one does?

[ Dolls. She just remembered what happened in Everglade and the doll she come to adore. She even named her stalker doll Jessie ]

[ The doll doesn't actually react for a moment, not until Konoka notices it. It then swivels its head to look at her...

...and disappears into an ofuda tag, just like her other spells. Depending on Andy's reaction, Konoka giggles. ]

As far as I've tested, you can only use it for one thing, but it last a while. As in, you can 'reuse' an ofuda for a task, but you can't 'repurpose' it. This is usually why protection charms can be used in cute designs and last a very long time.

[ Konoka pulls out another ofuda, and she tosses it into the air, which then turns into one of those cute mini-Konoka dolls. ]

Oh, you can make cute doll versions of yourself to spy on things. Very useful for patrols!

[He wonders, briefly, if it's okay to talk openly about using magic. Is that something normal people could do, too? Would it give away too much about him? But on the other hand, he shouldn't stop learning new things either - he was pretty lethal with a bow and arrow already, but close-quarters was an area he could definitely use some improvement in.]

I don't know a lot of magic, but... I can do a little. I'm pretty good with what I do know, too.

Yeah? Something is better than nothin'. So what sort of magic can you do?

[ Andrea stops and waits by the counter of Konoka's shop to look at the camera, seeing that she's talking to someone much younger than herself. She quirks a brow and hums. A bit of instinct kicks in and made her hesitant in teaching someone this young on how to use guns and the like ]

[He doesn't seem to notice that she acknowledges him as a kid; he just thinks she's curious about magic!]

Well, my bow's enchanted! I can make it switch between shooting arrows with light magic or electric magic.

[A bow is basically one step below a gun as it is. C'mon. Let the kid shoot.]

I can also do some summoning, but I have to take a little break in between each one.

[ Andrea's brows quirk up as she hears about his bow's capabilities and the mention of summoning. She nods, humming in thought and curious to really see that in action. ]

Oho, neat! Bows are great weapons. There's guns in my world can do something like what you magic can, shame I don't have any of that kind of gun to show you. I have one with me, but it's different.

[ Andrea waggles her eyebrows, taking out her handgun to show Atreus what a gun is. ]

I can totally teach you how to use one, it's like a bow but more awesome. But how's that summoning work exactly, and what sort of things can you call?

[He squints at the sight of the handgun. That looks... weird? He can't quite figure out how it's supposed to be dangerous, but he's curious for sure.]

I think my bow is pretty awesome.

[Someone sounds defensive...]

Well, I can summon the spirits of wolves, crows, boars, a stag... one cranky squirrel... I concentrate and fire an arrow, and the spirits spring out of it.

[ Andy is amused at how proud Atreus sounded of his bow, reminding her of how she is with her knives sometimes. Andrea looks visibly impressed with the idea of summoning animal spirits as they're fired from a bow, especially a stag. ]

That is cool. I want to learn how to do that and summon my own cranky squirrel. That would be the best thing to use against someone with a big ego, like hah! You got your ass kicked by a squirrel!

[ Andy chuckles, putting her weapon away ]

Where you at right now, kid? If you're free, I can get you started on the basics.

[When Andy's business with Konoka is concluded, she'll find a rather large dark haired beauty in ebon armor admiring her motorcycle, a large axe casually resting on her shoulder.]

[ After saying goodbye to Konoka and with a small bag of trinkets, Andrea makes sure to keep her glasses snug on her head when her eyes spot Camilla who eyes her vehicle curiously. It's Fayren, so she's expecting this kind of attention. She'll be the same if some alien in her world parks their saucer on the street. ]

Yo. Like what you see?

[ Andrea jokes, putting both hands on her hips as she smiles at Camilla. Andrea notices the woman's strength, and is mildly impressed at it. She once lifted a similar axe like it's made of air, with Leo to witness it ]

[As soon as she hears the voice, Camilla straightens and takes a step back, offering a small bow as apology to Andy.]

I apologize. I've not had the chance to see vehicles like this up close. It looks magnificent, shining like a wyvern's scales.

[There's a soft bit of nostalgia in her voice as she talks.]

[ Andy waves her hand at Camilla's apology, shaking her head to say there's nothing to apologize for. She walks toward her bike, putting her trinkets on the bag hanging on the side of the motorcycle. ]

Wyvern? Oh man, I'd pay to see one of those in person. Been working in the forests here but haven't had a chance to go to the mountains yet.

[ She laughs, tapping her motorcycle with pride like one would a pet ]

You must not get out of Fayren much, huh? While this baby is one of a kind, motor vehicles are common in the other cities.

[ She pauses, extending her arm and offering her free hand in greeting ]

Andrea, by the way. But you can call me Andy.

[Camilla relaxes a bit after being assured she hadn't offended. She places her axe on the ground, leaning on the handle almost as if it were a cane.]

Perhaps you could join me as I go into the mountains some time to attempt to tame a mount if you've never seen a wyvern before.

[Camilla turns her attention back to the motorcycle with curiosity gleaming in her visible eye.]

Indeed. My position as a combat instructor for the Royal Guard keeps me rather busy. These sorts of contraptions are fascinating to me.

[Camilla takes her hand with unexpected daintiness considering the gauntlet she wore.]

A pleasure miss Andy, I am Camilla.

Camilla. Nice to meet ya!

[ Andrea shakes Camilla's hand with a gentle firmness, smiling broader as she lets go. ]

That would be one cool trip to have! I'm so in, just lemme know when you're ready to roll. I could probably ask my buddy Gale for some cash to rent some camping gear too.

[ Andy shrugs as she finishes her thoughts out loud, steering the topic back to the motorcycle ]

You goin' anywhere? Figured since we're here and all, I could give you a ride. Make the locals jealous, haha!

I would be glad to have you along. I'm confident in my ability to tame a wyvern but, it's never bad to have someone along just in case.

[She shakes her head a bit, hefting her axe onto her shoulder.]

I appreciate the offer but I'm supposed to be on patrol actually.
