Dream A Little Dream...
Who: Chloe Decker
What: Arrival
When: Today
Where: The Dream Bay
Warnings:
Notes:
There are things in this world that shouldn't be possible. Things that would unravel the fabric of reality like a snag in a favourite sweater, so when Chloe Decker opened her eyes, she's pretty damn sure this is exactly what's happened. She'd seen Lucifer's face and--
And what?
Everything he'd said was true. He was actually The Devil, with capitals and everything. Yeah. She was going to just lay her for awhile and try to shake this grogginess, though she wasn't sure exactly what the cause was yet. A few deep breaths, maybe. Quiet reflection, compartmentalising, shoving her shock into a metaphorical basement. That was the best idea for now because this sure as hell isn't Los Angeles. It doesn't smell or feel right, nevermind where she is at the moment. Further investigation finds the pamphlet, the money, the phone, the necklace. Maybe it's the whole Devil thing but Chloe is oddly calm about waking up somewhere weird. Understatement of the century, maybe, but whatever. Someone has to deal with crazy in a responsible manner.
That falls to her like it always has.
So she gets up, gets out, listens to the hologram, pockets whatever she can, and immediately takes another moment to lean into the nearest solid object. It's as solid as anything else she'd touched. Her voice echoed as she snapped at herself.
"Get a grip, Decker."
She looked down at her pendant and grimaced before pulling out her phone and examining her instructions. She had her badge, her gun, her ID, but this place? This wasn't Heaven or Hell. This was some next level Narnia bullshit and she's pretty sure that's what Lopez would be saying about now, only Chloe was alone. She pulled her leather jacket around her a little tighter like it was her armor.
"Screw this," she murmured, firing off a text before striding out into the daylight of Genessia City.
It simply read:
LAPD. DECKER.

What year was it on Earth last for you?
I know that's a weird question, but it's different for everyone who gets here.
Action
[She answers without hesitation because right now, despite everything, it's too weird. Just as weird as the last few moments she remembers. She takes a sip of coffee and grimaces but it's hot and right now, it reminds her this is real.]
You?
Action
Who's President?
[Don't tell him, he won't believe you.]
Action
...yeah, no.
You really don't want to know.
Action
[Also probably meant it wasn't Hillary Clinton then, because first female president was kind of a thing he wanted to know. ALAS.]
Well. Welcome to Genessia. It just gets weirder from here. Not always bad though. I got to meet the real Bugs Bunny and get his autograph.
[HE'S SERIOUS.] And all the stuff about aliens and magic is real. Fayren has dragons and unicorns and I forget what else. And Everglade is where I work, it's more the zombie and vampires and werewolf monsters kind. Nova is super futuristic and sci-fi all Star Wars and robots and lasers.
Action
[She takes a moment to pinch the bridge of her nose and then takes a sharp swallow of coffee.]
What a mess.
Action
It's not all bad though. The other people are mostly... surprisingly not murderous. Still getting used to that.
Action
[Chloe lets out a sigh.]
I need to work.
Action
Just not LA levels. Or even as much as other worlds. My partner's from a world with a lot of supernatural crime, and there's still a lot here, more than the office can handle, so they outsource some of it to bounty hunters, just the catching, but more than just you know. Back home. But overall, it's less murders, more regular stuff. For better or worse. Attleton still has a problem with mafia I'm told, but they have the Guardians working on that rather than official police. Kind of combining the bounty hunter system there.
Action
[Her brows knit as she knocks back a little more coffee, still tense. At least the grogginess was gone, now.]
Well, I'll have to see about filling out whatever paperwork as quickly as possible. Even if I'm going to be less active than I might like, at least I'll have something to throw myself into so I don't completely go insane.
[She pauses for a good long while before finishing her cup.]
Supernatural crime? Heh.
[Her fingers start to shake just a little and she covers it up by finding a trash can. Button it up, Decker. You only work with The Devil. It's good, it's fine, it's better than fine. He's never lied. Not once. He's a fantastic partner, he's Good, capital G. He's--
By the time she turns back around, she's good. Excellent. Completely in control of everything.]
Not as much of a stretch for me to believe, lately.
Action
[Pinches the bridge between his eyes.] I don't wanna know. Before coming here I didn't believe in any of it. God, psychics, aliens, all of it. I spent last Halloween as a demon, and met a skeletal lich, and a kid that travels between worlds to fight alongside Disney characters. Now I'm just sort of... not getting used to it, but accepting it??? I guess.
Action
[Her eyes found his and her smile's a little tight.]
Let me in on your coping skills? I'm pretty sure I'm going to be needing something sooner than later.
Re: Action
[A small grin right back. WHAT IS HIS COPING SKILL? DOES HE HAVE ONE?]
[He just holds up a hand.] Only freaking out on the inside. Bit like any homicide case when you have someone in the bin with you and you know he did it, and you can prove it, but you want him to turn on everyone else.
[His other solution has been giving in and letting himself date the hot succubus cop he stole as his partner and that's not something he's going to recommend, really.] But you can call me for drinks whenever it gets too much. It helps to have people who aren't entirely out of the realm of familiarity. Even though my partner's from another world, and used to supernatural stuff, she's still a cop. Covers the room in pinboards and clues. It's adorable.
Action
[Okay. Alcohol is always a thing. Familiar people. Check. Crime solving.]
Drinks and cops. I might have to take you up on that offer, then.
Action
Got any family back home you'll be missing?
Action
My daughter, Trixie.
[Yeah, that was probably too soon to crack open that can. Cop face on, mom face freaking out on the inside.]
How does...that work outside all of this? Actually...
[She gestures, grimacing, and lets out a long, slow breath.]
This sounds like a park bench kind of conversation. Know any good ones? It's been one of those weeks.
Action
[He gestures to the park.] Shouldn't be crowded in all this snow. Make sure you bundle up if you're not use to it.
My partner's world is in kind of post-nuclear meltdown so she thought I was completely making up polar ice caps and snow. [Small grin!] She hates it worse than cats and water.
My own daughter's 17. Just graduated. Small mercy I got to see it before coming here. Missed my open heart surgery though, for better or for worse.
Time doesn't move there, but people from the future, and even your own future, can still come here. Make sense? You can say no. In fact, I'll have to give you a hard look if you say yes.
Action
[Chloe shrugs when it comes to the winter weather. It's better than not talking shop in a police station, right? But she's already walking and listening to him. He gets a soft holy shit about the surgery and a long look that says how are you even on duty. Honestly, though, she'd be the same. Look at her even now! Next time she's here, she's swiping forms and joining up.]
It doesn't have to make sense at this point. What matters is that my daughter will be fine and if time is basically frozen, it means I'm not missed. That's.
[She grimaces.]
Tolerable.
Action
My partner insisted on saving a room for her, just in case. It's been 6 months, but... [Shrugs.] Like you said, tolerable.
[He's fiiiiiine. His partner tackles him and doesn't let him do anything that would make his heart explode or stuff :V and he's under physician care by experts who won't let him work himself to death either no matter how tempted he gets. Which: spoilers: is very.]
Re: Action
[Thank goodness for partners and doctors. In her case, partners. Hers has gone out of his way on several occasions already.]
I'll see what I come up with but I'll take note of the offer. It's definitely appreciated.
