II - Wrath Carnival

Warnings: Possible Deaths. Temporary Mind Control. Feels. Blood. Knives. Fire. Dragons. CLOWNS. BEARDED LADIES. DANGEROUS ANIMALS.

One morning, when all the citizens of Fayren wake up, they will be greeted with cheerful circus music. On the streets was a parade of clowns, entertainers, acrobats, muscle men, bearded ladies, exotic animals and other circus freaks. With them came a train of balloons, candies and party treats. It was the most obnoxiously colourful and cheerful display anyone can find.

All of them had a smile plastered on their faces. Each one was very friendly and gave everyone a flyer to attend the circus. For one week only, they shall entertain all the people of Fayren and the other cities connected to it. They even had a huge bear wearing a tutu and giving everyone invites. One show, every evening.

Then, there was the Circus Master. Just his very presence and tone would bring cheer to everyone. He was tall, dashing and handsome. His voice made everyone who heard it want to attend the circus.

In the outskirts of the city was a huge tent. It had all the bright colours: red, pink, aquamarine, purple, green, yellow, tangerine and ivory. It was large enough to host over a hundred people.

Beside the tent was a number of carriages and helpers. All seemingly exhausted from setting up the tent in just one evening. There were carnival booths as well, which offered both games and fun treats. It was the most inviting and delightful scene in all five cities.

Honestly Azula was just happy she had her original height and memory back. It was horrible thinking that she wasn't loved by anyone. Moreover, it was horrible to think that only Zuko had truly cared for her. Then again, it was refreshing. Azula had almost forgotten how it felt like back when she felt like all of them were family and nothing more. Sure they were royalty, but there was no tension because they were not assured to get the position of Fire Lord. Their uncle was highly competent back then, and Lu Ten was still alive. The most complicated question Azula had to ever deal with as a child was how to get Zuko to play with her and how they can get an extra share of fruit tart.

'What happened to us?', she wondered once more as she pondered the same question the past few nights.

She noticed the scar, and for a brief moment, Azula realized everything was back to normal. She was starting to wonder if that was such a good thing. "You sleepy head! How long do you plan to sleep?

Probably not a good thing. Not a good thing at all. Now they were back to being enemies, even though his sister didn't know it. He was back to lying to her, to not telling her that he'd defected to the Avatar's side and was teaching the boy how to properly firebend — not that he's done much of that lately. It's been months since he was at the Western Air Temple. If time's still moving back home without him instead of standing still like people insist that it is, the Avatar's likely forgotten all about him or dismissed him as a lost cause. Probably assumed that he just switched sides again and went running back to father dearest.

Instead of answering her, he lifted his arm up enough to peer at her and asked, "Why do you want me up?"

Now if only Azula knew he was lying. In fact, Lucy was right. Somehow, being in this world was not so bad. Azula was getting along fine with Zuko back in their world, but that's because he's shown loyalty to the crown. She wasn't a fool to believe that he will downright give her his birthright. But still, they had an amicable relationship. She's still jealous that Mother loved him and only him, but now, it was starting to matter less. Slowly, Azula was realizing what it meant to be family in its real sense. That nonsense they were saying about watching out for each other, Azula was actually doing it now. Zuko made her realize that he was watching out for her, and actually cared for her safety and well-being. She on the other hand didn't want anything bad to happen to him - including bad relationship choices.

Perhaps, that's what it means to be siblings. Maybe.

She caught his arm easily and gave a proud smile. "You're really out of it, aren't you?", she said raising a brow. "We need to go to the Carnival of course!"

"I'm really tired," he replied, yanking his arm from her grasp and rolling over onto his stomach. Tired was more like cranky. "Go to the carnival by yourself."

Zuko grabbed a pillow and hauled it over his head like an ostrich-horse that was hiding its head in a hole. If she couldn't see his face, maybe she'd go away and let him wallow in his conflicted misery.
