Thirty-fourth Reel: keeping warm

[An image of Marco, in his blue phoenix form, pops up on the feed. Usually this isn't out of the ordinary, except that he's tied up while attached to a stick and slowly rotating over an open fire. Although it's a bit rainy outside, all this is done underneath a canopy of sorts. The fire isn't raging, rather it's made to burn slowly and evenly. It'll probably last a while.

Fortunately, Marco looks...fine? His face the usual deadpan, it's hard to tell if he's enjoying it or not. But he's not in pain, at least.

The hand turning him over and over is well manicured with a red polish. Who else would it be?]

To those of you who have helped my husband get pumpkin seeds so he could get fattened up: thank you. [The camera pans over to Grell, who had her hair in a high pony tail and wearing a simple white shirt. Her smile is as sharp as ever.] You've been most helpful~!

[Is she going to eat him? Anything is possible with these two.]

(She really isn't sure what to make of this. Maybe the bird is immune to fire? Like her?)

Is this a...tradition? If you are planning on eating him, you should pluck out his feathers.

[Deadpan squawk. It might be annoyed? It's hard to tell upside down as he is.]

Are you in need of rescue?

[Shakes his head no! It is toasty! He is happy!]

[And he wiggles his feet in happy demonstration.]

So you like fire. (She can relate!) I am fond of it too.

[A head tilt and a chirp, trying to encourage her to go on!]

I have walked through it and sacrificed my clothes to it too.

(But it was all worthwhile in her opinion.)

Nothing has felt more like home.

[Wow. That's hardcore. Not even Marco did that.]

[He'd tell her about his fire brother, but Ace is hard to hold onto so yes.]

[But he does look suitably impressed, as much as a phoenix can anyway.]

You are a beautiful bird. (She wouldn't mind adding to her dragon sons if he is looking for a mother? Just kidding.)

His meat would be extremely dry and tough. He may be a delicacy to some, but not worth the effort of eating.

Although, I do like the idea of this being tradition. [That definitely has her gears turning.]

And he is your...husband? (She has seen many odd things, but this is new.) Why eat his meat when he can use his body to please you in other ways?

Oh, I most certainly do that~! No reason to not branch out a bit.

[Stokes the fire with a few pieces of wood.]

I don't see how this does a thing for you. (Though the bird looks happy at least.)

That's the beauty of it all! You don't have to.

[She does keep track of the conversation going on between her and Marco, which she tries not to get jealous of. But Grell won't let it show. For now, or when necessary.]

Would you like to join us, dear? [Anyone who likes fire as they do must be nice company.]

I might take you up on your offer. (The fire is so very alluring and it has been awhile since she has seen one so big.)

I wonder if your hair is as hot as the flames. (Grell, she is a taken woman, so there is no reason for jealousy. Besides which, she does like the color of her hair.)

[Well, she had told Marco to find a fireplace to settle in, though this wasn't quite what she had in mind. Rip's left snickering at the sight.]

Vell, if I vould haf known you were fattening him up for zhis, I vould haf given him more seeds.

No one said to stop, dear. [Grins] It's not like more will do any harm.

I suppose not~.

Zo, has he stopped complaining about zhe cold yet or do zhe fires need to be stoked a little more?

[Bulla has known since their Balamb Garden days that Marco is a phoenix, so she's not as alarmed as some would be by this.]

That's one way of staying warm, I suppose. Isn't it kind of uncomfortable to be tied up and rotating like that, though?
