[Ace is leaning back in his chair, visibly pleased at the company. He's so glad for the chance to spend time with his brother again.]

I've been here before, just not with them. I figured it was time to change that.

[Sabo, slightly less punctual than he probably should be, heads inside of the restaurant and literally beams when he spots the table with his brothers and Jinbei. He makes his way over to the chair next to Ace and props his chin with his hands, elbows on the table.]

I'm so excited! This is exciting!

[He'll calm down -- eventually.]

[Jinbei's glad to have finally gotten a seat - he arrived before Sabo, but most places aren't prepared for the sort of ten-foot-tall people that are relatively commonplace in their world, let alone one of Jinbei's stature. Still, he understands the situation of the staff, and he's been apologizing a lot of the time.]

Glad to see you're all excited! Hopefully I'm not intruding on this reunion. [He may not be aware of all of the details about their past, but he knows that Sabo's like a brother to both of them.]

No! You're nakama, you belong here too.

( He pulls a scowl for all of a split second; then it turns into a huge grin. He even bounces in his seat. )

I wanna know everything you guys have been up to here!!

( And it's only been a minute or two, but ... )

And I wanna know where the server person is too ...

Everyone that's here belongs. That's just how it is. [Ace offers Jinbei a grin, and goes back to focusing on Luffy as he bounces in his seat.] Can't even stay still now, huh? You're still acting like a kid.

[What to say, though? Ace doesn't know where to start.] Um... [Some of it he doesn't know if he wants to talk about.] I got a couple of part time jobs. And made some friends. Got a new tattoo too. And I think that's the server over there. [Ace waves at the server, and then huffs as they haul it right past their table.] The nerve. [Their food needs come first, obviously.] Hey, Sabo. What have you done since you've showed up?

[He actually sighs a little at that question, because he -- hasn't done that much. But Ace knows more than anyone else here why that would be.

He just decides on saying the first thing that comes to mind:]

Writing. I've been writing a lot, actually. Oh, back before I arrived here, I was working on a story about Luffy! But I lost it from the move.

[He was hoping it'd be a best seller, too.]

[Jinbei grins at Ace, pleased at his remark.] Heh, that's a relief. I'm glad to hear it. [It feels great to be part of a crew again - he was glad to see his faction of the Sun Pirates return to normal lives and leave piracy behind them, at least for a little while, but part of him wanted to get out there and make a difference in the world.]

I've been keeping busy - mostly working with Namur at Jolly Eddy's. I'm basically a bodyguard for hire. [He's not going to called it an "escort service"; Namur's teased him enough about that as-is.]

( Luffy orders dish after dish from the server, looking over the menu; he's pretty much just choosing whatever looks good ... Which is just about everything. How much money did they give him again ... ?

When they part after taking the orders down, Luffy has a grin that just won't quit. Any Ace is a good Ace but an alive and chill Ace seems to be the best. He hasn't changed, it seems.

Sabo's writing, and that makes Luffy happy. Even if they're not supposed to be here, the fact that Sabo can engage in this hobby makes him feel a little better about the strange place they find themselves in.

Jinbei, too, seems to fit in here. Bodyguard is fitting, for the time being. And he seems to be somewhat used to the life around this city, so Luffy has to wonder about leaving. )

How long have you guys been here ... ? It's like you're really settling down.

[Ace is glad they were able to actually get a server to come to them, especially after the first one pretty much ignored him when he waved for them. He's so hungry. He orders a generous portion of food, a appetizer platter meant to serve four, but it's still nothing like Luffy orders though. That's a lot of food. And he's stating to think he's going to have to cover part of his little brother's share of it.

Damn. But whatever, it's not like he's actually having to work to earn his money at this point. So there's no better way to waste it than to spend it on his brothers.]

I've been here since early April. [Settling down, yeah. He's ended up very comfortable and domestic at this point.] It's not hard to just settle here. It's not like back home. You're probably gonna want to get a job from Namur. I don't work for him like Jinbei does, but I pick up shifts when I'm needed. I don't see you doing well at a regular job.

[Sabo makes a point to interject and order some tea for himself to drink before their server walks away. He doesn't want to have any alcohol right now; not that he particularly thinks that he'll get drunk easily, he just doesn't want to even risk it at all. The last thing he needs is to spew out the terrible things that had happened to him in the past seven months to his other brother.

But when Luffy asks how long everyone's been here, he finds himself fidgeting just a little, toying with the end of one glove. It's be an excellent opportunity to spill that information out, but he doesn't want to. Ever. It's awful, what he'd been through. Best to just move on as quickly and smoothly as he can.]

I've been here at least twice, supposedly. I don't really remember being here in April, but Ace said I was. [He pauses.] But I just arrived again, and I'm looking to have a small vacation before I get back to working full-time.

[Jinbei sticks with tea as well, ordering an assorted fruit appetizer to balance out all of the meat dishes that Luffy's ordering. He'd gladly pay for Luffy's portion if needed; he considers it his duty as a member of Luffy's crew to help him out, seeing as his captain just got here. At least Jinbei knows what he's getting into in this case, unlike when he tried to show Luffy where things were on a map - he's seen Luffy eat before.]

I've been here... [He stops to think about that one.] Huh. Nearly a year now, I guess. I've been told that time works weirdly here - not quite sure what it means, but from the sounds of it, it ain't like I'm going to go home and find out I vanished for a few months.

( All of that ... sure is hard to wrap his head around. Luffy just takes it in, quiet in his contemplation. He drums his fingers on the table, worrying at his lip some.

Jinbei says he's not about to go home and that's all he can think about for a few beats. At Ace's suggestion, he realizes that they're sort of all resigned to their situation. )

A whole year, huh ...

( That's ... hard. His crew is elsewhere and he can't be with them ... He almost lost Sanji, and now they're apart again. )

Eeeh. I'll focus on what I can do here for now!

( He can't stay down for long; at least he isn't completely alone ... )

[Ace's expression lights up at Luffy's acceptance of the situation. In his own way, of course. Which means he's pretty much owning the situation and doing things his way. And that's exactly how it should be.]

You'll be fine. There's always something to do here. I'll help you out if you need it. We all will. [But Luffy isn't complacent, he'll succeed here. Probably better than Ace has.] But you probably won't need any.

[Something comes to mind suddenly.] Jinbei, Smoker told me that the treehouse was still here. Do you know where it is?

[He nods at pretty much everything he hears, though the line from Ace about Luffy potentially not needing help is what finally makes him pipe up again.]

You'll be fine, I'm sure.

[Confident in how his brother could do pretty much anything so long as he was determined, Sabo relaxes a bit in his seat, his expression calm and warm. The tea he'd ordered is in front of him and he proceeds to add a small amount of sugar as Jinbei is asked that question.]

I hope it is around. I need a place to live. [He'll actually snort at that, since he thinks what he'd said was a little amusing. Living there as a twenty-three year old man may not really be ideal, but the memories and happiness it'd bring may be worth it.]

[Jinbei shakes his head at that question.] This is the first that I've heard of it, I'm afraid.

[Still, it might help to have some kind of goal to work towards. Even if it's short term, he doesn't want to wind up complacent in this place.] Maybe we could go looking for it once we're done here?

Tree house?

( The pause is brief. )

Let's go find it! When we're done here. Sabo you can stay with me!!

( Jinbei and Ace certainly have places of their own, which is fine. Ace and Luffy -- and Sabo -- never seemed to be destined to be in the same crew or anything similar, so just having him in the same city would be comfy and close enough. )

Where are you two staying ... ?

( As though place names would mean anything to him ... )

Yeah, it'll be an adventure. I think he said it was on the beach. So maybe if I text him I can get more to go on.

[And he does that quickly, firing off a quick text for more information, so if nothing else he'll be able to make things quicker during their search. They don't need the extra help, honestly. There are some good minds at this table so they'll figure out the location of the tree house with or without assistance in the form of directions to a specific place.

Being asked about where he's staying makes Ace pause for a moment though. Ace knows damn well that this is an easy question, and that it shouldn't be this nerve wracking. But it is, and even if he doesn't say it today, the truth is not going to stay hidden. And he really doesn't want it to stay hidden. Ace doesn't like lying, especially to Luffy.

Time to test the waters. If Luffy responds well, it'll make things easier. He'd rather have Luffy hear about this from him than from the rumor mill.] I live with Smoker in Fayren. [There. Easily said, easily done.] Jinbei, where are you staying?

[Sabo doesn't have a lot to add to this conversation right now. He's going to continue sipping his drink, his eyes darting between his two brothers. Because he's genuinely curious if Luffy picks up on where Ace is living. If there's no reaction at all, he'd be surprised, but he isn't going to force one. He'd much rather this be easy and pain-free, really. When he'd found out about who Ace was dating, it didn't take long for him to understand and ultimately be happy that he'd found someone. Even if he himself still doesn't get along with his brother's boyfriend that well. Small steps, though.

Eventually, he'll shift a little in his seat, but he still doesn't speak.]

[Namur had brought up Ace's odd choice of roommate, but Jinbei couldn't judge him for it - strange situations make for strange alliances. Admittedly, he wasn't aware of all of the details, but it wouldn't bother him even if he was.]

I'm in Everglade. It's the place with the zombies, werewolves, and whatnot. Figured I should pick somewhere that's close to work.

Smoker?

( Luffy cocks his head some. Last he remembered, Smoker was at the Summit War, which hurts to recall ... And before that, Ace fought him off before in Alabasta.

And Jinbe's statement just plain excites and bewilders him both. )

Zombies? Werewolves?!

( How exciting this place is ... ! It really seems as though there's no shortage of work and play ... He bounces in his seat yet again. )

It's like this place has everything, huh ... Sabo, what do you get up to? I bet you kick their asses.

( He'd noticed his older brotherhas stayed silent, after all. )

Yeah. Look, we'll talk about that later. I'd still be careful about who you hang out with, but a lot of the time what happened back home isn't so big a deal here.

[He might as well just use Luffy's excitement to shift the conversation back to Jinbei. And buy himself more time to figure out how to talk to Luffy about this, without causing problems or stressing himself out too much. He gets why this was upsetting to some of the people in his life, Smoker isn't particularly pleasant and he was a strong enemy back home. So he'll allow himself to wimp right out of talking about this, even if testing the waters was his intention.

Besides, if it ruins the meal, it'd be his fault, so this gives him another good excuse to not go further.]

There's dragons in Genessia too! It really does have everything. [Ace hasn't gotten to see any dragons in person, but they show up on the contacts from time to time and that's fun for him.]

[He locks onto Luffy to watch his reaction, and it's a little less boisterous than he'd expected. So, he smiles and nods, still casually sipping his drink.

But then, Luffy asks him something and he shifts, setting his cup back down onto the table.]

I'm still just writing off and on. Though, I have been itching for a fight to practice some things. [Specifically, the Fruit's abilities.] I could burn a zombie or two, if I run into any. [His smile widens, and he diverts his attention over to Ace. Did he say -- dragons?]

Dragons? Where? Actual, live dragons? [He's actually bouncing a little in his seat, as well. Because the notion of seeing an actual dragon here is amazing!] I want to see one! We should all go and see one!
