[Welp, there sure are a lot of interesting rumors filtering through public conversation. It would be easy to let them run their course and watch everything spiral into chaos, but alas. He likes a whole one (1) of the affected candidates.]

Hm~! We've sure got a lot of exciting candidates for Guardian, or whatever it is, this season! Accepting bribes sounds pretty normal, and who isn't in debt with the shopping channel, so you two have my vote! And I for one think that a ruler in Everglade without powers would be pretty neat.

What about everyone else? You heard any interesting rumors lately? I'd love to know. Voting is super important and all~. Oh, and if any killjoy candidates want to deny the rumors... I guess that's fine too. Just make it fun.

Except the Santa Claus killer. That's just bad. No vote for you.

Real talk, I don't speak up as much as I read, watch, and listen.

I don't know what all Sutcliffe got up to, and most everyone seems to think the Everglade can rot and burn. But I'm assuming you're too smart to be quite so open as to say "hey let's legalize torture." So what exactly, are your plans with it?

[Holds a hand up to add some clarity.] My world did allow for torturing criminals. I spend half of my time in my last base trying not to let my own men set criminals on fire to get information out of them. And my boss is a murderous fuckwit who'd take my head over just the rumor running around. Good enough for him. So I get it. I've seen more of the dark side of justice than the kids here.

But I hope you have a better plan in mind than to just personally enrich yourself no matter what happens to the others. Otherwise we're going to be at greater odds than just this.

[Oh, so he paid attention to that, did he? Interesting.

Any of her notions of fucking around has died down for the time being and she's just leaning back against her chair and ignoring something moving in the background. It's one of her pokemon, really, so not big deal.]

Love doesn't do shit to sustain someone like me, tried that a long time ago and it almost drove myself and my brother insane. I'll be frank with you here, the kind I am now feed on emotions in general, some find certain emotions stronger than others. In my case and my brother's, suffering was the strongest to us. It's not necessary as other emotions work, but it's what sustained us the longest.

[There's a small wave of her hand, eh.]

I was asked to do what I did, but back home I did about the same. But it was due to the greed of people who wished to seek treasures or some other grand gesture that was complete and utter bullshit. Those that had a good reason or a tough fortitude got what they wanted, those that didn't generally... ending up giving up and leaving after we'd taken what we could from them for whatever time they were there. Some died, but that was due to stupidity on their part with the challenges, we never outright killed anyone, not our style. You don't have to kill someone to get them to suffer, after all. And, I'll have you know, that man in that video didn't die by my hand, I don't do that.

As for Everglade itself? I want it to be more open than it currently is, some of the regulations set in place are bullshit as far as I'm concerned. Rules on necromancy, rules on hunting, that sort of thing. There's five cities for humans to have, so I think it's fair enough to let those non-humans here live their lives as they need to and if someone gets killed due to being too stupid to leave... then that's on them, they knew what they signed up for with Everglade.

Merely... I want to be able to keep an eye on things and I just can't trust those against me or those that have been in charge this last previous session, you know? I want this to be a legitimate safe haven for non-humans and for humans to get their noses out of it. I've seen it both as this creature and as an elf when I was alive, the damage that humans do due to their own misguided human-centric ways.

That's it, really. Nothing hidden, nothing that's just to benefit me, I've been feeding just fine in these times.

[Solemn nod.] There's a lot worse than death.

[Lights up a fresh pair of cigars in thought.] Are the humans without pendants able to leave? I was under the impression that they were trapped within the barriers, just as people in the archways are trapped in their worlds.

[And possibly illusionary. Hah.]

[And a quiet noise.]
I'm not considered a human in my world -- [Raises a hand again.] Not that I'm a fishman like Namur or Jinbei. I'm a monster by my own words and choices, by my strength and power making me less mortal, not by my species or race. The marines don't discriminate -- in theory. But I've seen that theory pushed to breaking point. I don't like the idea of four of the cities being for humans, and one city being for everyone else. It's stupid. Besides, Fayren might have a dragon as a guardian. Fishman Island in my world... I don't know enough of the politics to say for sure. How much is propaganda and lies, what is true. But I know the islands that didn't join the World Government were all ripe for ruin by -- warlords, criminals, and slavers. Fishman Island has extra circumstances, in that it's location is the only way for pirates to get through the second half of a tract of ocean, into the New World, it's called. It's a headache. But for here, I don't think any one city isolating itself is good for anyone. Not the city, the residents, or the other four.

I've already been through death, twice. [That's the most casual tone on the face of the planet about it.]

Those people aren't really real, not like how were are. I'm sure you know that. If they were then they could move cities just like we can. [A little bit of research never hurt anyone and she's heard that argument time and time again.]

[The last part has her remaining quiet, merely watching the screen as if something else is going to happen. But she's finally speaking after a moment or two.]

I didn't say it was going to completely shut us off from everyone else. But what other city here can someone like a vampire or werewolf hunt other than Everglade? Whether it's state or not, there's a bias for that sort of thing and it's something that should be fixed. This alternative methods of eating is bullshit and nowhere near as useful as the real thing, I've tried, in my case.

If the other cities won't let them hunt, then they should at least be allowed to do so here and that's the point, to allow that freedom. If other cities want to lax those restrictions to allow them to, then I'm all for it, but you know as well as I do that that's not about to happen.

It did seem a bit surreal, particularly with the bounty system, but that won't stop others from treating them like they are.

Hunting is only a means to an end, Lydia. Or do you prefer a different name?

In any event, it shouldn't be the primary goal. I'm The White Hunter in my world. I spent the last four years here trying to get used to the idea of not hunting pirates 24/7. I've met vampires who've adapted, I'm sure the others can as well. Though in your case....

I don't suppose hospitals want you lurking around feasting, or is it just that it's less fun for you that way?

Lydia is, and has always been, my name. I've never said any different. [One of the small things she kept after the change, but she's not about to say that right now.]

My other point was that it doesn't need or should be trusted into other hands that would soon change the way things run to be more restricted than they already are. And, Remilia, for that matter, shouldn't be trusted with her ties to that absolute prick, Dracula.

[And she's merely shrugging.]

Even I, as a monster like this, have some tact and standards. They may not be able to see what it is I take, but it doesn't feel right.

[ACTUALLY LAUGHS AT THAT SORRY!]

I'm surprised then that you'd want all of the non-humans to use Everglade then.

There's been some radical fishmen and revolutionaries, both on my world, and others I've read about that want nothing more than to force the non-humans or outcasts to take over pieces of the mainstream world, almost specifically because without it, other than risking isolation and stagnation, there's also a lot of infighting. Hell, it's the tried and true tactics of marines and world government in my world as well. Isolate, spark infighting, and let the pirates destory themselves.

It's why I don't want to see the five cities so split up. It seems too strategic from an outside faction.

Not the position I was taking, either. I didn't say every non-human should be living here, the point is that they should feel safe if they decide to. Some may be able to "adapt", but there's others that don't feel they should have to or can't as in the case of those like me. As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one of my kind here right now, but the point still stands.

[She's huffing softly, there's something about this that is beginning to rub her the wrong way.]

Politics was never my forte, I guess, so I suppose if I lose this time I'll "stay in my lane", as it were.

Nothing wrong with running. It's a damn sight more civilized than what I'm used to.

The means for deciding who became my boss was a contest of wills to see who could convert more of a deserted island into magma or ice. The loser lost an arm and a leg and had to drop out of the marines entirely.

I think even just running makes people consider options or points they wouldn't have otherwise.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'd much rather this than that sort of thing. There were still some places back home that were like that, but they were more... barbaric than others. But they were few and far between at the time as most races were above that sort of thing.

Something about losing limbs or life or a good genetic donor sort of changed that for most, I'd think. Particularly those that weren't high in numbers to begin with.
