Who: Lioriley and you sicknasty pokemon trainers
What: it's pokemon time
When: JULY just. all of it.
Where: All of the wheres
JULY 1ST
( Lioriley has no idea what a Pokemon is, but that sure doesn't stop her from venturing to find out. At the lab she's seen looking over the starters, her eyes wide and her expression a mix of intrigue and absolute awe at the sight of them all. It seems to be increasingly difficult for her to find one that suits her - but when she does, it's the sweet little Oshawott that ends up cradled in her arms.
After she has chosen and taken her pokeballs, she spins on her heel and heads for the door. Just outside of the lab she stands, the Oshawott in the crook of her arm as she frantically tries to scribble something down in a notebook. Whenever anyone approaches she smiles, and when they come back out she seems eager to see what they have come out with, if anything. )
Oh, did you have as much trouble deciding as I had? I wanted to take them all with me... ( Rip. )
( Later she can be seen around Fayren, still taking notes every so often when she comes across a new Pokemon. At one point she's crouching down, chin in her palms and elbows on her knees as two small Pokemon stand in front of her. Her Oshawott, and now a Ralts, listening to her as she speaks to them. The conversation is, admittedly, one sided as she questions them. )
Do you have names?
( A reply in the form of, you know, pokemon names and curious cocks of their heads. Lioriley scrunches her nose up. )
No, no, other names like - Like my name is Lioriley. Um. Hm. ( HOW do you explain this. ) Nicknames? Something unique. ( It's the Oshawott that chirps a reply, patting its flipper on Lioriley's arm and grinning as it nods its head. You do you, new mom. She smiles and continues chatting at them. It's real dumb. )

[ Maratris is having much less luck with this whole trainer business, as the Cyndaquil she picked out seems to be a bit of a troublemaker, having led her on a merry chase most of the day. The little one pauses a bit about five feet from where Lioriley and her pokemon are having their conversation, and Maratris attempts to take that moment to grab him - quite literally jumping and lunging for him.
However, he's quick enough to get out of the way, causing her to eat dirt. She groans in frustration, making no effort to get up immediately, as she's Very Tired. The salt in the wound is that her Cyndaquil decides that he'll celebrate by posing on her head. ]
no subject
The elf is on her feet in an instant, her Pokemon trailing behind her as she approaches. )
Goodness! Are you alright? ( Is the Cyndaquil wild? She ... she can't tell. Regardless, she extends a hand, offering it to Maratris - or to get the Pokemon off her. Whichever happens first successfully. )
no subject
Thanks, I'm. Fine, I think. I'm getting the feeling I may not be cut out to care for these little familiars.
no subject
Oh, surely that is not true! Perhaps yours is simply... adventurous. ( She smiles brightly, standing straight now that Maratris is back on her feet. ) Have they been running from you all day?
something something all of these eorzeans are mine now ( private 4 gale )
At some point Oshawott wanders off - mom isn't paying attention while she writes something down in her notebook, and Ralts sits in the grass beside her. She hears a squeak, looks up and fears the worst, only to find Oshawott with his flippers patting at a Fennekin nearby. Uh. Where did - oh.
She hadn't noticed the man beside the creature, mostly because she kind of zoned out for a while there. When Oshawott turns to happily announce his find, Lioriley smiles and pushes to stand, walking with Ralts over to the Fennekin, and their owner. )
Good afternoon! It seems these two are hitting it off well.
gonna be an eorzean master
After those battles, Fennekin looked a little spooked when Oshawott first approached, but soon grew comfortable with its new friend's appearance, wagging his tail and pawing back at the Oshawott's flippers.
It wasn't until he heard a happy "Fenn!" and heard the approach of someone that Gale came back into reality, looking at the two Pokemon and smiled but when Lioriley spoke, he looked at her and nodded.]
Ah, hello. It certainly seems so. T'is a welcome sight after our... "adventures" of the day. Did you get him from the professor as well?
no subject
You look tired, those adventures must have been exhausting.
no subject
Ah, they were. Albeit unsuccessful, seeing that we did quite a lot of running. Our luck with meeting the others in the wild hasn't been particularly great.
[But Fennekin didn't get hurt too much, and it was nothing a good rest couldn't fix. Gale had also been quite sure to tend to the little fox with healing magic where needed, but luckily that wasn't terribly needed.]
Valiant is a good name. I've been at a loss with a name for Fennekin, particularly one that he'll like. He didn't seem keen on being named Thancred.
[Which really was probably for the best. Gale just couldn't help but feel sentimental.]
But where are my manners. My name is Gale. T'is a pleasure to meet you.
no subject
Lioriley. It is a pleasure to meet you Gale. Hopefully you will have more luck tomorrow - there are plenty of Pokemon to find.
( Oshawott raises his flippers up when his name is praised, clearly pleased. While Ralts seems to be half asleep on Liorileys lap. ) Is Thancred an important name?
no subject
That is my hope. Perhaps luck will be on our side soon.
[He seems to hesitate at the question for a moment, his smile with a hint of sadness.]
It's the name of a friend from home, one I haven't seen in some time.
[One that he fears may be dead, despite the few people around him at home confident that everyone in their merry little band is somehow alive. He doesn't quite share that optimism. But he tries to hide it, looking at Fennekin, who was making a playful pounce at Oshawott.]
But he doesn't care for it, so I can't go givin' him a name he doesn't like. I would prefer not to be on the receiving end of any embers.
no subject
( She offers a slightly apologetic smile before shifting her attention to the two Pokemon. Oshawott is not quick enough to dodge the pounce, and ends up on his back. He did not stand a chance. )
I can offer suggestions, if you like, though they surely would not hold nearly as much significance.
no subject
Perhaps it's for the best. I'm not sure how he would feel if I named something after him. I imagine there would be teasing for moons. I'd never hear the end of it.
[He could only imagine all of that. It did bring out a more genuine smile with it, even if there was an longing ache to see his companions again.]
If you're willing, I certainly wouldn't decline. Perhaps you'll have a name that he'll like. Naming isn't exactly my strong suit.
no subject
( She doesn't know, but she might as well be optimistic for his sake. It sounds like he really misses his friend - and she wonders briefly the state of said friend back home.
Best not to go down that line of questioning. Instead she taps her chin thoughtfully. )
Luckily enough, my friend Estinien has a fire type too, so I have some options already. Inferno, Cinder, Arden -
no subject
[And then she namedropped her friend. Estinien? "Friend?" Estinien made a friend?? Does not compute, error error.]
You've met Estinien? And you managed to befriend him?
[He isn't even saying that to be mean (even if his opinion of Estinien isn't the highest), but he sure sounds genuinely confused. He does manage to get back on what they were actually talking about, looking towards Fennekin.]
How does the name Arden sound to you?
[Fennekin turns his attention to Gale and Lior with ears twitching, before seeming to let out a satisfied "Fenn!"]
Well damn, I think you got it in three. Far better luck than I had indeed, thank you.
[This will beat calling him by his species name all the time!]
no subject
Yes? ( Should she not have? Did she miss something? Lioriley continues to stare at Gale quizzically, her attention only diverted when she feels Ralts tapping against her arm like he's trying to get her attention. Focus up mom. )
Hm - oh! Yes, or course. I am glad I was able to help.
no subject
Ah, forgive me. Estinien and I are... acquainted, I guess you can say. We both hail from Eorzea. He tends to be quite... adversarial. Hence my surprise.
[Lord, did he and Ysayle bicker. It was almost impressive how catty those two got.]
But t'is good to hear that he is adjusting to Genessia. I confess I had my concerns for him.
[Now he's just playing nice, because he kind of couldn't care less about what Estinien did, but he wasn't going to pester poor Lioriley with his grievances towards their country. No one deserves that.]
no subject
Hm. Well, for whatever it is worth, he has been kind enough to me. If ever you wish to see him he has taken to sleeping on my roof.
( a slight grimace she barely manages to contain. ) I hope that is not a habit that continues.
no subject
I hope that is a sign that he realizes glaring at every passerby won't get him anywhere.
[He just keeps smiling lalala just hide your pain]
On your roof..? [He pinches the bridge of his nose.] Hells, I have a dragoon soul crystal and even I cannot begin to fathom why he would do that.
[He pauses, then quietly laughs.]
Tell him there is a dragon in your midst. That will surely bring him down.
no subject
I am afraid I do not understand. ( does he like or dislike them? Is that good or bad advice? Hello?)
no subject
[He'll leave out the part about "war with dragons" and all that. Ishgard sucks.]
For a more serious consideration, have you been firmer in the request to come down?
no subject
( She loves dragons, so maybe her own bias is showing. Still, she silently notes to keep an eye out, should any happen to show up in Genessia. )
I am hardly in a position to assert authority. If he wishes to come down and sleep in a bed proper, I suspect he will of his own accord.
( maybe. Who knows. She glances over to the two Pokemon again to see Oshawott flopped against Fennekins side, half asleep in the shade. )
... Well, that is unexpected.
no subject
[His interactions with Estinien were few since arriving, but Gale still remained pleasantly surprised that the elezen didn't try calling bullshit on him, so Estinien was more grounded than Gale gave him credit for to begin with.]
Perhaps he wishes not to impose on you. But I would hope he would come in before the weather turns. A drenched elezen isn't particularly beneficial.
[And it is her roof, she'd have the position to tell him to get his ass inside. Gale turns his gaze back to the Pokemon as well, Fennekin curled around Oshawott. He grinned, taking out his device and snapping a picture of the two.]
Unexpected but adorable. Their playing must have tuckered them out.
no subject
Also, she's far too polite to demand anything from someone she's only just met. If push comes to shove and he ends up out in the rain, she can only assume then he'll be smart enough to take her offer. Until then - well, he's not hurting anyone, at least. )
So it would seem. Best to let them rest while they can, I suppose. Unless you have somewhere you need to be.
no subject
[Last thing he'd want to do is carry on his homeland's antics and piss a dragon off. Or multiple. He didn't know how they operated here.]
Oh, no. Arden has done more than enough for the day. He's earned his rest. He's seemed quite timid, so I'm happy to see he's made a friend with Valiant.
But I'm not keeping you, am I? I wouldn't want to be rude and keep you from places.
no subject
To his question she shakes her head, smiling. )
Not at all. Save for looking for Pokemon I do not have any other plans for the day. And I am more than happy to sit and chat with you for as long as you would like.
no subject
[But that's just what he would gather from his experiences with the dragons near the Churning Mists. There were the dragons that had their residence in the tower at Anyx Trine, after all.]
How fare you in your own searches so far? [He pauses a moment.] And I hope Estinien has chosen to accompany you at some stage?
[Gale couldn't help but be amused at that idea. Estinien, of all people, with little Pokemon. He would almost love to see that grump with them all.]
no subject
I have only found this one so far. ( A nod to the Ralts in her lap, now asleep after the long day its apparently had. ) And he has joined me for both days out so far! He seems to slowly be gaining interest. ( Very Slowly. )
If ever you care to join us, you are more than welcome.
no subject
I am glad that Estinien is doing more than hiding on rooftops. [Not really but he can pretend.] Your other Pokemon is cute. Does he have a name as well?
[He's all smiles, but he's a wee bit salty his last two days went so poorly, but hey, that's not her fault so she doesn't need to hear about it. He nods.]
If you would have me, I would be happy to accompany you. These adventures would be more fun with a party for sure.
no subject
Of course! The more the merrier, as they say. Is there a particular type of Pokemon you are looking for?
no subject
That's a good name as well. I may need to seek your guidance on names later, should my luck with catching them change.
[The idea of going Pokemon hunting with Estinien of all people was... off putting... but he'd be more into the idea of being in Lioriley's presence than his.]
I'm afraid I haven't seen many of them to know for certain. [He pauses, lightly tapping his cheek.] But I am quite fond of dogs, so perhaps if there are any that have a resemblance...
[He wasn't sure if there was, but he knew he'd want it if there is.]
no subject
( all he had to do was tell her he didn't want to go with estinein. She'd be confused, but it's not like she knows their real relationship at this point. )
Dogs? Well then, should I happen across any I will be sure you are the first to know.
Teak's Lab
It made a serious face at Lioriley's conversational query.]
YES. IT WAS A HEART-BREAKING, SMART-MAKING DECISION. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE THIS!
[He thrusts forward the GenessiaDex, as though it were granted to him singly.]
IT'S CHOCK FULL OF INFORMATION SO YOU CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS!! LISTEN TO THIS.
[He smiles as he points it at his serious 'mon, and it robotically reads:]
Chikorita, the Leaf pokemon. It waves its leaf around to keep foes at bay. However, a sweet fragrance also wafts from the leaf, creating a friendly atmosphere that becalms the battlers.
I CAN SMELL THE FRIENDSHIP ALREADY!! I'M SURE YOU ALSO WISELY PICKED YOURS FOR ITS SPECIAL TALENTS.
[Prepare for pointers, Mr. Wott.]
Oshawott, the Sea Otter pokemon. The scalchop on its stomach isn't just used for battle--it can be used to break open hard berries as well.
...YOU MUST SUFFER FROM A SURPLUS OF HARD BERRIES!! SAY GOODBYE TO THOSE TROUBLESOME FRUITS!!
no subject
At the moment, no. I suppose I chose based more on instinct than special talents. Though those are certainly interesting facts to know!
no subject
[He says with his usual glowing flattery. The barbarism to his civilization. Such romantic extremes.]
WELL I'LL KNOW WHO TO TURN TO IF I RUN INTO BELLIGERENT BERRIES! I WISH I HAD A SCALCHOP ON MY CHEST. ALAS, ONLY MY BATTLE BODY, AND THEN MY RIBS.
[Very jelly. The leafer is lasered into its ball to do what all starter pokemon must: get the stuffing beat out of it for more of its kind.]
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST TO FIGHT THE REST AND BE THE BEST! NYEH HEH HEH!!!
