♕ 01 • Arrival
♕ I. Action [The Bay]
[Lotor emerges from the pod in confusion, accompanied by a sleepy (and slightly grumpy) cat, who is curled around his neck. Lotor is also sleepy (and possibly also grumpy). He's on guard, too. He's never had the experience of not knowing where he is before. It looks like he's on a planet. Where is the fleet? Has he been abducted? Wary, he draws his blade, in case there are enemies nearby. At least he's still armed.
Once he has his bearings and is relatively sure that there are no enemies here ready to attack, Lotor reads the pamphlet. He listens very closely to the welcoming speech given by the hologram. The warning about tampering with the hologram is very clear. Well—Lotor doesn't intend to tamper. He just wants to learn a little more about the device and how the hologram is generated, which is why he leans in close and runs his claws across the surface of the stand.]
Hm, I wonder what the energy source is.
♕ II. Action [Genessia City; Library]
[There's a child in the library who has surrounded himself with a massive array of books. They are stacked on either side of him, as well as in front of him, and his attention shifts from book to book quickly. He leafs through one quickly before abandoning it in favor of the next.
His cat, Kova, is still with him, lounging and dosing on the table Lotor has commandeered. Is this child taking up residence? Are cats even allowed in the library? Regardless of how well he's following the library's rules, it's definite that no one is allowed to eat the books, which is what Kova starts doing when he rises, stretches, and starts to nibble on the corner of a page.
Lotor idly waves the cat away.]
Kova, no—I know they're primitive, but they're information retrieval devices.
♕ III. Network: Text
[Having the ability to make a general public transmission of his own, with no oversight? It's new for Lotor, and it's exhilarating to be free from authority, so he wastes little time in making use of the network. Really, what is it if not another source of information?]
I want to know about the others who were brought here. Tell me, what is your name, rank, and planet of origin?
[Those are decent, basic questions to start with.]
♕ IV. Action [Nova City]
[Wandering and exploring his new surroundings has taken up a lot of Lotor's time. He now finds himself in Nova City. Nova City feels a little more like home, if it still isn't quite like living on board a giant warship. Walking past the shops and other businesses, Lotor peers curiously into the windows. Kova, even more tired now, is lying on Lotor's shoulders, asleep. It occurs to Lotor that he should find somewhere to stay soon—for Kova's sake, at least. He needs to take proper care of his animal.
In front of a café, Lotor stops short and stares through the window. Inside, people are seated at tables, eating. The food here is so strange, but he's suddenly so hungry. He remembers the red bills that he found when he woke up. He should be able to use them to buy things. But he needs to determine if this alien food is edible. As if sensing his thoughts, Kova opens his eyes and mews wearily. He's probably hungry, too. Lotor straightens, determined. He's the one in charge here, so he's going to handle this situation.]
Don't worry. I'll find us something we can eat.

♕ IV. Action [Nova City]

[ With her explanation given, she glances down to Lotor where he stands—or, more accurately, Kova on his shoulder. ]
...Stay here.
[ The cat likely can't come inside, but... There's outdoor seating. She'll go ahead and request it, then. Again, she trusts him to do as asked as she steps inside; it isn't long before she returns again with a server, for them both to be seated. ]

[Lotor would definitely, without a doubt, have gone into the restaurant with his cat, even if he were told not to, but he sees no problem with waiting as Maiya suggests. Going to a restaurant is an entirely new experience for him, and he doesn't quite know how it's supposed to work. He contents himself with continuing to look around interestedly as she waits.
His legs don't quite reach the ground when he sits in one of the chairs at the table the server leads them to, but overall, he's pleased with the size of things here. Everything on the Galra ships is big, made for Galra who are closer to Father's size than his. He seems to be similar to humans in size and shape. Could that mean he's part human? Well—he's never even heard of a human before. They might not even exist in his universe, if everyone comes here from different dimensions.
Still, it's something to keep in mind. As the server leaves them so they can decide, he looks up at Maiya.]
What is your name and rank?
[He had just—taken it for granted that she was showing him around. He hadn't thought to ask who she was. On the ship, that's not something he ever has to do.]
no subject
[ She answers him without hesitation, but the question of rank stands out in her mind. She realizes it isn't a normal question for a child to ask. Much of his behavior is atypical for a child, and not wholly unrecognizable to her in its seriousness and formality—but it's still too different from what her own had once been for her to draw a real conclusion. ]
Yours is?
no subject
[For Galra, rank stays with you no matter where you go.
Having been raised on a military ship, most people Lotor interacts with have some kind of rank. The Galra, as a whole, are an extremely militarized society. They're not without a civilian population, but he doesn't interact with them often, and even they may have ranks or titles.
Therefore, he's more used to calling people by their ranks or titles. Except for Father and Dayak. And Father prefers that he call him "Emperor", even if he is allowed to say Father.]
I am Prince Lotor of the Galra Empire.
[As he's seen no evidence that the Galra have enemies here, he sees no reason to hide his origins or title, even if he hasn't gone out of his way to advertise it.]
no subject
[ A prince, she supposes, would explain it. Though, he doesn't seem nearly so spoiled as she would assume royalty to be. She watches him across the table for a long moment, her serious expression unfaltering as she muses over the question of rank. It's true that, technically, she would have held such under the military, but... ]
I have existed outside of any system of rank for many years. My answer would be irrelevant.
no subject
[What to call her seems to have been his primary inspiration for asking—and it was one inspiration, although curiosity was a greater one.]
What food should I get along with the hamburger, Maiya?
[Because, looking down at the menu the server gave them, he sees a lot of other foods listed along with the hamburger sandwich. And he doesn't know what any of them are.]
And what should Kova have to eat? He's hungry.
[The cat blinks at Maiya. Lotor knows that technically, he and Kova can both go a very long time without eating, but—still, he feels hungry, and he wants to try eating here. Which is why he thinks Kova probably feels the same.]
no subject
[ She watches him as he looks down at the menu in his hand, only turning her attention to her own at his prompting. There's a predictable selection of side orders to come along with it, but— ]
French fries are the most traditional choice. They're made of tubers that have been cut and fried.
[ Then, she looks to Kova again, holding its gaze as if it were as sapient as she and Lotor are. And—maybe it is. She certainly can't say otherwise. ]
There is grilled fish.
[ That's what cats are supposed to enjoy, isn't it? ]
no subject
[He nods when she describes french fries. He's not familiar with them, but if they're what people usually eat with a hamburger, then he's going to try them. He swings his legs in the tall chair, a little excitedly.]
I'll have those, then. Yes, I think Kova would like the fish.
[He does know what fish is, and it sounds acceptable for a cat. When the server comes, he readily gives his order. The server glances at the cat, but since this is Nova City, maybe there are some intelligent cats among the population, and Kova's presence there is not challenged. Kova remains very mannerly and retains his perch on Lotor's shoulder, now purring faintly.]
What planet are you from, Maiya? Are you a human?
no subject
[ She continues to study him where he sits across from her, largely by reflex. She doesn't suspect there's any need to monitor his every move—though, she supposes, this is something of a unique opportunity. She supposes there are many people in the world who would be overjoyed by the chance to speak to intelligent life from another planet, even if anything that can be gained from the opportunity seems far too immaterial to excite Maiya herself.
Though, despite herself, she can't help but notice how similar that small, excited shift in his body language is to a normal human child's. ]
Then, are you already familiar with humans...?
[ That puts her at a disadvantage in this conversation, if so, but she doesn't say so outright. ]
no subject
[They may be his first encounters, so he's no expert, but he thinks he already knows a few things about the species. They're not very much like Galra—although he's noticed that they look as much like him as other Galra do... which is interesting.]
I never met any back home.
[Lotor nods knowingly.]
Oh yes, Earth. I've heard it mentioned. I'm from the Galra Empire.
[He hasn't met anyone else here who's heard of it. Which he feels torn about—of course, the empire is great and should be respected, but it's also oddly freeing to be able to do as he likes without having to think of the empire.]
