The Second Turn [anonymous text/video]

[anonymous text] Hollow Comfort

a question
by now many of you have realized your situation
and where we are and what this place is
so to those that have embraced this world:
what do you find worthy of your time?
how do you find meaning in this nothingness?
how can you say that helping someone is worth anything?
when they might not be here next week
right now i don't see the point in anything
and would like a different perspective

[video] When the Piper Seeks his Fee...

[Vaggie looks up on the camera as she sits on a bench in Everglade looking morose as usual. Beside her are a set of boxes and bags, and she seems to be peering soberly at the camera.]

Well, it finally happened. Those little red bills they gave me are finally down to the last few. And as charming as it is to sleep out in a back alley or under a newspaper in the park, I don't really find that all that appealing.

So, uh...

...yeah, I'm asking for a job. Not asking for much, but it does have to pay. I've done some bookkeeping stuff in the past, and maybe a few odd jobs here and there. Its not exactly like I have references. But if you have something or have heard of someone that is hiring, help a girl out? Thanks.

Oh, and if that job is Torchwood -- I'm not interested.

Let me know if you find one.

I've been here for years and haven't yet.

Some people cling to the "opportunity" of other worlds or fallen enemies. Fools.

[Well he is pretty tsundere... Emphasis on the first part.]

Motorcycles, drinking, reading.

There's not enough criminals to beat senseless, and the bounties are a joke.

Fuck no.

I used to be law enforcement. It's arguably an addiction.

And since that outs me to anyone who's been here long...

Baseball, other worlds' history and forms of government and justice, and I was given a few dogs, and a wolf pup, so I'm going to add working in a butcher shop to the occasional hours at the forge for compensating workaholicism since "beating the shit out of people here makes you the criminal, not justice."

Marines in my world are always called dogs of the world government. In particular I was called the Loose Hound and Wild Dog. It's embarrassing.

Yeah yeah. The other marines are gone now though, and I'm too masochistic not to be drawn to people who challenge my point of view.

Even the wolf is a fault of a fucking pirate.

So dogs aside, that's not universal.

No.

Because I'm an anti-social fuck-bastard who cares more about criminals than otherworldly natural disasters, and the girl who won is like my second in command back home so good with people but soft-hearted. Guardianship isn't a meritocracy based on fighting or strength of justice ideals but popularity. I don't think that's bad, I'm actually rather relieved, and I've seen how much worse physical prowess as a means of deciding authority is.
justicereigns: (That's the way it is)

Same.

But it's a little impossible to do it on merits alone. You can't test which ideas are better until they're put in place. At least it also beats bloodlines and "God told me so."

Even if you could run leadership simulations first, unpredictable events no one could account for, would still occur, so being able to adapt is also an important skill.

There's something to be said for popularity in that people work for bosses they like better and are happier. That doesn't make it more efficient, and it's still too much like pirates for me, but it's something.
