The Doctor smiles and applauds them, waiting for them to take a bow and then quiets the audience.]
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. Let's get started, shall we?
[there is a fanfare and he turns to Gale, smiling and spreading his hands]
You were undoubtedly brilliant, my friend. You dazzled. You performed. You sang with finesse and verve and I'm quite sure have more than one favorite in the audience. [he allows them a moment to vent their appreciation] You were a star... but unfortunately this heaven is a little bit too small for you.
No one is denying your talent or your ability, but the bar was set even higher for someone who knew what they were doing. That being said, if you're serious about getting started here, come see me.
[the audience doesn't seem too pleased with that, and honestly, neither is he. But there is more to this sort of thing than talent. At least Gail does get a small star shaped trophy, if he will have it.]
[Rose takes up the second trophy, a large one, made with bronze, and also a gold lined check and a holofoil coupon booklet. These she hands to Papyrus, along with a silver quill]
Papyrus, you nearly blew us away with your song. Some of us were in tears. [he grins at Rose] You have a great and commanding stage presence. If at times a little too commanding. Anyway, we look forward to your presence at Attleton U. [well he doesn't specifically] And remember you're never too late to get an education. [stealth pun which he hopes no one notices]
[he allows a moment for the applause, and perhaps appreciative laughter. Whatever Papyrus would like to
shoutsay and so on.][Then, he himself takes the silver star trophy and a slightly larger check and presents it to Ace]
You know, I knew an Ace once. She tended to make things explode. You did the same thing... with our hearts. [no. bad line] Remind me never to say that again. If I ever say that again, send someone to shoot me. You'd like the perky blond that comes out of it. Anyway, congratulations! You've got a real fire in you that was admirably banked for the performance, as well as not too terribly bad guitar skills given your lack of time.
I look forward to working with you. Hope you like sequined jumpsuits. [a wink.he's joking. Probably]
[he allows more time for general happiness in regards to this announcement, and then Hawk grabs the Golden Star which has something on the edges that glimmers and shifts in the light. Along with the largest check, there is also a charm for the city of Fayren, shaped a bit like a musical note]
Finally, last but certainly not least, for her charm and her heart warming singing, Rapunzel is the first. Genessian Idol. [he even says it in the cheesy announcer voice and dies a little inside and nobody knows it but...well Rose probably and Eleven if he's watching, but mostly just himself]
Congratulations on your charm, your spirit, and of course your song. Your sunshine personality won the day and the hearts of everyone who watched.
[there is a bigger fanfare here! And one that has many of the audience standing. He lets her say her piece and when it's done, waves a hand]
Another round of applause for our lovely contestants! Thank you all for coming and we hope to see you next year!
Re: [Results]
The coupon book for eateries will make for good kindling. Who needs 'em when you have his cooking!? Can any of those rip-offs even make spaghetti?
And yet, he comes away with the scholarship. That he's way too busy to use. But hey, nice fallback option!]
THANKS DOC! I FEEL SMARTER ALREADY!!
[But no reason to be negative! His fellow Guardian took first, and Ace won!]
I BET YOU'D LOOK GREAT IN A FLAMING JUMPSUIT!
[And he has great fans in him and Rose. What more could he ask for? After a good cry that he most certainly did not have, he's all smiles.]
YOU GUYS ALL DID GREAT!! WE'RE THE BEST MUSICIANS EVER!!! WE'LL HAVE TO GET TOGETHER AND RECORD OUR THEME SONGS SOMETIME!
[Results]
[She's serious, she's 100% fucking serious.] Or we can do a recording together. I know you're super busy between school and Guardian, but I think you just sang what I've been trying and failing to express for the past five years, now more than ever.
Re: [Results]
[Someone liked it this much? What is he mentally saying, of course she did! Rose always had consistently excellent taste. Why else would she hire him?]
OKAY! THE GREAT BB IS JUST THE ONE TO SPREAD MY SWAN SONG EVEN MORE!
[Yes. To all!]
[Results]
[He's not sure what else to say. And it's not quite set in that he'll be obligated to preform again as part of his win.]
no subject
That was amazing!
[He totally means this, he really does. He's beyond impressed with Ace for going up there and singing; even if he'd lost, the blond would still be proud of him.]
I'm so proud of you! What are you going to do, now? [He has no idea what the money Ace won is going to.]
no subject
I think my looks did it more than my voice. But it doesn't matter, because I got second and it's mostly over. [Sabo is proud of him. That puts a lot of weight and warmth onto the moment that wasn't there before.] Well, I need to cash this. There's gotta be somewhere open at this hour, right?
no subject
[He straightens up and absentmindedly adjusts his cravat.]
There should be a place open now; perhaps one of the convenience stores? I haven't been to one for that reason -- [Since he has no actual job still] but I've seen signs on the doors advertising cashing out checks and other things.
You know, I barely use 'berries' to refer to money as anymore. Been so long since I have.
no subject
[Ace rushes out, to make sure that he isn't needed any longer, and then he grabs Sabo by the hand and starts leading him out.] Then let's go! I wanna get the cashed and then go home. I'm beat.
no subject
[He's not surprised when he's led outside, since he understands wanting to cash out immediately. Thankfully, the closest convenience store is a short jog away, so they get there fairly fast.]
Great, the sign is there.
[He points at a sign advertising check cashing, satisfied that he'd remembered correctly.]
no subject
[Ace heads inside, and huffs at finding out there's a fee and that they can't honestly handle that large of a check in their store. But they do tell him where they can go, a bank open all night. So Ace heads off again.] After this if you wanna hang out or something I'm good for it, as long as I don't have to stay up too late. Maybe we can get some ramen before we go home? [Ace is pleased, at least, that the bank isn't too far from there.]
no subject
Perhaps a slightly nicer place, maybe? Though Smoker's didn't seem that bad, just -- smoky.]
You know me. I can always go for ramen. It'll be your treat though, since you've just won a hefty prize! [He pokes his shoulder as they walk to that bank.] What are you using it on, do you know yet?
no subject
[The bank is very modern, and surprisingly busy for this hour. But the teller is nice, and congratulates Ace on his second place win, which throws him off a little. Thankfully it's a quick visit, and after paying an out of pocket fee the money is in an envelope and they're out the door.] Okay. Time for ramen. [He hands the envelope to Sabo as they walk.] There's five thousand there. Share it with Luffy. It'll keep you on your feet until you recover and can work full time.
no subject
It'd be no fun to not bring it up, anyhow.
He's silent in the bank, looking over a few advertisements on posters, wondering when he'll finally get some sort of steady job here. He needs to. He's been a little antsy, and he could use a better place to live.
But after the two of them leave the bank, and he's handed that envelope and told how much is inside, he quickly shoves it right back toward his brother.]
No, no. This is yours! Please. [He stops walking, his expression a mix of teary-eyed happiness and seriousness.] You should keep it. Get a nicer place, one for just you and him. Please.
no subject
[The only reason he even considered going up on stage and opening his heart to people was so Luffy and Sabo wouldn't struggle. Ace has had an easy ride here from the start. He's been so well taken care of that work even now is honestly optional. So he hands the envelope back and clasps one of Sabo's hands over it.]
I just got a job as a deputy, so I'm making more than enough right now. So please, take it. [He takes a deep breath, and continues.] Back home, you and Luffy loved me when the world wanted me dead. Thank you for that. For taking care of Luffy back home when I couldn't. You're my brothers. And I love you. [His voice is slightly strained now, and he's tearing up a little..] So let me do this for you. Please.
no subject
I -- what if I give all of this to Luffy? [He looks back toward Ace and smiles slightly, but his eyes obviously still show the signs of tears starting to form.] I didn't care for him without you. I forgot all about him and you -- I can't -- take this for myself. Not even half of it. [He won't hand it back, though. His idea is that he should just give it all to their younger brother.] I'll be sure he gets it safely, though. That I can promise.

T'was a pleasure to perform, regardless. I would be honored at the opportunity to pursue this further.
[Solely for the audience's entertainment, he made use of his soul crystals and swapped his outfit instantly again before taking a bow. Fennekin, still remaining on Gale's shoulder, bowed his head too, just for adorable points.]

Re: [Results]
So after a few moments of having to overcome the shock before she moved to bow towards everyone.]
Thank you and congratulations to everyone. Everyone's performances were wonderful.

[Results]
How do you feel about your win?
Re: [Results]
I mean there were so many wonderful performances that I actually figured ne of them would win.

Re: [Results]
I will try, but I can also appreciate the wonderful music that the others put forward. Everyone did a good job.
