[It's been a few hours, which was ample time to give a new arrival to get a grasp on the situation. Or at least, for ones that don't scream and panic, or ignore that convenient apparition's explanation of the whole ordeal. He'd made a point to go straight to the Schnee Company building... and now he's pretty sick and tired of reading, but at least he had information. Now he's at a café with a cup of tea while he tinkers with this tomestone-esque device he found in that box. ... there was also a rather pudgy little friend under his chair. He knows he's turned on the audio, but he doesn't realize he's turned on the video, the device showing his uniformed visage to everyone.]

I would have been content to simply accept this "kidnapping" ordeal on its own and take things as they come, I can't say I appreciate being separated from my chocobo.

... but I suppose that's a complaint that'll fall on deaf ears. Not that I'm surprised.

[He's pretty annoyed by the whole thing. Although given his current situation at home, he isn't sure if he'd prefer this whole thing, or the one of having to aid his despised homeland. Tough choice, but then again, almost anywhere is better than Ishgard.]

Now, is it normal to find your name in records of a realm you're quite certain you've never been to? With my ordeal at home, being whisked away to a new realm and seeing your name thrown around like you were a local at some point doesn't inspire me with very much confidence.

[He pauses briefly.]

As for the other thing, you'll be surprised with how many places do know quite a lot about you. I'm just surprised its more than two.

[That's an odd question for him, but he supposes they are just local to Eorzea. And he did kind of grow up in the place that tamed the most of them.]

They're large yellow birds that can be used as mounts, or to pull carriages. People from other lands often refer to them as 'horsebirds' because of it.

So the cash I do have is completely useless. Gods damn it.

[Whichever of the Twelve tossed him over here must be having a laugh right now. But his furthered annoyance about the money situation is quickly replaced by the unease of the following statement.]

That... certainly doesn't fill me with confidence. Bein' known in one realm is bad enough. I ain't fond of the idea that more than one knows who I am.

[He's a little concerned about the idea of just saying who he is, but he can't exactly hide it forever. It was a little difficult for him not to be a little paranoid right now.]

Name's Gale Reinhardt. An adventurer from Eorzea.

Oh, there was a guy who had the same name as you. He was the Guardian of Nova City and he also danced in one of those adult places I'm not allowed to go to.

[Gale just stares blankly at the device. Did he hear that right?]

Guardian of Nova City? You mean one of those elected officials? Me?

[He wouldn't trust any kind of person in power as far as he could throw them. His time in Ishgard and Ul'dah sure soured his opinions of the higher ups. Then he lets the other part sink in.]

"Adult places?" You don't mean a brothel, do you?

[That one... at least sort of sounds like him. More than the 'guardian' thing, anyway.]

... [She sighs audibly and gives a nonchalant shrug. Just another lost soul far from home.]

So I take it you're new and settling in. I can imagine you have lots of questions. I can also imagine that you may want a moment to take it all in. [A moves up to her cheek pensively.] So where are you in your journey of figuring this shit out?

There are more things out there than I care to know at this stage.

[He is so super done with his life right about now. At least he's not drowning his sorrows in cheap ale. Tea will do.]

I've less than I arrived with, at the very least. I spent my first hours in the Schnee Company, but it's a shame such a wealth of knowledge couldn't answer all. That would be too easy.

I suppose at this moment, not knowing how long I'll remain here for, I need to adjust to this realm's way of life. I'm uncertain what use a place like this would have for an adventurer.

The other Gale Reinhardt was one. And I don't know if the adult place was a brothel or not. It's not like I went inside to look.

Now I'm really concerned about this 'other' Gale. If he still remained, I would almost believe that he might be a sylph posing as me.

[Wouldn't be the first time. But surely sylphs would have better things to do than screw with people here.]

Mayhaps I have to investigate this place for myself. For the sole purpose of retracing his steps, of course. I cannot deny that my curiosity for this "other Gale" is piqued.

[Yes, it is solely curiosity. Of course. That's all it is.]

If you go to the right stores, you can probably find a toy that looks like him. They make toys that look like all the Guardians and deputies.

Aye. Your typical run-of-the-mill adventurer, off to explore what the realm had to offer instead of sitting on my laurels in the shite hole I'm shamed to call my homeland.

[He should have left his Ishgard baggage at the Bay. People don't need to hear it.]

Unless this place has a primal problem, I may end up just playin' a harp in some tavern. I hope I can skip the 'errand boy' part of the title this time around.

...I may not have the right idea, but isn't adventuring something you do and not something you get paid for?

They build toys of the leaders here as well? How charming.

[He'll be sure to track one down. He wants to see for himself if this man had his likeness as well as his name.]

But with these frequent cycles and the changing of the guard, I have a hard time grasping how these guardians are capable of being skilled at their duty in such a short time.

We do get payment for doing the work that no one else in the realm can be arsed to do themselves. Which makes it truly ironic how some of the populace resents our presence yet are more than happy to put us to work for their own needs.

[He pauses briefly.]

It does help in my own case that I'm, shall we say, more "qualified" to face down larger threats to the populace than most other adventurers. But that mantle I will likely hang up, if these "Guardians" are capable of doing what they claim.

Sorry, what are you complaining about again? Got lost somewhere between the missing chocolate and the money.

[He didn't "get lost," or he wouldn't reply. The idea of two versions of the same person intrigues him, even if he's sure that's not the case. Still, can't hurt to get the guy to repeat himself.]

...yeah, I didn't have the right idea. So an adventuring job, huh. That's a good way of making something fun into work.


[Her shoulders slump as she considers what is being said.] But it sounds like you're little more than just somebody who runs around the countryside fixing what needs doing. The way you phrase it, you could be doing anything from bringing in the harvest to being a hired hit man.

As for the guardians, they're dubiously good at their jobs. Some are very attentive and others aren't. Its a case-by-case basis, really.

Oh, I have a lot to complain about. Do you want the list?

[Not that he would supply one. He wouldn't put anyone through the sheer amount of bitching he's got in his system right about now.]

I think you're the one who's lost me this time. I didn't say anything about missing chocola- [He stops himself.] Oh. No. Not chocolate. Chocobo. It's a bird.

Perhaps not quite as far as a hit man so much as a hired monster hunter, but that is the gist of it. Though I would dare not attempt any such hunting here, at least not until I'm more familiar with this place. I feel that would only cause unwarranted trouble in Everglade. It sounds as if it has quite enough without an overenthusiastic adventurer in its midst.

[He frowns.]

I do have my concerns regarding the system in place. It seems quite like something that could be easily abused. Seems I had quite the timing to show up when this next round of elections is happening.

[Not where Uai wanted the elaboration, but he does like birds. Now he's disappointed that this Chocobo isn't here.]

Sure, a list. Let's start with the top and work down. I've got time.

That's... decent of you, actually. [As a tenant of the Everglade, she's more than happy to see fair-minded monster hunters.]

Yeah the elections are a thing. And, uh, word of warning, if you see the skeleton, turn down your volume. Trust me on this.

[Orlok is a good boy and doesn't deserve to be separated from his partner like this. It's a tragedy. Although Gale does scoff, he shakes his head.]

It would take far too long to go over. I wouldn't wish to subject that to anybody.

[He probably should at least clarify the part between the chocobo and the gil though.]

But my puzzlement lies in the fact that amidst my reading to learn of this place, I had seen my name turn up a number of times. That hardly makes sense, seeing that I've never seen this place before in my life.
