just vampire things ( closed )

Who: Alucard and Soma
What: Needing to find things out for himself, a certain dhampir returns from the dream docks and is feeling things.
Where: Cloak and Dagger
When: After the masquerade
Notes: There will be spoilers for season 2 of Castlevania within.

[ It's at some point during the early evening that the dhampir finds himself outside the Cloak and Dagger; he's beginning to see this shop a little more frequently in an unexpected sort of way. For a moment, he stands there, wondering if this is wise considering what he has learned... what he has seen and the ways in which it grips so tightly at a heart that is broken for various reasons. Why does he find himself coming here? Why does he find himself searching out Soma like this? While the dhampir lacks what others would consider to be friends within his life, he knows so little of the other within the shop aside from what he's been told and yet... who else is there really for him to go to concerning this? Who else could... perhaps understand?

He lingers for only a moment longer before he finally steps inside the shop and he stands there, gently allowing the door to fall shut behind him and strands of blond to fall around his face. There is a lack of confidence within the dhampir, fingers tightly clutching at the hilt of his blade at his side, but not to restrain himself from lashing out. It's more to keep himself grounded, to not slip away into something akin to heartbreak. ]

[Soma is, for once, not wearing his coat. Still has on the turtleneck and jeans, though. He has his back to the door when Alucard enters, and appears to be arranging things on a shelf out on the floor. He stops when he hears the door close, but doesn't turn around - letting his other senses tell him what they will about the dhampir. He's no empath, but with the chaotic mess this has made of Alucard's aura, it would take a coma to prevent him from sensing the man's distress.

Only two things he knows of could have caused such a change in him. Given that one of them would have him still at the castle, nailed to his mother's side... well. It's not a great leap of logic to figure out the dream docks have claimed another victim.]

What troubles you, Adrian? [He didn't even turn around, instead reaching into the box at his side to pick up another handful of items. Figurines, from the look of them - Adrian might even recognize some of them. They're manufactured relics, of the sort he will collect sometime in the future. Soma's new employees have been busy.]

[A visible wince. Yeah, he kind of figured that was coming.] Then you know he was lucid at the very end, however briefly... and you are also aware of his parting 'gift' to humanity.

[He's referring to the curse, of course. The one Dracula's soul levied even as his heart broke.]

He was proud of you, you know. At the end. That you had the courage to do the necessary thing, no matter how much it hurt. [Soma sighs, and finally turns to face the dhampir.] Unfortunately by that point... his soul was no longer entirely his own. Do you know the origin of your father's curse? Not the one he placed on humanity... but the one he himself was victim of?

[Another sigh. Vlad, why didn't you tell your family anything?] I think, perhaps, this story requires a change of scenery. And several drinks. There's a bar near here. It's early yet for their normal clientele, but they should be open. Or, if you prefer, I can play bartender here. Less... noise, that way.

[Soma nods, and makes his way behind the counter. Two glasses, same as last time, and a bottle of something clear.]

This is a liquor called Everclear. It's very nearly pure alcohol - it might be the only thing I've found that can get around our natural resistances, short of absinthe. [He pours two glasses that, for a human, would probably represent a fatal dose. Maybe enough to get them tipsy.]

Does the name Mathias Cronqvist mean anything to you? Or Walter Bernhard?

[Soma nods, and begins to tell the story of how Mathias Cronqvist sold his humanity to become a weapon against God... and how he ensured that he would never be subject to that God's whims again. How he died, and was reborn... as Vlad Tepes Dracula.]

Your father, as himself... loved you and your mother very much. But as the weapon he was destined to become, there was no room in his heart for that emotion. The death of your mother was the catalyst the curse needed to fully harden his heart... and his curse was enough to ensure that his soul, his memories and emotions, would be the ones to continue on through the ages.

No. That... isn't really how it works. The curse seeks out people with very specific abilities - ones which you do not possess. [These will have to be left vague, for now, since season 3 may well turn everything we think we know on its head.] They seem to crop up about once a century, perhaps a handful at a time.

I was one of four, born in my time, who had those traits. It's possible that I inherited them from my ancestors - I can't confirm, but what I remember of your father's generals suggests one of my ancestors was Hector, who was himself a candidate for his resurrection.

One of your father's pet forgemasters. That may give you some idea of the abilities his legacy seeks out.

[Ah, now this is new information to him. Stories from when Dracula was out of circulation.]

Don't get attached to it. What Hector does to it when he transmutes your father's curse is... well. You'll understand in about three years.
