All this time, I've feared that this world would make me too soft. And all this time, I have tried my best to not let that happen. And yet...I fear that it's happened regardless.

So I suppose my question is, what can I do to keep my claws sharp around here?

Do you mean literally or figuratively, my lord?

[He's not sure what to think of the "my lord" address. He's hardly a lord, and he's still not used to dragonkind being seen as a revered species by others. He had wanted to start a clan here, whether it consists of dragons or other beings, but even if he did, would he be the leader? As he has no answers for those questions, he leaves it as is and addresses the question at hand.]

Most likely both. It's been too long since I've fought formidable beasts, and I've grown too accustomed to the human laws that I fear it might be holding me back.

(She will speak to him respectfully because of what he is, but also because she appreciates his ideas/way of living.)

I will do all I can to help you. Where shall we find stronger prey? I heard of beasts called elephants moving in herds somewhere.

[He lets out an exasperated sigh.]

I haven't a clue. Most beasts in Fayren are of the docile kind. Everglade has some vicious beasts, but they're also having conflicts over rights for the undead and other non-human creatures, so I do not wish to cause any more unrest there.

[He's not sure about the elephants. They might make a nice snack, but he's hungering for something else...]

Are all the Everglade beasts involved in the conflicts? Or are some on the fringe, ready for a fight with a dragon?

(This isn't exactly diplomatic, but she doesn't like seeing him frustrated.)

If you strike fast and hard, word will never spread of your doings.

I'm not entirely certain, but I'm assuming they're all involved to be on the safe side.

[There's another, softer sigh.]

I was sort of hoping for an opponent who can last longer than two seconds against me. There may be only one solution...

(She arches a brow.)

What is your solution - ?

Perhaps to bring out a few dragons from my clan in the subarchway and spar with them.

Would that be a tiresome task for you?

What, bringing them out? It shouldn't be. As for sparring with them, that's kind of the point.

I meant bringing them out.

(Then...)

I wondered why you seemed reluctant to summon them.

It's...painful. A painful reminder of how things were...before our lair was destroyed and our clan was scattered.

I see. (It might be a bit like her facing one of her brothers or her parents.) Exhaustion can free you, briefly, from your pain.

That isn't the point. In any case, I can't run from it forever. Somehow I'll find the clan and rebuild. It would not be the first time I've done so.

But it is a positive outcome of your plan. (She purses her lips, thinking of the Iron Throne and the chaotic Seven Kingdoms.) You will succeed; you have no other choice.

[He bows his head.]

Indeed. Perhaps more than any of us know...

What do you mean? (Her instincts are maternal towards Liora; that is why she is precious to her.)

...Some of my clan first found her being held captive by the Beastclans. We found that odd because the Beastclans had made it a point to kill every dragon they see, so why they kept her alive was beyond us. Shortly afterwards, Liora met a dark dragon named Erebus, who seemed fixated on her. According to her, Erebus said he saw a spark in her that no other dragon in Sornieth has. What that means is anyone's guess…

She must have served a purpose for them. (Or been seen as a representative of...a god/goddess?) Do you have a religion?

We have eleven deities that are responsible for shaping the world and giving birth to dragonkind. Liora had told us that she was sent by the Lightweaver to find the "Fae of Light," who was supposed to lead dragonkind to an age of prosperity. Perhaps that's why the Beastclans were after her...

[So she certainly is representing a deity...]
