19th Healing | The Disappeared

She hasn't been around for a while, but... Eva-chan is gone.

And this time around, I feel like a lot of people have disappeared.

[ Normally, Konoka tried to hide her negative emotions, but by the look on her fact that was an impossibility now. She hadn't really done anything for Valentine's Day, but any thoughts of making up for that went out the window. So Konoka's grave face paints the video screen. ]

There's been so many people I've met throughout my time here, and so many are gone.

But life keeps going. New people show up. It's kind of like... the cycle of life, but sped up.

[ It seemed like she just now reached that conclusion. ]

It's weird. It feels unfair, and to be honest, I don't know what to do... outside of keep doing what I normally do. But it still hurts from seeing the impact. I guess that's all I can really say.

[ And Konoka shuts off the video. ]

Konoka... will largely just take to staying around Amatsu and her store. Now that she's no longer a deputy, she has a lot more free time. At Amatsu, Konoka may be seen at one of the lounging areas, idly staring into space or petting one of her Pokemon, who seem to be pretty aware of her conflicted misery. At her store though, she's focusing hardcore on paperwork and spells. Hey, just because a mentor is gone doesn't mean that she can slack off on studies. And seeing how things are mean that she needed to get a healer's system up and running sooner rather than later. She'll greet anyone with a smile and help, but anyone who knows her might see that she may come off mildly distracted.

Good cakes are like magic: they can accomplish miracles. Mavis sits down and cuts a piece of cake for Konoka, setting it on a paper plate and handing it to her before cutting a piece for herself.

"Two weeks?" She shook her head. "How did you manage to last so long?" It was a genuine question. "And Fairy Tail always comes prepared! It's one of the guild's mottos." She winked.

"So tell me about those cake-less weeks..."

Konoka at first wondered what Koishi meant by eating emotions. If she were eating them, did that mean Konoka wouldn't feel them anymore? But if Koishi actually ate them all up, Konoka would have stopped feeling sad before now. Or Yuunagi would have noticed.

So she shrugged. "Well if you're helping me, I can't turn that down, now can I?" Konoka asked softly, giving a small smile despite herself. "I suppose the easiest thing is to find somebody else to be social with, but I'm open to your ideas."

Konoka couldn't help but giggle at that question... which turned into another giggle when she realized that Mavis was serious.

Konoka gave a polite shrug after she savored a bite. "I just went with the occasional cookie, I guess. Desserts are really only good if I get time to really savor them, and I don't get to enjoy them if I'm staring at a TV or something."

She meant literally. But she wasn't about to clarify. Though her presence did seem to be taking the edge off of the unpleasant feelings, it didn't seem they were being consumed entirely. Far from it. After all, if a person stopped feeling fear or sadness or whatever then Koishi's meal would be (presumably) over.

"Yay! I like helping people!" She clapped her hands in excitement. "Yeah! You should find people to talk to!" You're technically people, Koishi.

The fact that she was talking didn't escape Konoka's attention either.

"I'm talking to you already though." Konoka added with a small grin. "Are you wanting me to join you in talking to someone else?"

People do need that reassurance but at the same time... Can we honestly be reassured when it happens over and over?

Especially for those who are very much used to it like yourself.

[ That seemed to strike Konoka in some unexpected part of her mind. Was he right? Was she really just giving empty platitudes? But what was she...? ]

I...

Well...

Then what am I supposed to do?!

Honestly. I don't know.

[Considering Takeru's own fears of people leaving, or if they were here one person dying, he understood this situation.]

It's a really difficult subject as each person is different to be able to give any good advice. Believe me.

Well... fine.

[ He probably meant well but it didn't help. She might very well crash, but with no other options she had no choice but to go her original path. ]

But people still need me.

Then focus on those that are here and need you now then. Instead of what might be or is already gone.

"Are you really? Or is it just your imagination?" She tilted her head, smiling. "Sometimes I forget. And sometimes people forget me. They think they're talking to themselves. So be sure to talk to other people too after this, okay?"

"Ah, that's a good idea regardless, I can't think I've met some quota and then find myself in depression later!" Konoka pumped her fist, motivated by Koishi's advice on grounds that she agreed with it.

"But what do you mean by imagination?" Konoka tilted her head. Koishi was a confusing thing, still. It had to be some sort of miracle that she caught on to how Koishi described emotions.

"I mean exactly that. I'm a creature of the subconscious. Sometimes people convince themselves they imagined me. Even though I'm real."

She was scooting ever closer to Konoka, eventually ending with quite the hug. There was no such thing as personal space as far as Koishi was concerned.

"You're not imaginary though. So I bet you'll make lots of new friends really easily!" And it looked like Koishi was going to be one of them.

"A creature of the subconscious?" Konoka tilted her head. Another thing she didn't quite get and would have to think about. But context clues were a thing, and she realized that maybe Koishi had some means of slipping in and out of people's mental thoughts.

"I hope so," Konoka said, a small frown on her face. How long would this go on? If she lost anyone else, she might very well lose it...

"I know so. You're pretty and nice and your mind is full of pretty colors and notes. Don't be so gloomy or else no one else can see them."

Koishi redoubled the hug. Which meant tentacuddles. This is Konoka's life now. Oops.

"Mmmmm." Konoka nodded. It was hard to think like that now, but Koishi's words were encouraging.

"Thanks. I..." Konoka started before suddenly there were tentacles. Tentacles everywhere, squeezing her in an embrace she never knew was possible until now. "Waaaah! So much...!" Was it tight? Yeah, but somehow not uncomfortably so, just alien...

Mavis nodded. "It's very true. Desserts have to be savored. And it's even better when you share with other people. ...Assuming there's enough cake of course."

She paused. "Eating cookies on your own might be a little light... to help you deal with missing someone you cared about." Her expression was somewhat more serious now. Still, the smile quickly came back to her face. "But I'm always here to help. That's what old people like me are for, after all." Because they know what it's like.

"Yeah, that's true!" Konoka laughed, though the weight of all those who left seemed to still linger.

And then why Mavis seemed ultra-concerned about her only eating cookies clicked. Konoka's smile again fell without fully disappearing. "Yeah, I suppose I needed to indulge a bit more. I... just really miss those people." Konoka started to look sad even as she continued eating. "They were how I managed to get strong."

At least they were velvety soft and not slimy... And attached to a sweet cuddlemonster and not something much much worse.

"Yeah! A lot!" Koishi agreed. Though she didn't know what she was agreeing to. One more squeeze and the tendrils began to unwind themselves, disappearing up and into her sleeves.

"Hugs are always great! Don't be afraid to hug people!" Koishi you're one of the only people who can get away with random hugs.

When Koishi stopped the hug, Konoka released a breath she didn't know she was holding. She had done her fair share of strong hugs though, so she didn't knock Koishi for that.

"I... thanks," she said, just a little awkwardly. "I dunno what it would be like if I could hug people with tentacles though..."

"Tentacles are great!" She waved her arms. "They let me reach things on high shelves and I can hunt bigger prey with them like deer."

Nuzzle nuzzle. "Also! They're great for hugs!"

Again Konoka seemed lost at certain details. "Would I really like a diet of deer though...?" At least that confusion was brief, and she got the general point of it.

"Yeah, I suppose that the tentacles not being slimy or reaching in inappropriate places makes them feel a lot better." Konoka nodded.

"I don't mind deer. Satori youkai are carnivores by nature. I can eat other things but meat is always my favorite. And a deer has a lot of meat."

The second comment gave Koishi some pause. Tentacles? In inappropriate places? How very clearly absurd. "Yeah! It's good that they're so soft. That way they don't stick to themselves because that would hurt a lot. It's really bothersome when they get wet too."

"Huh..." well today Konoka learned more about tentacles than she ever expected to. "Well Ms. Youkai--Koishi-han," the brunette drew herself up as much as she felt like she was able. "Thank you for your help. Maybe I can shake this feeling after all. You... you live in that place called Chireiden, right? I might want to pay a visit some time."

There's a lot more she could learn. Like how Koishi fit approximately 200 feet of tentacle in her rather petite frame.

"Huh? Oh! Yeah! That's where I live!" She waved her arms. Its in the Fayren waterways. Sis set up lights so its not so hard to find. Just follow them. I bet you'll like it there! You can stay for tea!"

Tea was always good. Everyone liked it, right?
