Cold as Ice Event Start
In the forest, a chill started to blow through the trees and slowly making its way towards the city. The chill only getting colder and colder as the day ran on until eventually, it was cold enough that ice started to form along the ground seeping out from the forest, slowly creeping along the ground and up the walls.
As soon as the ice started to form howling along with other noises one can only guess as to what animal it came from started to echo. Within hours the city soon found itself with ice and icy like creatures roaming the streets.
What is going on? Where did the ice come from? The only way to know is to figure it out.
[OOC: I will be tagging in depending on what people do to either give hints if it seems to be going that way or anything else.]

Fayren village - OTA
It was hard to leave a place that made him so happy. He'd learned, however, that his necklace had colors for a reason, and one of them shone Fayren's color. Could it be? Another wonderful place to explore where even more people would do wonderful things for him? They even had royalty there! Like he was used to. And cold weather, too, another familiarity. It didn't bother a skeleton like him--no skin, you see.
He strolled along the medieval, cobblestone roads, expecting something great to happen to the great Papyrus any second now.]
THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE IN FAYREN IS SMALLER THAN I EXPECTED. ARE THEY ON VACATION? MAYBE THEY'RE HOLDING A SURPRISE PARTY FOR ME AND HIDING UNTIL I FIND IT! NYEH HEH HEH, COULD THE GREAT PAPYRUS BE STROLLING INTO ANOTHER TRAP TO DROWN HIM IN AFFECTION??
[Before he could find this mysterious surprise party, no doubt laid to roll out the red carpet and welcome him, he had another visitor: one of many that were the real reason no one sane was out of doors.]
UM...
[An ice wolf. Well, some dogs Papyrus liked and admired. Most of the guardsmen--what he wanted to be--were dogs, and they kept vigilant watch over Snowdin. Other dogs...other dogs had given him trouble.]
GREETINGS, ICICLE DOG! ARE YOU HERE TO LEAD ME TO THE SURPRISE PARTY...?
[It was not. As it lunged towards the unsuspecting skeleton, it was clear that this one was after his bones.]
Fayren Forests - OTA
A little canvassing told him that the troubles were felt to start with the forest. While the weather's different in all cities, what shouldn't be different was a steadily increasing temperature as they approached Spring. Fayren had gone the other way, and this bore investigating.
Cloaked in his goku uniform, a black wraith glided along the frozen undergrowth with a blocky Nova City weather device in his hands. The chill was unnatural, and it had an origin. Where did the wind blow fiercest? Coldest? There, Ted thought, laid the heart of the matter.]

Fayren Forest
[Qubine isn't sure exactly where to go, but he's sure if the culprit was hiding, it'd be as far away from public as possible. So first he'll walk along the forest, towering over the trees to see what he can find, if anything...]

[Wolves, eh? Per their usual nature, Ted let them draw in close, encircling him from all sides as they exhaled bursts of hoarfrost. Call him crazy, but he's detecting a significant ice theme here, so he'll apply an elemental, protective charm to himself to that effect.
They pounced, and he reacted. Threads lanced from his form, embedding into each attacker. Next, a small piece of kinetic crystal was drawn from the void into the frigid beasts, implanting itself where the threads struck. Finally, all in a split second of action, he punched the crystals, producing a burst of kinetic force that the connecting threads would divvy up between each attacker. It was more than enough to cause the crystals to riotously expand, bursting each and every ice-wolf from the inside-out.
A messy attack, but at least he'd get to see what they're made of.
The lesser threats dispatched, Ted thought he had a good idea of how to proceed. Should he fail to discern where the temperature was lowest, perhaps the motion of further monsters on a motion tracker would avail. Where the monsters were thickest, there might the root of the problem lie.]

[Gale walks up from behind Satou. He was another Guardian on the case to lend his aid, having left Grievous in charge in Nova City in his absence. Gale himself was decked out a little differently for this one. The mask was likely going to prove useful. He folded his arms, looking at the same frozen home Satou was.]
First order of business was seein' if we can get through the ice. I did a bit of experimenting already.
[He held his arm out and blue flames traced around the door frame. Slowly but surely, the ice melted away from the door. Dispelling the flames, Gale looked at her.]
Mages that can safely control fire magic may be key players in gettin' people access to their homes.

Gale, however, was not one to stand around. He made a point to aid in the city some, but just helping the city wasn't going to get to the source of the problem. He wasn't going to bother making a team for the moment (a team would just be a bigger target, and those ice creatures weren't exactly friendly) so he would do what he does best: Running straight in the direction where the ice seemed to grow thicker.
He had his mask to scan the area in case there were bigger beasties to worry about (or if there was someone else in the direction he was going), and he would use it to determine any temperature changes... but he wasn't exactly being tactical or methodical about his approach. Charging in recklessly was just what he tends to do. LEEEEEEROY-]
Fayren Outskirts - OTA
Never fear, folks! Etna is here! Donations are very much welcome, but I will be sending an invoice for services rendered to your benevolent Guardian.
[She grins, twirling her spear a bit.] But, time to get down to business. Let's crush these clowns!
[And with a gleeful battle cry she leaps into the fray, aiming for the nearest creature to crush.]

[Today's not at all surprising fact of the day is: Bakugou hates the cold. He despises it, almost as much as he despises inaudible mumbling, people not doing their homework, and water. It's too hard to work up a sweat in the cold, which means he has to work twice as hard to blow up the icy insides of the animal he's fighting.]
They're animals, Pink Cheeks. They don't understand reason.
no subject
[Satou twirls around to face him, red eyes bright with awe. Leave it to Bakugou to bring a ton of energy to such a cold and dreary place!
His comment stings, but she can't deny the truth in it either. They're made of ice.]
Mm, I suppose that's true... How should we do this, then? Got a formation in mind?
no subject
[He scoffs at her before eying the ice animals warily.] They'll just keep coming if we attack, there's no guarantee that they'll stop. And I have to be careful about property damage... Think we can make ourselves a path? We have to find the source.
no subject
[She pouts, briefly childish and teasing. Then snaps back into focus.]
I can fire a beam to clear a path. It won’t hurt you, so you can lead with me taking the rear. Sound fair, Deputy Bakugou?
no subject
[He smirks a little.]
Whatever you say, Guardian Satou.

[Satou looks over her shoulder, imagining the trees around them. The windtail of the icicles is her first hint, but she points in her suspected direction for confirmation.]
You okay with heading that way?

Could be a possible reason for it?]

However studying from afar there seemed to just be a clearing, nothing that seemed out of place. Just seemed empty and filled with monsters. But why were the numbers much higher here than anywhere else?
If one pays closer attention might notice that they seem to not cover one specific area of clearing so appeared to form a giant circle around it instead, but the numbers were still rather high around them.]

Well, not just yet. If pressed, Ted could, alarmingly, pull out the equivalent of a nuke and decimate all life, natural or otherwise, in a large area. But maybe he didn't have to be noisy just yet. No harm in observing. He could clear out the beasts later. Eye on the prize: why are they there?
A circle's a suspicious shape, especially as the threes have thinned out and all but disappeared. He'd thought the forest was pretty thick in Fayren, going in all directions for a ways. Yet this was barren, with the monsters forming some sort of epicenter, like a bulls-eye.
He sent one furtive thread silently out towards that center; one black, think serpent that dove a few inches underground, seeking the center and digging therein to see what secrets these monsters gave the impression of guarding.]
Deep Forest (The Sky)
Hopefully nothing would interrupt her peaceful and happy flight.

She saw Satou showing up around the time she also started noticing homes freezing up. ]
I don't know any heavy fire spells, but...
[ She chucked out a Pokeball, and Torracat emerged. Slightly annoyed but ever so happy to see opportunity, it didn't waste time belching fire at the frozen door, melting the ice. ]
I hope that can help us rescue people.
Backdated to beginning of event, I guess?
As soon as Roland heard the news, he came over to Fayren to render his assistance -- not as the mayor of Genessia, but simply as a concerned neighbor. He hadn't intended to take charge of anything, but given his calm, quietly confident aura, like he knew he what he was doing and nothing could rattle him, he found himself in a position of leadership in the relief efforts anyway.
So after helping to clear the monsters from town, Roland flitted from place to place, organizing with others who had come to help, making sure everyone had warm clothes and blankets and hot food to stave off this supernatural cold, with axes on hand to make sure no one became trapped in an iced-over house, and that those with any kind of fire or heat powers were wherever they were needed most.
His higgledies played their part too -- the fire higgledies maintained a magical field of warmth, while those of other elements played with the children to keep their spirits up.
[B: Action]
Now Roland was patrolling the outskirts of town, making sure none of the ice monsters got close enough to town to endanger it again. While gazing across a large field toward the forest at the other end, a moving figure caught his eye, and he paused to try and see what it was.
A young girl emerged from the trees, hugging herself with her head down against the icy wind, slowly but steadily trudging toward town.
"Over here!" Roland waved, and began to jog toward the girl -- she didn't seem dressed for the weather. He inhaled sharply when there was another sign of movement behind her, a much faster one this time. The next moment, an ice wolf burst from the woods, seemingly intent on running down the girl.
"Behind you! RUN!" Roland broke out into a run himself, summoning a gun into his hand. The girl looked behind her, gasped, and tried to flee from the creature -- but ended up tripping over her own feet thanks to not watching where she was going. She didn't get up again, and the wolf was gaining fast.
"Get away from her!" The sound of rapid-fire gunshots carried across the field as Roland began to empty his supply of mana into the creature.

But then why were the numbers so big compared to other places?]
Sorry for the later reply.

Even if the monsters' goal and his are alike, Ted decides to try and destroy the barrier anyway. Doing nothing won't stop this unnatural cold. First, he'll have the thread pull something out of the void: his nundu cloak, an anti-magic sheet of fabric whose anti-magic properties would ruin just about any wizard's day. He'll try and apply it to the force-field, again with the thread yards away from himself, and see what happens.]

So he leaps up into a tree, and carefully jumps from icy branch to icy branch. He'd rather not alert anything if he can avoid it. Eventually he comes to a stop and crouches carefully onto a branch, putting a hand on his mask. He zooms in to view further into the distance, in an attempt to see if there's anything further on than ice, ice and more ice.]

and not a lot else on his plate at the momentit was only a matter of time before the Doctor came out to investigate. Not so much a head-on fighter, of course, he didn't come at them yelling; instead he came at them from the side, sonic in hand.Firstly, to scan them, see if he can find out anything about them, especially their crystal structure, what holds them together, any telepathic fields he can suss out (telepathic snow would be a familiar one!), that sort of thing. Secondly, if they're properly ice creatures, they might well be strongly affected by sonic devices resonating the crystals forming their bodies--either discouraging them, or destroying them if necessary.
Of course, they also might not, but only one way to really know. But don't worry, he's got a plan, in that event: run away while coming up with another plan.
And he'll doubtless end up helping someone else in a tight spot, if he stumbles across them.]

A Cold Day in Old Hell - Fayren Outskirts - OTA
Chireiden and its archway isn't exactly the coldest place imaginable, but it's an understandable concern when a region called a Former Hell ends up becoming unbearably cold. Chalk it up to the archway being stuck at the bottom of an old waterway...
Satori, as one can imagine, isn't pleased about this in the slightest, finding herself jolted awake by a much-cooler underground than she's used to and having to throw on a few extra layers to compensate.
And to make matters worse, Koishi's missing once again in the midst of what back home might be called an "Incident". Reluctantly leaving the safety of home, Satori heads out to investigate.
[Action]
Satori makes her way through the frigid day ahead of her with great chagrin. While the cold at least keeps wandering humans and other sapience at bay, she can't help but notice that it's far too quiet out here. That, and she's noticing movement further into the wilderness. Commonly knowledge to Gensokyo's inhabitants dictates that something - or someone - is at fault for this.
This sudden cold snap won't stop her from finding anyone else around, to see about what's going on. Due to lack of problem-solvers like Reimu and her friends around, if Satori runs into anyone looking for a fight, the youkai can't do much but outsmart and outlast. Her Spellcards might give her a bit of an edge, at least.
The best she can do at this point is to see where this unnatural cold is coming from and follow any clues she can find. If she runs into something or someone that helps or hinders, so be it...
Sorry for how long this took.

Re: It's k!
[Huh. So it's clearly magic something, but any headway he makes with the cloak will be paved over. Ted figures he'll have to disable whatever's powering it if he wants the goods. Whatever those are. Who can he call to assist? This would be so much easier if he didn't hate the very idea of getting help with anything dangerous ever. Desperate times...he withdraws the cloak to the void, and makes a few calls. Calls also cloaked imperceptibly in the void.
assuming he can still get reception in there]To Uai: Hello Uai. I assume the increasing chill and general, if artificial, malevolence is nothing new to you.
I'm calling because I've come across a large outcropping of monsters surrounding an impenetrable, magical dome of I know not what. I'd like to dig further and see what the fuss is about. What do you know of impregnable arcane hemispheres?
To Koishi: Good afternoon, Moon. Have you caught wind of Fayren's troubles yet? Do the monsters seem at all susceptible to your soporific ways? I ask because lulling them to sleep may put a dent in what I'm after. Or at the very least be more elegant than blowing them all to pieces.
no subject
It’s also concerning. Ted isn’t someone Uai trusts to use his power well.]
GPS coordinates? [It’s with a sigh that he texts back,] I’ve been to hundreds of worlds with hundreds of magicks. I should be able to do something.
No blowing it up.
no subject
Well if you insist on taking the fun out of it. Again, there's countless of the frosty devils here. Can you arrive with absolute subtlety, or should I send an escort for you? Give me your coordinates if it's the latter.
no subject
[And then literally appears a second later. He’s familiar enough with Fayren’s layout to know where to go based on coordinates and his own map. Uai hovers in the air, having teleported high up so as to avoid appearing on top of someone, and then gradually descends to Ted’s level.]
You’re worried about being subtle? [...] Describe what you’ve observed so far.
no subject
Yes, and more for your sake. They're all like-minded, acting in unison, and will attack all that moves. They've formed a perimeter around the aforementioned area, and I've made little headway. The abjuration is somewhat permeable, though I couldn't go very deep. Seems to be made of magically reforming rocks.
no subject
He lands in the snow, calmly accepting the threat of being attacked by a hoard of angry ice monsters. This is fine. Uai is already altering the gravity directly around him, to slow any physical attacks that may come his way.]
Unfortunately for them, they've made the mistake of attacking Fayren while Azura is its Guardian. Are you able to move quickly if I clear an opening?
