I have not, and wouldn't but for dire desperation.

[She didn't really ask why the "would not"'s wouldn't, so he refrains, but boy is he just brimming with righteous indignation at the very idea.]

Because they're merely simulacrums of the real thing. Which means they produce the effects without the substance. Sometimes the effects are very necessary to the point of life or death. Then such an evil becomes necessary.

But for pleasure? Never. Trading the real for the unreal is a fool's bargain, and the way they prey upon the nostalgic and weak-spirited doesn't sweeten things.

"Yeah! I made a subarchway!" The voice was very cheerful. "I gave up some important memories to do it but it was worth it to have a home back for myself and my sister. I wouldn't do it for just me though. Sis needs a safe space more than me."

"Well, the way I see it, the people here and now are always more important than some memory. Besides, if you forget someone or something they'd understand that you forgot them to take care of someone else. Right?"

For example, one might need an amenity from their place of origin to maintain any semblance of a life here. Then such a place, hollow and fake though it is, becomes necessary.

If home were all that precious, the memory ought to remind all right. It's what they're for. But to pay a dear price all for a soulless replica? It's vulgar at the very least. A little insulting, too, as though a counterfeit were just as valuable and worthy as the original. The original might rankle at the unjust comparison.

I haven't opened one, but I honestly have been considering it. Though it's more for someone I know rather than for myself.

I understand that, we all have those moments.

[Though his idea is less for home and more for somewhere else.]

It's really hard to go day by day without thinking of home or the people we know from it.

I've been here a year if that helps? I still somewhat miss people from home, especially a few who was here but left.
