Who: Sabo and Captain Bastien Courbis
When: July 3rd
Where: Various clothing shops
What: shopping for clothes with little in the way of funds!
[Sabo honestly loves pretty much any opportunity to go clothes shopping. Even if he admittedly has little in the way of funds right now, but that doesn't mean he can't window shop. Besides, he'll have money soon enough, since he's a workaholic and going too long without an actual job is going to make him a bit antsy.
He may already be antsy, since he's offering to take this near-stranger to window shop. He's also intrigued by him, and he hopes that this outing will allow for him to learn some things about the other man.
For now, though, he'll be waiting in front of a fancier clothing store in Genessia City, keeping an eye out for his shopping companion to meet him.

[ Calls a familiar voice from over yonder. It seems Bastien was doing a little bit of window shopping already before Sabo arrived. That's good. It's better than him attempting to rob the shop. Bastien wasn't kidding about curbing his thieving ways. ]
My apologies for the tardiness. [ He states with a sheepish chuckle. ] Believe it or not, I got lost in the crowd.
[ That's a "half" truth at best. Bastien's hair is oddly damp. Almost as if he went for a swim or something. His shoddy clothes look as bland as ever but they're also a little damp. Just what in the world was this pirate doing earlier? Who knows? ]
no subject
You weren't too late, don't worry about it. Besides, I had extra time to scope out this store through their front windows! [Which sounds a little -- suspect, but he wasn't doing anything more than that.
He does notice how Bastien is damp, though, in particular, his hair.]
The crowd in the ocean? You're damp.
no subject
[ He chuckles lightly as be regards the blond with a teasing glance. ]
Aren't you supposed to be some "paragon of justice" or whatever the likes? I can't have you committing any crimes, you know.
[ He lets out a boisterous laugh before answering the following question with a sheepish chuckle. ]
Just a midday swim, mate! I needed to get my feet wet.
no subject
Wouldn't dream of it.
[And then he chuckles again at that ridiculous description of what he does or stands for.]
Not exactly. Just not a fan of small time shops being affected by thievery. That's all. [He's a revolutionary -- he stands for the weak.
One side of his mouth curves upward very slightly at that answer to his question. Swimming right before clothes shopping? Doesn't seem like the best plan.]
You do realize you're still damp, right? And trying on clothes while damp would be a mistake? [He crosses his arms.] Couldn't have waited to swim until after this?
no subject
[ He awards Sabo with a brief smirk before tiptoeing around him towards the shop window.
Are we going here? This place looks nice!
[ While scooping out the display within the window, Bastien doesn't quite realize that the little gills upon his neck has yet to fade yet. He's still quite damp and until he dries off, those gills upon his neck will remain visible. They look like tattoos ironically, like a flick of a calligraphy brush if anything. There's three gills on each side but typically his long hair hides them. ]
no subject
Yep. I think it'll have some outfits that suit you.
[As he turns to face the shop window once again, he catches a quick glimpse of the other man's neck. Did he have tattoos before? The blond doesn't recall, but --
He had just gotten one of his own, recently, so perhaps Bastien had, too. He inches closer to get a better look.]
Did you get tattoos recently, by chance?
no subject
[ A sharp gasp escapes Bastien once he realizes what Sabo meant. He turns around quickly looking positively frazzled as he touches his neck. It's then that his eyes widen a bit. ]
Oh bugger.
[ Bastien lets out a tense chuckle. Just how in the hell he's going to explain himself here? He has no bloody idea. ]
These are not tattoos, lad. [ You know, if Sabo wasn't friends with a shark man, he wouldn't be admitting this. Nope, not at all. ] These be gills, savvy?
Namur isn't the only "fishy" around these parts.
no subject
He soon gets distracted from the mere suggestion of such when he's told that what he'd just seen isn't a tattoo, but gills.]
Mm, alright. Makes sense. You're a sort of Fish Man, aren't you? [He'd have thought that those were just in his world, but seeing as how he'd been in several worlds himself, and witnessed many different folk -- this isn't strange at all.]
Are those the only gills you have, then? You look far more human than not.
no subject
[ He states with a slight chuckle as he tries to hide the offending gills behind within his hair. One of the reasons why Bastien keeps his hair so long is because he can hide his abnormalities whenever he climbs out the sea. Back at in his world, Bastien has to hide what he is in fear of some of the lunatics who might try to capture him or worse. Thankfully, he doesn't have to worry about that here in Genessia. At least not yet. ]
The fingers, mate. [ He holds up his right hand to show the slight webbing in between his fingers. ] Then the tail, of course. That only happens in water though.
I trade my sea legs for a tail. Don't ask me how or why. It's a bit of an oddity but my mum told me it's because the Father of the Sea, Poseidon, cursed us all.
no subject
He lets out a pained sigh at that thought, but quickly smiles again to show that Bastien hadn't done a thing wrong. His eyes even widen when he sees that hand, and specifically, the webbing between the fingers.]
Ooh. [And then he hears about a tail in the water and -- yeah, that's like a mermaid.] Interesting. I hope this doesn't come across as strange or anything, but -- I'd be interested in seeing that sometime. I can't swim, though, so I'd have to watch from the side.
[He spins around on one foot to face the shop yet again, rushing over to the door to hold it open.]
We can talk more about that later, though. Time to shop.
no subject
[ Bastien chuckles lightly despite his slight hesitance to show his true form. While he doesn't exactly trust Sabo yet, he does trust him enough not to pull any funny business. People get awfully strange around the supernatural and then some. Bastien was kidnapped once and nearly sold on the auction block as a child when someone found out his secret. It's a terrible memory, one that certainly left him traumatized well on to adulthood. ]
But what's with you none of you blokes being able to swim? You're the second seafaring fellow I know who can't swim. That's a little odd, mate.
[Bastien can't stop himself from grinning from ear to ear now that they're shopping adventure has begun. He gives Sabo another glance before rushing inside the shop looking positively starry-eyed.]
Look at this place! [His eyes are comically large now.] Paradise on earth!
Where to start?
no subject
Is Ace the first? [He pauses, but quickly adds:] We can't swim because of the Devil Fruit we ate. That's the weakness they all have.
[And it's an annoying one, but one that can be worked around, surely.
Once Bastien enters the shop, Sabo makes sure the door closes on its own and then beams as well, almost mimicking those wide eyes.]
Well, I think you'd look wonderful in a suit. There are many of those over here -- [He dashes over to the far back corner of the shop, where many suit jackets and pants are neatly arranged on hanging racks. They come in many standard colors. Sabo pulls a navy blue jacket down and holds it in front of himself.]
Like this!
no subject
[ He stares at Sabo with a bit of a frown. ]
Truth be told, you wouldn't catch me sinkin' my teeth into anything called "a devil" but that's just me.
[ For all of Bastien's bluster and boasting, the man isn't hardly as brave as his pirate father. Goldbeard was absolutely fearless in every way but Bastien is more pragmatic. A healthy dose of fear doesn't make a man cowardly. If anything, it makes him a bit wiser than all the idealistic fearless fools who always leap first and ask questions later. ]
A suit, eh? [ He grins quite a bit. ] Like a proper gent? Yes, I like this idea.
[ Bastien reaches out to touch the fabric in between his thumbs, idly taken back by the fine fabric. ]
Oh, that's really nice! Blue always been my favorite color.
no subject
He really beams when the other man shows interest in the suit he'd picked out, quickly commenting:] Oh, I like blue a lot, too! My pants are almost always a shade of blue. [To which he gestures at them. They're a lighter blue-gray color.] I also wear a blue vest, and my goggles are blue. Partly. [He leans forward a little, his expression clearly proud. Then, he points at the goggles around his tall hat.] I actually made these!
