[Namur's voice is hoarse and he breathes harder than usual as he speaks, head propped sideways on a pillow so he can face the camera.]

Hey-

[He is interrupted by a coughing fit, followed by a few colorful words muttered weakly under his breath.]

A'ight let's try that 'gain.

Hey guys, I'm feelin' down. Thought a some shit that'll lift my sp- AHCHOO!

[He cringes. That one hurt.]

Oh, Lord a the Sea. If yer willin' t' go find some shit an' bring it back t' me, sing out an' I'll give y' a reward.

It is. 'Mazin' an' shitty all in one, dependin' on whatcha wanna talk 'bout. But I don't 'zactly know a lotta shit like history or nothin'. Didn't ever go t' school really 'til I gone t' 'nother world. Ma taught me my letters an' I like drawin' 'em but that's kinda where my uh, shit what's that bigass word 'gain? Schooler, no. Scholarship. Yeah. 'S where my scholarship 'bout shit back home ends. Sheheh!

Well, I was fortunate to learn to read and write. My hermanitos as well. Most people my age back then only knew perhaps their own name and some other rough words.

But the world has changed a lot, gracias a Dios and now more children can learn. Even though it's terrible and amazing all at once.

[she works more at his hair]

What do you like to eat? What do you do for fun?

Huh, that's a first. Most other worlds is like if y' ain't in school what the hell're y' doin' with yer life or some shit. But y' ain't gotta be able t' spell t' be smart 'nuff t' live.

[Namur coughs again, having to pull away from Imelda's grip for a bit while he curls up and convulses. But he flops back with a labored sigh.]

Well, if y' can 'magine, I eat fish. Don't know why folk takes issue with knowin' that, 'specially since I don't know a damn shark or human that don't eat fish theirselves, but there it is. 'M a filthy fisheater, snap 'em 'live, right outta the ocean, sheheheh! Ain't wastin' none a their Life that way or leavin' their dead bodies jus' layin' 'round on a counter somewhere for the microscope critters an' the worms t' start in on. An' shit, how'd y' like t' be seen by the last person what's ever gonna see y'? Livin' an' strong still dashin' 'round full a life? Or flopped out with yer mouth open starin' like a dumbass at nothin'? Shit.

[That's a lot of talking, so he has to cough again, his voice getting thinner as time goes by.]

Anyway I do all the usual shit for fun. Fightin', clubbin', pickin' up ''maids. The hell d' you do for fun's the better question.

Hmfh well, School is a blessing. When I was young, it was rare for someone poor to have any kind of education. Many of the people I knew could barely read, let alone spell their own name. But a fancy degree can only go so far without some common sense and stubbornness to back it up.

[she's not entirely surprised he ate fish alive. Well, with teeth like that, it's probably easier for him and perhaps it tastes better. who is she to know? She can even see his point somewhat, since she has smelled her fair share of spoiled fish]

Mm. Perhaps. But there are many things in a living fish that can poison a human if it's not cleaned and gutted properly. We also aren't blessed with your teeth. [though that foregoes her cooking for him in any capacity. She can hardly give him goldfish in a little bag like she's seen at pet stores.] Do you drink?

[she gives his head a little calming pet as his voice thins out and the continues on his hair with patience-- though the question makes her sigh]

Not much. I used to have a large familia to look after. A business to run. There's not much time for anything else. Here... [she shakes her head] I do what I can. Count the days. There's not much use for me.

Sure, guess that's a good way a thinkin' 'bout it. 'S somethin' for the blessed. Then there's the rest a us that's figured shit out on our own.

[He coughs.]

Really, fish is poison t' humans? Huh. None a y'all never mentioned that li'l detail, damn. What's poison 'bout 'em? The guts is the best parts! 'Less we're talkin' 'bout whales. Then y' wanna get their tongue. An' if 's winter, a mouthful or two a their fat so yer body's got shit t' burn 'gainst the cold.

[She's a hell of a lot nicer about combing his hair than Thatch is, he'll give her that. But Thatch could also be an ass on purpose, it's how you knew he cared. Namur sighs, and it turns into a brief round of coughing. Lord of the Sea, it'll be great when the universe stops punishing him for breathing.]

Sure I drink. Anythin' comes in a longneck bottle. Gotta get that shit past all my teeth, otherwise I jus' end up kinda swallowin' the whole damn cup or whatever.

What kinda use d' y' wish folk'd put y' t'?

[He's not even going to mention the BLATANT CODEPENDENCY HOLY SHIT. In part because he'd rather not fight about it. The other part is he wouldn't know a word like codependency.]

I don't know. I just know that if fish aren't prepared properly, humans can get sick and die. [she just knows what she knows. She puts the thought of the drinking away for later so that she can treat or repay him]

Put me to? Nothing. I will find my own way. Somehow. Also your hair is done. [she runs her fingers through to show there are no knots or tangles] See?

Well that 'xplains a lot. Hair feels real slick, thanks.

[Namur rolls over, propping his chin on the back of the couch.]

Jus' told me y' ain't found much use for yerself, ain't got no familiyuh t' tell y' what t' do, but y' don't want nobody else t' put y' t' work. So like. Whatcha waitin' for? Some fat li'l winged babies t' come droppin' outta the sky with a golden scroll says Sinyeruh Imelda who Totally Ain't a Sweetheart No How No Way: yer hereby assigned by Heaven or God or Whatever t' make yerself a life balancin' plates on that bit a bone where yer nose used t' be or some shit? Like, I get it. Y' been a busy woman all yer life but now y' ain't, an' y' sound real sad 'bout it. So what the hell can anybody do t' help y' find somethin' t' fill yer days? Ain't tryna stick my nose in where it ain't wanted, but shit-

[He ducks his head behind the couch so he won't hack all over her while he has a coughing fit. That's also all he has to say for the time being, so at least that kind of worked out.]

No one tells me what to do.

[she nods at the thanks and then steps away, brushing out her skirts. As he goes on, she can't help but be a little amused at his rambling, even though it's hard to understand some of what he's saying]

I appreciate the concern. [and she does] As for the answer, how am I to know? The only time I was truly happy was when I was with the people I loved and helping them-- building a life for them.

There is no place for me here. Except to try to repair the damage I have caused.

[Namur coughs into the couch, ends with a sneeze, then props his chin on the back of the ill fated furniture once again.]

Damage y' caused? Shit 'Melda, know yer a mean right hook with that boot a yers but y' don't strike me as the type t' go 'round bustin' shit up...

[she gives him a look]

Emotional damage. I suppose. [she sighs and sits somewhere, hands in her lap, looking at nothing particular] If I had been stronger, my familia would be happier. A woman is supposed to be serene in times of trouble. [and she is usually anything but. Though Coco always was. She wore her serenity like a favorite dress and everyone relaxed when they saw her. Even Imelda sometimes]

[He coughs into the back of the couch, and shakes his head.]

Owe y' somethin's all. How much'd they charge y', for real?

Enough. [she won't answer] You can repay me by getting better. Anything else is unacceptable.

[Namur slumps over on his side, laying across the couch but leaving his fist propped up on the back, showing a thumbs up. That's convincing, right?]
