2nd Thread - [Video to Action]
[Vaggie's number gets a ping with this post. Itherael looks tense, keeping a firm hold on the Scroll of Fate. The camera picks up most of their body and wings - their device is floating a little ways before them.]
Greetings. I come with a message of truce.
[In other words, please don't hang up immediately like Papyrus warned you might.]
I am the archangel Itherael. Our mutual acquaintance, Papyrus, made mention of you, and vice versa. It is my understanding that you reacted to this with apprehension. I did as well.
Though there may be differences between our realms, it seems that neither of us have had good relation with the each other's races in the past. The angels and demons of my world have been at war for millennia. However, when I arrived here, it was made clear that grievances are to be set aside for the betterment of Genessia. This is the intention of my message: to arrange for us to meet and put into words an agreement of peace and non-aggression. We will swear not to act against the other, so long as there are no actions or schemes that would break the agreement.
...This is not easy for me. I imagine it will not be for you either. Papyrus has volunteered for us to use his home as a neutral ground, with his supervision. He will be serving a food called "spaghetti", though I do not eat, myself.
I hope to hear from you to make the necessary arrangements. It would be very, as Papyrus would say, "cool" of you. Oh, and for both of us, might I enquire as to your name?
[The emphasis on "hope" is a little subconscious; it's the main thing fueling them here. Itherael nods.] Farewell.

It is commendable of you to seek a peaceful solution to what sounds to be a tense situation.
[She pauses thoughtfully for a moment.]
I have heard of angels, but not of archangels. I am curious to learn more, if you are willing to teach, or have someone to speak with for an outsiders perspective.
I am willing. I cannot speak for the nature of other worlds, only my own. Archangels are the highest ranking of all the angels of the High Heavens. We are all born from the harmony and light of the Crystal Arch. When the harmony is perfect, the angel that emerges is an archangel, possessing greater abilities and strength.
I see...I believe that is different than the angels of my galaxy. What you tell me is rather magical. Do you lead or represent the lower ranked angels?
Angels are created into one of five domains: Hope, Justice, Wisdom, Valor, and Fate. As the Aspect of Fate, I lead all other Fate angels.
Could you tell me of the angels of your universe?
I see. Do you have the ability to control fate on your world?
[Padmé takes a moment to think, memories skirting over the source of where she'd heard about them in favor of any facts.]
I do not know much. They keep to their own world, though traders who travel there speak of their extraordinary beauty.
I see. It seems that, despite some differences between realms, many of the same beings exist across the expanse of time and space. How fascinating...
I like that idea. Every universe deserves to have beauty!
...Hardly. Both my sight and the Scroll only pertain to angels and demons of my own realm, and interactions with other beings interfere. If you wish to know your own fate, I cannot help you.
[More happy wing ripples.] I agree with you. May that be true of Genessia as well. You are beginning to remind me of my sister, Auriel. She is the Aspect of Hope.
[audio]
[She had no intention of going down without a fight.]
[So, the first move was made, and the fact that it was a video made it convenient. She scoured it over and over, trying to find something useful for her to use. They were definitely an angel, and she had no doubt that an archangel meant that they would have no issues bring her down. They had absolutely no reason to reach out to her like this. So why go through the effort?]
[She knew that this confrontation was going to happen one way or another. Out on the street or here, whether or not they could coexist was going to be something that only now would decide. After watching and rewatching it several times, she finally decides to open a channel.]
Give me one good reason why I should trust you.
[audio]
[No. For the moment - for this individual, at least - Itherael must try and convince themselves not to think that way.]
Papyrus will act as a mediator. I will come unarmed. As the Aspect of Fate, overt aggression is not in my nature. [They aren't really sure what else there is to offer.]
I understand. I cannot say that I trust you either. I have never lived in a world where there is peace, and I doubt your experience was different. Perhaps, if we take this chance, something better may come of it.

I see nothing in this for you. You're an archangel and I'm a pretty low-level demon. Why are you even bothering?
And why are you asking? If you're Fate, you should know what I'm going to do.
no subject
My sight does not see single certainties, but the paths of possibilities. However, neither my sight nor the Scroll are clear anymore. Talus'ar - the Scroll - contains the fates of demons and angels from my realm, and them alone. Interactions with beings outside of these races changes the patterns of fate in ways I cannot predict.
I am without guidance on this matter. Unless you hail from my world, what you do is unknowable to me.
My duties in the High Heavens consisted of observation, and little else. I followed the paths of fate I believed would serve my kind best. I was not called to action unless necessary. This message, this meeting...I have never done anything like this before. But if I am to be a part of Genessia, I will strive to do right by it, even if I am...guessing.
[Sure, Itherael outguns Vaggie, but what they stand to gain is something more soulful - to nourish hope, and the first seed of confidence that only making your own decisions can bring.]
no subject
[But she knew she can't. Not for the sake of diplomacy, no, fuck that. She owed nothing to Itherael, and she most certainly owed nothing to Papyrus. She also couldn't care less about maintaining good angel-demon relations. You don't go from experiencing what she did in Hell to suddenly coexisting. Their worlds were literally too far apart.]
[There was only one reason why she would even bother: the possibility that someday SHE may arrive. They'll both need to know how things stand with angels among them. And between the two of them, Vaggie would gladly face oblivion if it meant that SHE wouldn't.]
...alright. Let me do a few things first.
Where does he live?
[She never bothered figuring that out.]
no subject
I SENT YOU BOTH A PING! THE SPAGHETTI WILL BE PIPING HOT BY THE TIME YOU ARRIVE!!
[Sure enough, their phones register the "neutral ground".]
no subject
I am glad to hear this. I shall arrive soon, Papyrus.
[Oh boy, that means actually meeting the demon soon, too. Well, Itherael is about as ready as they'll ever be.]
Oh, and...demon? We still do not know your name.
no subject
[...she doesn't want to. But she will. For the sake of diplomacy, for HER, she will.]
Its Vaggie.
I will be there soon.
Video - Action (at least for him)
[Time to set the scene. The apartment's living room, the centerpiece of the promising, peaceful exchange, was immaculate. Cleaning is one of the few things Papyrus does competently. The dust was vanquished. Clutter is as unwelcome as his two guests aren't. The wood on the humble table was polished to a shine. All was spick and span, and, somehow, he believed Vaggie would appreciate it just as much as the order-loving angel. How could she not?
It looked like they'd be coming around the eleventh hour, when Rowan was out, meaning it'd be just the three of them. He set the tablecloth, each fold equidistant from the rest, with the edges a tasteful foot from the ground. He put the plates and silverware just so. As he delicately laid the final fork, a ding alerted him. The pasta was done! The best one could say about it was that it looked appetizing. Alas, some things appeal in appearance alone.
Two seats nestled nicely under the table, diametrically opposed. He wondered whether Itherael, so fond of floating, would use it. Would Vaggie have to crane her neck too much to speak at eye level? Should he get a telephone book to boost the shortie?
Ah, there's no time! They might arrive any minute! He rushed out the door, then stood in front of that portentious portal with a smile so bright and constant, it could rival the sun.
This night may be his greatest achievement yet!]
Action (at least for him)
[The footsteps stop outside of the door, then come three, methodical knocks. When the door opens, Papyrus will find Itherael, bending to the side so they can peer within.]
Greetings.
no subject
[Her breath seizes when she sees the angel about to enter. They didn't seem to notice her yet. Vaggie grimaced. Taking a deep breath she confidently strode forward. She wasn't about to show him how scared she really was.]
Ithereal. [Her fingers clenched tight, ready on a moment's notice to reach for the knives she had on her. She knew it wouldn't help, but they would make her feel better.]

WELCOME TO ROWAN'S APARTMENT: HOME OF THE GREAT PAPYRUS!! AT LEAST FOR NOW!! FIRST STEP: INTRODUCTIONS! EXPERT TIP: START WITH AN INTERESTING TIDBIT!
[He probably should've read before, but...]
ITHERAEL, THIS IS VAGGIE! DID YOU KNOW SHE STARTED AN EYEPATCH CLUB? KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR NEW MEMBERS, NYEH HEH HEH!
[One ninety degree turn later.]
VAGGIE, THIS IS ITHERAEL!! HE ACTUALLY IS HIS ARMOR! ISN'T THAT COOL!?
[She can't say it isn't.]
MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME! BATHROOM'S AROUND THE HALL, FIRST DOOR ON YOUR LEFT!!
[He gestured at the table where his edible-looking spaghetti sat, waiting. Tempting.]
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M READY TO GET THIS DIPLOMATIZING STARTED!!!
no subject
[A moment passes after Papyrus finishes, then the angel nods slowly.] Vaggie. I am glad you came despite your concerns. These negotiations will be mutually beneficial.
[Itherael turns back to the doorway - oh yeah, it's really small. (For them.) With a resigned flicker in their wing tips, they tuck into the door, hood down and elbows in. They could shapeshift to a smaller size, but after getting along without doing so for centuries, they seem to take the (figurative) grin and bear it approach.]
[So, in they go, light wing tendrils trailing behind them. Itherael approaches the table and looks back, waiting on Vaggie and Papyrus to join them.]
no subject
[Her eye ventured around the room with notable indifference. Her gaze went to the setting of the table. Two chairs set facing each other with some spaghetti in the middle. Was this a peace treaty or a blind date? Her eye rolls hard at the bowl of spaghetti set between them. Yes, it looked edible, but she was already starting to come up with excuses to politely decline. 'I already ate,' was just beating out 'I had a tapeworm removed earlier and am not feeling well.']
[Regardless, she was not going to run out so decided to take the first step, taking a seat in one of the chairs while keeping an eye on the... divine entity in the room. She coughs to release some nerves.] So, what is there to negotiate? You called me out, the least you can do is start off by saying what the hell you have in mind.
no subject
THE ONLY HELL WE'LL BE HAVING IS HELLO'S!
[But that's a low-tier curse, at worst. He knows that at some point he'll have to leave them alone and let them hash it out. Probably after this!]
A PEACE TREATY, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN! AND I'M NOT! SINCE YOU TWO AREN'T ON THE BEST TERMS, THE SCENE'S SET FOR YOU TO TALK AND HANG OUT UNTIL YOU ARE!! GOOD LUCK! ONCE YOU'RE DONE I'LL BE BACK FOR MEDIATION AND DRAFTING!!
[Then he makes his exit
by jumping out a window, but not before clandestinely setting up his video phone to record the proceedings. Best home movie ever.]no subject
[So here they are, an angel and a demon alone in a room together. There's an anxious twitch in the tendrils of their wings, for those discerning enough to notice it.]
Papyrus was correct - I wish to negotiate some sort of understanding between our races that will maintain the peace here. I do not assume this will come easily to either of us. The demons of my realm have committed terrible atrocities towards angels and humans alike. I watched the Prime Evil invade the High Heavens and begin corrupting the Crystal Arch. My brethren falling...
[Itherael takes a moment to recollect themselves.]
But it has been made clear to me that angels have committed terrible deeds of our own, if not by my kin, then by the angels of other worlds. Genessia is meant to be a common ground for all beings from all universes, and if I can, I would keep it that way. Whatever comes of today, know this, Vaggie the demon: you need not fear me, lest you seek to harm others first.
no subject
[Then her attention went to his words, and she couldn't help but feel the weight they carried. This being really wanted some bride of accommodation: some common ground. As she heard them speak, a weight came to her stomach. WHoooa boy, this was going to get worse before it gets better...]
Here's the tiniest violin for your fallen friends. We've all had people that we lost. That sort of suffering and loss is not unique to you.
[Blah, she couldn't help her bitterness come out. She takes a deep breath.]
But I don't want to give you the wrong idea. I am a demon, but I can only speak for myself. Most of us are psychotic, wrathful, blood-thirsty, depressed, depraved, detestable, maladjusted, addicted, stupid, slutty, sex-crazed, sycophantic, sinister, and slothful. They're murders, thieves, harlots, prostitutes, lawyers, corrupt politicians, rapists, traffickers, jaw-walkers, peeping toms, drunk drivers, racists, and porn fiends. You have every right to find us vile, because we choose to live like this and we will forever be entrapped by our vices. We're called sinners for a reason.
So... don't expect this to be some kind of lasting peace treaty for all demons. Pretty much all of us shouldn't be trusted. At all.
(not here mostly)
Fingers crossed; he's all nerves.]
no subject
[But there's no given answer to this. Vaggie is entirely right. Why should any demons be willing to make peace or compromise? Why is Itherael wasting everyone's time?]
[The silence carries on as the angel considers, anxious and tense, longing for guidance that won't come.]
I have never done anything like this before. [Honesty is the best policy, though that statement is probably obvious.] I mean only to do right by this place we've been brought to. There is so much here I do not understand...
But I do understand demons. You are right about their nature. And, in turn, there are angels who would not be so willing to even attempt negotiation. Perhaps all we are able to do is make a pact of peace between ourselves. You and I. It is not much, but is it not more than what existed beforehand?
[They pause briefly as something comes to mind.] Tell me, Vaggie, why did you come here if you did not think anything would come of it?
no subject
[Her gaze droops and buries itself into the spaghetti.] Honestly, I should be asking you the same question. You're the first angel that has even tried to talk to one of us. Dunno if that makes you weird or stupid. Probably both.
[Her gaze returns to Itherael.]
I'm here because I figured this was going to happen whether I wanted to or not. If this is going to end in a fight, if you are going to off me, then this is the time to do it. I don't look for trouble, but I'm not going to run if it comes either. I dunno if you speak for the other angels here, or... if you're just you, but one way or another I'm going to find out if this is going to go with both of us going our separate ways or what.
[Frankly, that's the best that she could see come out of this. At worst, she gets off and her warning to Charlie gets through. For right now they're talking. That was something at least.]
yet more thrilling introspection
Still, he's very proud of them for avoiding murder thus far. Papyrus watched her eyes go towards the proffered plate. Yes, that's it. He willed her to partake.
Don't worry, one day soon Itherael will get a different boss altogether.]no subject
[The flow of Itherael’s wings takes on a quizzical quirk.] Much of what you said is unknown to me. Though my brother, Imperius, leads the Angiris Council currently, we operate as one, in unity.
[Supposedly.]I have no “boss.”[Yet.]As for demons, they come from Hell. Though humans can be corrupted, true demons originate from that infernal place. [They’re about to explain in more detail, but that’s not the point of this meeting. Nor is it what’s really what’s on the angel’s mind; they’ll come back to that.]
I am not stupid. [That’s the most defensive Itherael’s sounded this whole time.] Though I will agree that this is unusual. As I have said before, I am trying to do right by this place and its ways. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with warnings not to declare some sort of dominance over Genessia, as other divine beings had done in the past. That is not my intention. Regardless of how many of us this agreement may affect, I hope to prove that.
[They’re about to finish and let Vaggie speak her next piece, but there’s that question they can’t quite shake. So instead, this is how they end this round…] Vaggie…were you human once?
no subject
[Nor did she know them to be liars. Inflexibly judgemental and militantly devout, but never liars.]
[Her gaze returns to Itherael, returning the quizzical quirk with a searching stare. Nothing to it but to see where this leads.]
Yeah. And you're not used to that?
no subject
If she'd mentioned it he could've tried capturing her!So he'd seen a human his first day after all! Sort of. The plot thickens...]no subject
[All right, Itherael's going to try not to lore dump too hard.]
I will elaborate. Eons ago, the diamond warrior Anu fought with the dragon Tathamet. They slew each other in combat. Tathamet's rotting body became the Burning Hells, from which demons spawn. Each of its seven heads became the demon lords. In turn, a piece of Anu became the Crystal Arch, which creates angels from its harmonic resonance.
Humans did not come into being for many millennia. Though potentially corruptible, they have no part in the creation of demons. How is it, then, that a human might become a demon?
no subject
[Groan. Huff.]
Soo, I wasn't there, but the story goes that the god of all things created everything, including humans. In the beginning, everything was great and they were given a place in paradise. God had one rule: don't eat from the apple of knowledge. Which, of course, humans fucked up.
Since then people were expelled from paradise. From there they had two choices. They could live good lives and make things up with God, or live lives where they fall to their vices and go against the rules. Or, so it is said. I can't talk about the first part. But I can definitely tell that when you fuck up enough you get a one-way express ticket to Hell. Mortal souls become demons, and try to one up each other. There's also the ancient demons -- the angels that turned away from god because humans were god's favorite but the angels were made first.
no subject
[One thing that does stand out: Vaggie is a demon, and its her own fault. She earned her punishment, at least in the eyes of her world's ruling deity. When she spoke of the sins of demons, she didn't just speak of their nature, but of the vices that made them demons - including her own. She chose this path.]
[And yet, she came here all the same. For all the wickedness and hostility within her, she seemed certain Itherael would start a fight first. It's a lot for an angel's mind, so used to order and the unchanging, to contemplate. But after all of their thinking, they come back around to where this whole thing started.]
Do you want peace between the two of us, Vaggie?
[Private action w/ Present Mic]
[Once found, she approaches him with a dark countenance. Which... isn't unusual, but this time the look was more... directed.]
Hey... I need to ask you a favor.
no subject
Heeeey what's up, Vaggie? What kind of favor? I'm all ears.
no subject
I just got a new job with the bookstore in Everglade. They're doing the usual bullshit with new employees. Orientation, trust falls, friendship circles, all that crap. It makes me wanna puke.
I'll probably be out through the weekend. So, like, if a girl ever goes up on the channel named Charlie shows up on the comm and I'm not around, can you give her this? [She extends a small key for him.] It goes to the dresser in my room.
And if I find out you opened it, I'll kick your ass so hard you'll need to use a tube to poop.
Question of clarification - if you work this out, is that only with demons, or are devils included? Or, ah, partial ones of either group?
As to the agreement...I do not see why it shouldn't. It is, essentially, a pact of non-aggression.
((OOC: The only use of the word "devil" that I could find in reference to the Diablo games is a sword called Devil's Tongue. So it seems like devils aren't separate from demons/"devil" isn't really used much. I hope this, and Itherael's response, makes sense.))
no subject
[ She gives a faint shrug of one shoulder and the smallest bit of a smirk crosses her face. ]
Just wanted to be clear, y'know, so there wasn't any room for loopholes. Appreciate the clarification.
no subject
You refer to "partial" beings from either group. Are you a nephalem?
no subject
[ Probably not as subtle with that cutting tone as she'd like, but bitterness gonna bitter. ]
I've not heard the term before - I'm a tiefling, meaning someone further back in the family decided to screw around with some manner of hell denizen, and I got lucky enough that some traits manifested in me generations later.
no subject
I see. I have not heard of a tiefling before, though they do not sound far removed from nephalem. They are the offspring of angels and demons, possessing power greater than either. For some time, the nephalem's strength was subdued, and they became humans. But now, those restrictions have been broken, and the power of their heritage returns to humanity.
video;
[Bevause, in all honesty, he would never put it past them.]
video;
[They pause for a moment, considering what's really being said here.]
I am beginning to see that we angels have made a reputation of being quick to judge, as you are not the first to make such remarks. We are supposed to be defenders of good and order. I would keep it that way here, if I can, without falling into self-righteousness. One of the clauses for myself will be to warn everyone if a more aggressive angel from my realm should come to Genessia.
video;
[They do have their limits, he knows that much at least.]
