Operation 35 | [Video]
[The feed opens up with Gale sitting on his desk in the Skyrise as always. His face is a stark contrast to how he appeared on the network the last time... although it looks like he had some kind of professional makeup work done recently. Wow, that mascara really brings out his eyes. His coat even has a new patch on its left sleeve.]
It's that time again for a message from your local Nova Guardian. First, as has been previously mentioned, I regret to inform that Ayame has departed back to her home world. Which means Nova is now solely in my hands once again. Sorry 'bout that.
[For having lost his friend, he seems to be in an okay mood. But he had his grieving time. He doesn't want Ayame, Faye or even Andy to come back just to slap him for not doing his job.]
Second, Trunks will be joinin' the deputy team. And if there are any other takers, I may be able to take on one more deputy. The loss of Ayame unfortunately opened up the funds for it.
Third, I would like to announce the formation of the Mobile Task Force, codename Stormrider. There've been numerous talks in the past about a mobile unit to provide aid to cities and its respective Guardians in times of crisis, and it was about damn time for that team to come to fruition. With the aid of Genessia Guardian Satou, this team will now be lookin' for recruits. There is a mandatory training test in Genessia's Training Centre to best evaluate personal skills so they can be properly utilized, as well as to ensure that the individual is capable of working in a team. Teamwork is critical, and if you cannot work with others, then I suggest you look elsewhere.
[His eyes narrow then.]
But know that this is not a vigilante team, nor is it a team of "heroes," this is a team to aid the citizenry who cannot otherwise protect themselves should a Guardian find their scope and reach compromised. Barrier breaches and other worldly threats have happened before, we need to be ready when it inevitably happens again. They, of course, will be expected to follow the law to the fullest extent and have no special permissions unless otherwise authorized.
That said, come June when someone takes over my position, I will be shiftin' my focus previously reserved for Guardianship over to Stormrider. I will be sending out text notices regarding the MTF following this message.
[That's right folks, Gale won't be running again. He had his fill of campaigning bullshit. Politics are the worst, and he hates making these "professional" broadcasts. Ugh make them stop. He just wants to mix drinks and dance again.]
Ah. And given the recent anonymous report about potential monsters on the loose, Nova's team will be extra vigilant in case one of these creatures turns up here. Don't hesitate to call the Guardian's office if you see one.
[He waves to the screen and the video cuts. Shortly after, there will be a text with a link of information regarding the Mobile Task Force, with an extra note saying to disregard the message if the MTF is of no interest to the individual.]

no subject
I would also be interested in your task force. If that is okay?
no subject
[And it wasn't the first time Ayame disappeared either. He pushes all other thoughts aside and nods.]
Of course. The MTF will need as many people as it can get to be fully effective. What's your name, doll?
no subject
As for my name, it's Kairi.
no subject
[It stung thinking about the people he lost, but goddammit, he needs to get over it.]
Good to meet ya, Kairi. I'd be happy to have you on the MTF. You one for the front lines or the medical end of things?
no subject
[She wanted to help, but wasn't sure if those words would do it.]
I can do either. I have a spell for offensive, but I know a healing spell too. So you can put me where you think I'll be most useful.
no subject
I guess. But when you've got the stuff from former roommates left untouched in your home, it's just a constant reminder of their absence.
[But he wasn't content leaving his pouting on the shoulders of a younger girl. She didn't need to hear the whining from a 30-year-old lonely man.]
Havin' someone medical isn't the top priority, so bein' a front line officer would be ideal. Plus healing spells on the front line would probably be a huge help in more dire situations. Sound good?
no subject
[She nodded slightly, that she could do that easily.]
I can do that. I promise I will do my very best.
[Karla's pondering for a moment.]
I might be interested in joining the deputy team? Or this "mobile task force"...whichever is preferable for you.
no subject
[And deep down, he's kind of hesitant about the idea of hiring someone close to him again for the job. After Faye and Ayame... he's not sure he's ready to go through an ordeal like that again anytime soon. If at all. But the Task Force needed members more than anything right now.]
Your skills will be invaluable either way, I'd be happy to have you on board with Stormrider.
Thank you Guardian Reinhardt.
[Because this is going to be formal and brief.]
Consider this my formal introduction. My name is Trunks Brief, resident of Nova City since I arrived about a year and a half-ago. Please don't hesitate to contact me as part of the guardian team. I'm looking forward to helping keep Nova City, and the cities as a whole, safe for all residents.
[Yes, he feels as awkward as he sounds--like this is an interview almost.]
[Private]
[Said teasingly and with love.]
Even if you totally sound like a nerd there.
[Private lock to Bulla]
Gee, thanks? Seriously, I have no idea what to say or how this would be done alright?
[Sarcasm in his statement. With some Text coming through as well.]
Gale is...incredibly casual. I'm not sure what I was expecting, so I'm not exactly sure how to react to this announcement either.
[Text, private]
Re: [Text, private]
I don't KNOW Gale as well as Dante though. I hardly know him at all! I'm still kind of bemused by the fact that I just applied and he hired me without even a cursory interview or something.

Re: [Text, private]
action;
Relax, kid. You're well past the interview stage.
[You know, if you could call anything that Gale did an "interview".]
For future reference, just call me Gale. "Guardian Reinhardt" is too stuffy for the likes of me. Just 'cuz I do the paperwork doesn't mean I deserve a special title.
[It's only just dawned on him, and god, are all of his deputies all so proper and stuffy? It just ain't his style. He blames Ayame. He does spot Trunks make a quick text, to which Gale teasingly leans over and raises both eyebrows.]
Who ya textin'? I hope you're not talkin' shit about me already on day one.
Re: action;
I was raised to be polite, but Gale it is then.
[And there is a blink at being caught, then a soft chuckle.]
Nah. I don't know you well enough yet for that, as to how you are as a boss. Besides, polite I might be, but I will say any problems I have to you directly. This is just my sister giving me guff.
no subject
I was raised a mercenary. Bein' referred to like I'm a military boy just don't work.
[Plus when people call him 'Reinhardt' regardless, then they know by default they don't like him. It's an important distinction to make.]
Hah. Yeah, sisters do that.
[Gale's teasing tone fades along with his cheeky smirk, instead changing it more for a somber smile. He couldn't help but feel a little envious of his new partner. His tone remained pleasant, but now subdued.]
You two must be real close, huh. Well, that'll be a good way to keep good ties with Genessia City what with your sister bein' there. Reliable communication and all that.
no subject
[With a hint of smirk.]
Considering I didn't know I had one before she arrived here? I'm pretty happy we're as close as we are. Our situation is weirder than most, and involves multiple dimensions and timelines. One thing Briefs seem to be good at doing though is adapting.
no subject
[The 'General' of course being Grievous. But Gale probably gets along with a certain military from his home world even worse, given his tendency of stealing their tech.]
That sounds like standard Genessia fair, really. Pretty sure I saw a kid a while back complaining about how he had entirely different memories from the rest of his family that was here. This place is screwy.
[Maybe Gale was lucky comparatively. He scoffs quietly, pushing himself away from the desk and to the corner of the office- putting a minibar in here was probably the best thing he did.]
Want a drink? Got alcoholic and non over here. I dunno about you, but I always need one after puttin' on a professional face.
[Alcohol is how he copes with politics. And how he copes with thinking about his own sisters, but that's an entirely different drinking matter.]
no subject
[Because Trunks really does need to see about meeting the other Nova Deputies. He'd met one or two before, but they were gone now.]
I mean, here--you're probably right.
[Although Trunks will nod, and try and relax.]
I mean...if you're sure? I don't really have a preference. To put my situation simply, Mai and I are from one timeline, Goku and Seventeen are from a different timeline that's parallel and slightly behind the one Mai and I are from, and Bulla's from a completely different timeline that's actually in the future for Goku and Seventeen, but events diverged at some point past a common point in the line of their world and hers.
[Tilting his head and trying to think, Trunks hmms for a moment.]
I think Broly is from the same timeline and world Goku and Seventeen are from. I'm not sure which timeline and world Cell is from, except that it's not mine.
no subject
[Which just makes him remember that she's gone too. Goddamn, who all is even left? He shrugs, concerning himself with mixing a couple drinks.]
Wouldn't have offered if I wasn't sure. [He shrugs again.] Sounds like your world's a real piece of work. But I also only know two of those names you said, and the only reason I know of Seventeen was when he ran against me on my second debate.
[He certainly will not miss those debates once he's through with this term. That shit was taxing and he hated it.]
I never got to be around anyone from my world. I know a couple have shown up, but I made a point to avoid 'em. I'm sure the feeling was mutual for one of 'em. 'least I don't have to worry about that general getting up in my grill.
[At least Kazimir was a short lived nuisance. He walks back over to his desk with two drinks in hand.]
I'll be content so long as my sisters don't end up here. [He offers one of the glasses.] Here. Tell me what ya think. I'm always experimentin' when I'm bored in here.
no subject
[Trunks takes the offered glass, with a slight tip-up in a toast and thank you gesture.]
Goku's pretty distinctive, if you see him; mostly his hairstyle and smile. Mai is good at blending in, but she's an ace sniper and fire-arms expert. She was also in charge of the resistance back home, and kept everyone going--including me.
[There is definitely a smile talking about both of them, but with different nuances. Friendship and admiration for Goku, affection and love as well as admiration for Mai.
Then taking a sip of the drink, then slightly more of a drink and pondering. Letting himself analyze the flavors.]
Not bad, if slightly too sweet compared to what I'm used to. Not that I drink that often so...
[A shrug.]
How many sisters do you have?
no subject
[Since he can pay out of pocket for one more, but the matter of finding another is entirely different. Ayame certainly had better luck finding deputies than he did. His eccentric nature must precede him or something.
He dropped himself in his chair, somehow managing to avoid spilling anything from his glass in the process. That Mai sounded like someone the MTF would benefit from, but he won't bother bringing that up. He made the MTF known, that's all he cares about right now.]
Too sweet, eh? Maybe I'll cut back on the liqueur next time then. Wouldn't hurt to tinker with it more since I put it together on the fly.
[He paused for a moment at the question before he slowly took a sip of his drink. Yeah, maybe it was a little on the sweeter side. But he stared blankly at the glass for a few seconds before he sat it on his desk, opening the top drawer with his other hand. He pulled out a picture frame and showed it to Trunks, a photo of two uniformed women.]
Two of 'em. One's older, one's younger. They're the only livin' family I've got. Or at least, I assume they're still alive. Who the hell knows what's happened at home in my near four year absence.
no subject
[Mai would be very good for the MTF honestly; whether she wanted to or not was the question. Still, the announcement had been made so Trunks wasn't going to bring it up unless Mai expressed an interest. As it was, he tried to relax a bit and enjoy the drink--slightly too sweet or not. Still texting with Bulla too, while talking to Gale. Leaning forward in interest, at the picture.]
I...try to not think about it honestly. How time might be moving.
[A longer drink; as he and Mai were among those who probably didn't have to worry. After all, their original timeline&world had been erased. They were technically returning to a new-alternate timeline that was almost entirely identical but for a minor change or two. That world also already had a Mai and Trunks in it too--so it wasn't like it was undefended.
He still tried to not think about it though.]
You've been here a while then. I need to get back to looking into some of the mysteries of this place. With Ms. Schnee gone, I do wonder about the GSRF."
