Joe McCool is ready to become the greatest NPC Pokemon trainer! The first thing he does is head to Professor Teak's lab to pick up his GenessiaDex, a starter Pokemon, and some PokeBalls. He picks Charmander, and receives a Level 5 Charmander to start his day. The mod rolls to determine the Pokemon's gender, nature, and whether or not it's a shiny. Joe's Charmander is male, has a naive nature, and is sadly not shiny at all. Next, the mod rolls to determine which six PokeBalls Joe starts with. He gets 2 PokeBalls, 2 Great Balls, and 2 Ultra Balls. Pretty darn good! At this point, Joe can choose to use up any of those PokeBalls to level up his Charmander, and since he doesn't expect to be able to handle a lot of Pokemon on his first day, he uses up his two normal PokeBalls to boost Charmander to 7. Charmander learns Ember at level 7, so he's glad to know he's got a Fire move at his disposal. Now he's ready to make his first search request!
Joe decides he wants to investigate Attleton and see what Pokemon he can find there, so he makes this search request:
JOE MCCOOL - July 1st
1. Pokeballs: 2 Great Balls, 2 Ultra Balls
2. City: Attleton
3. Party
A. Charmander - 7 - Scratch, Growl, Ember
4. Instructions: Run if my Pokemon can't possibly win. If Charmander can win a fight, use the Great Balls first before using the Ultra Balls. Will capture any Pokemon unless it's Dunsparce. Will give new instructions after first capture.
5. Level Up: Used 2 PokeBalls to level up Charmander from 5 to 7.
The mod rolls up Joe's first encounter. It's a Level 3 male Seedot! Charmander's got a fire move, so this is an easy win, and Charmander maintains full health. It also rises to Level 9. Now to attempt a capture!
1st Great Ball...success!
That went well for Joe. He receives his Seedot which has 1 HP, a naive nature, and knowing the moves Bide and Harden. Since he indicated he wanted to decide what to do after his first capture, the mod asks what he'd like to do next. Joe decides to go again since Charmander is still healthy and he's got more PokeBalls to spare, and says the same instructions apply for this round as well.
The mod rolls up Joe's second encounter. Whoa, it's a rare Dhelmise! But it's Level 41 and there's no way Charmander can compete, even if a fire type has an advantage over a grass type. He uses up one of his three opportunities to flee the encounter, and the mod rolls up a third encounter. This time it's a Level 1 female Oddish, which is way easier to fight. Charmander wins without breaking a sweat, leveling up to 11 (and learning Smokescreen), while Seedot gains one level to Level 4 as well just for being in the party, and is now at 2 HP. Now to attempt a capture!
2nd Great Ball...success!
Oddish starts off knowing Absorb and Growth, and has a mild nature. Joe's on a roll and decides to give Attleton another go with the same instructions!
The mod rolls up Joe's fourth encounter. It's a level 15 Stufful! Unfortunately, Joe's party's combined strength wouldn't be enough to win. Charmander could deal 11 damage before it was KO'd, Seedot could deal 2 damage, and Oddish could deal 1. That's a total of 14, but a level 15 Stufful has 15 HP, and none of Joe's Pokemon have any moves that are super effective against Normal or Fighting types. He uses his second escape option, and the mod rolls up a fifth encounter. It's a level 84 Tropius! That's a big nope, so Joe flees a third time. Since he didn't indicate that he wanted to quit after using up all three of his chances to flee, it's time for one more encounter. It's a level 12 Seedot! Joe didn't say anything about what to do if encountering a duplicate Pokemon, so the mod assumes he wants this one. Charmander can defeat it even though it's one level lower because Ember is good against grass Pokemon, so it deals 16 damage instead of the 11 that would normally match its level. Seedot is defeated! Charmander rises to level 13, Seedot rises to Level 5 (now at 3 HP), and Oddish rises to level 2 (now at 2 HP). Pokeball go!
1st Ultra Ball...success!
Welp, now Joe's got two Seedots. This one's a lot stronger than his other one, so he decides he'll offer up the lower-level Seedot in a trade to someone else later. For now, might as well see if he can't use that last Ultra Ball, so he asks for just one more encounter.
The mod rolls up Joe's final encounter for the day. It's a level 64 Carnivine! Joe used up all his escape attempts, so unfortunately for him and his party, they get soundly thrashed and have to call it quits.
At the end of the day, Joe's got one Ultra Ball left (which he decides to save for tomorrow), and since he knows he'll want to evolve Oddish eventually with either a Leaf Stone or a Sun Stone, he calculates how many points he's got:
Charmander (Uncommon) - Level 13 = 2x13 = 26 points
Seedot (Common) - Level 5 = 1x5 = 5 points
Oddish (Uncommon) - Level 2 = 2x2 = 4 points
Seedot (Common) - Level 12 = 1x12 = 12 points
TOTAL POINTS = 49
Almost enough to buy a lottery ticket, but not quite. And he's still a long ways off from being able to buy an evolution stone! Nonetheless, that's a good start for Joe's first day. Once he trades his low-level Seedot, he won't have those 5 points anymore, but he might get something better in return. He can't wait to go explore another city tomorrow with his loyal team of Pokemon!
(frozen comment) Tohru Honda - July 5th
2. City: Attleton
3. Party
A. TURTWIG / Level 11 / Tackle, Withdraw, Absorb
4. Instructions: Tohru is taking the 4th off because of job hunting~! Come the 5th, she will once again search quite casually. In fact, she will only try to encounter a maximum of two Pokemon today. If they're too high leveled, she will simply flee with Turtwig. If a capture comes up, she will prioritize the Ultra Ball and Great Balls.
5. Level Up: Remaining Poke Balls / Great Balls spent to level up Turtwig~! Ultra Balls will be saved for catching.
(frozen comment) Re: Tohru Honda - July 5th
Tohru next encounters a Level 6 Seedot. Ooh! A new Pokemon! Turtwig very gently subdues the Seedot so Tohru can start chucking Pokeballs. Pokeball GO!
1st Ultra Ball attempt...SUCCESS! Turtwig levels up to 13!
SEEDOT - Level 6 - Mild Nature
Moves: Bide, Harden
Hooray, she caught one! Time to head home and level up!
(frozen comment) no subject
1 Ball = 1 Level
So 4 Poke Balls + 7 Great Balls = 11 Levels?
Putting Turtwig at Level 24? Want to be sure I'm doing this right before I make a note in Tohru's pokemon journal entry. In which case, if Turtwig is at least level 18, may he evolve into Grotle?
(frozen comment) no subject
Yes, that's correct. And yes, she now has a Grotle!
