It's absolutely no trouble, Augustine. It's all for the joy of charity, isn't it?
[That's how Eliot is justifying his gambling, anyway! It would be so naughty to admit that he actually enjoys it.
He also can't imagine Augustine actually losing. Not his father! Eliot's imagined image of Augustine is too amazing to lose, unless it's on purpose.]
