You know, I hate sounding like a broken record but...
[Nikola sighs as he pulls his phone further away to show off an apartment decorated for a holiday he knows nothing about. All around his kitchen table are books that range from children's Christmas books to books discussing Christmas to even the King Jame's bible which he found somewhere. He's been trying to do a little research and really, he's just gotten himself more confused.]
What I don't understand is why is there a holiday celebrating some baby's birth in the desert that somehow translates to the fact that for one night some jolly fat man in a red suit is allowed to break into people's homes through their fireplace and leave questionable presents for those that live in the home.
Or why people try to appease this man with milk and cookies and what makes it okay for him to determine what child is nice or naughty. Isn't something like that supposed to be the parent's job? Or why this holiday requires lights and a dead tree covered in trinkets.
[...There is a LOT Nikola doesn't understand about this. ]
Perhaps I'm missing something here, but, I really could use a civilized explanation..
[He pauses for a moment.]
And Rose, unless you're being serious, please don't try and tell me one of your ridiculous holiday tales about candy and monsters and one of my coworkers.

Jenny! She's our daughter, in as much as a child created from the DNA of one person can be! Happened during one of the trips "Fluffy," our 10th face, went on! Landed on a planet where a human exploration ship had tried to start a new colony, but ended up fighting with the the other race on the planet, the Hath. Their replicators took a sample of our skin without askin', not very nice thing to do, mind, then scrambled the DNA an' recombined it in a different configuration t'make her! Pop, out comes a brand new baby Time Lord, only fully grown! An' with all of the trainin' and history of a soldier already baked in.
[Her nose curls just the smallest bit at that, but it passes quickly.]
She doesn't fight, though. We convinced 'er not to. [And then she died...she looks rather uncomfortable, now, and trails off before chirping back into talking with a bit of a tone that isn't all that unlike how the 10th would have done.] Aaaaaaand then we got separated. Until we all ended up here. Three regenerations later, for me.
Look, it's a bit more complicated then that, an' I'd feel more comfortable just introducing you to her an' explainin' it in person.
[...Though it also reminds her that...he doesn't yet know why Jenny is such a big deal for them, lineage aside. Oof. Can one of the others please explain that to him? Does she have to be the one to bring it up? But then the others probably wouldn't, or would be carrying a very heavy amount of baggage into the conversation that she'd just begun to recover from.
Feelings are hard, ok.
She throws her happy face back up and forces herself not to think about that for right now. All in due time.] Look, just suffice it to say for now that she's ours, an' she's wonderful, an' I plan on keepin' 'er once we get out of this place. Sorry, other Doctors, I'm the eldest, I get to claim keepsies! You'll all get her, too, the long way 'round, but Mummy's word is law! HAH!
I know, right? He didn't even tell me about her, so that was a bit of a cold shock at first for me too. But she's really very sweet.
Re: [Video]
...The more I learn about any of you, the more I question everything.

[Don't mind his snooping. Or do, if you want.]
Re: [Video]
[...]
Everything to be confusing. The Professor explained it to me at one point but, of course I still have questions as any inquisitive mind would.
And yes, Nikola. Nikola Giovanni, the current Wine Master for Torchwood.
Re: [Video]
[He draws out the word in a way that sounds both thoughtful and a bit sheepish.]
Most do, I'm afraid. It's one reason why I don't normally tell people about the whole... multiple faces thing unless I happen to regenerate in front of them.
I don't mind attempting to explain it myself, or answer any other questions you might happen to have, but I don't know if my answers would be any more satisfactory to you.
You've already explained quite a lot, to start with.
...a soldier, really. I assume that's how they were able to continue fighting with dwindling numbers, how fascinating... an ingenious way to get around the issue of cloning people, though I can't say I approve of the application.
[He snorts.]
No argument from me, I couldn't take her with me even if I wished to.
Yes, well, cliff notes for a start. Just to give you the basics. [Although now the thought occurred to her that Jenny may not realize that he comes from a time before the war and won't think to not mention it. Maybe best to talk to her, first.]
It was fairly effective, although they kept burnin' through generations every couple of hours, so by the time we got to 'em, their entire culture had moved so fast that to them, a week was ancient history! [She looks both amazed and infuriated by this. All those lives, all that pain, in only a week. And it had gotten them entangled in it in possibly the worst way imaginable.] Because forbid the human race take somethin' as amazin' as that an' do somethin' equally amazin' with it!
[Ok, no, no, it's fine, she's fine, everything is f i n e. Humans are lovely little creatures, they really are, but sometimes, they're just. So. Stubborn.
She seems to realize that there's more to it then he's saying, though she also understands that it's probably just a lot to process. It had taken them a good bit to process it and accept it when they had lived it. She gave him a sympathetic smile.]
You'll warm up to 'er, I promise. Sharp as a tack an' brilliant, just like her parent. [Ok, now she's just being smug.]
[He is hardly going to create some kind of paradox just because they have a kid now.]
As for the society that created her... I expect I know what probably happened to them, so I'm glad we found them, whichever one of us did it.
[He's assuming they were able to stop these people with as little bloodshed as possible, or at least he's hoping that's what they did.]
