Bond 23 [Video] Pokemon Q&A Time!

Hello, everyone! I hope you have a marvelous month catching and befriending as many Pokemon you can encounter. In case anyone doesn't know me yet, my name is Augustine Sycamore and I'm the Pokemon Professor of the Kalos region. Along with most of the knowledge on these creatures, my research focuses on Mega Evolution, a phenomenon that allows some Pokemon to evolve one step further beyond their limits.

[Just then, his Garchomp, Greninja, and his latest additions, Delphox, and Lucario entered the scene as most of them cried happily while the latter two waved at the camera.]

As for these creatures, Pokemon are powerful and supernatural creatures that originally came from my world. There are different kinds of Pokemon and while some keep them as pets, most of us including Pokemon trainers used them for a Pokemon battle for entertainment and to help them bond with their Pokemon even more.

Now I can tell that not everyone here is new to these creatures or just want to know how you can take care of a certain Pokemon species.

That's why I'm here today. Though while I can't answer some of the questions regarding some Pokemon from the Alola region, I can help you out on the basics of Pokemon training and caretaking. Just contact me through this video and I'll do everything to answer them as much as I can.

Good evening, Professor Sycamore. My name is Alice, and I am a new arrival to this world. I understand little and less of what I have heard, and so I am hoping a man of your learning may be able to assist me in understanding.

What are these 'Pokemon'? I am familiar with monsters, and am no stranger to fighting them, but having overheard the gossip of this place, it seems that is to be frowned upon with these.

Other than what I just explained in my video, I don't understand what they are or how do they exist in the first place.

However, I can assure you that these creatures are very harmless and will not attack anyone unless it's provoked. So fighting against these Pokemon with weapons is very frowned in this world.

I see. [There's a pause, and-] I assume that, similarly, hunting them for food is considered wrong?

[Just what kind of question is that?!]

While Magikarp is known to be eaten by both Pokemon and humans, I discourage you to hunt them. I doubt most of the residents here would like to eat Pokemon for nourishment.

[Plus to him, eating Pokemon is both disturbing and disgusting.]

[Well. If it helps, she's got pointed ears and slit pupils, so she's probably not coming at this from an entirely human point of view.]

I have also heard the name in relation to... Ah, some sort of... 'stalker mime'. Know you anything of this?

A 'stalker mime'?

Can you tell me what you're referring to?

A man complained on these devices of being hounded by 'Mr. Mime'.

['Mr. Mime? It made a bit of sense since some people complained about its appearance.]

Did that man mention that he caught it with a red and white capsule ball?

Nay. He mentioned nothing of the sort. Merely that he seemed to find them whenever he ventured out. Or that they found him.

I see. And he didn't have any Pokemon that he owned with him in the video?

I do not know how to tell what is a "Pokemon" and what is merely indigenous life to this land.

Good point. If he likes, I may teach you two a bit more about Pokemon and hopefully how to defend yourselves from any hostile wild Pokemon.

I know not the other man's name, nor how he would feel about that. But I would be glad to learn, if you were willing to teach. I am a doctor by trade, and to learn more of the dangers of this place will make it much easier to treat them.

I'm glad to hear that. Also if you like, you can try visiting Professor Teak's lab to get yourself a Pokemon. It should help you defend yourself from these Pokemon.

[She shakes her head.]

It would be irresponsible of me to do so. When I leave here, I know not whether such a thing would accompany me, and I will return to great danger. I would thus either abandon it, or take it into a situation it would like as not not survive.

What do you mean? Is there a reason you can't leave where you are right now?

Ah... I mean, when I return to my homeland, from this world.

Ah, I see.

[Considering her world doesn't have Pokemon, he can understand why.]

Well, we can't tell when or how we can get home, but at least you should try to befriend a Pokemon. Though, I can understand if you still don't want to get your Pokemon.

[She shakes her head.]

It would be cruel, if I understand this correctly. I have no intention of adopting a pet.

[He did say he understands her reasons, so he decides to not press that subject even further.]

Alright. As for that man who mentioned that Mr. Mime, I might look into it if I can.

Please do. I am not unaccustomed to the culling of beasts which cause suffering, but it seems as though that is not what must be done here.

Yes. To me and everyone who originally lived with Pokemon, they are important to us as companions, pets, and partners. And I feel some of the residents feel the same way with their Pokemon.

Just killing them wouldn't make anything better for you and anyone else.

... Certainly.

I beg your pardon. In my homeland, Adelheld, there are... many monsters. Most of them with a taste for human flesh, who seek naught but to destroy all life they meet. So to meet these strange creatures, and to be told they are but... pets, and companions, is difficult to adjust to. I apologize if my crass words have caused offense.

[While he was disgusted at the description of how her world's monsters had a taste for human flesh, he can understand her reasons behind her decision.]

No offense taken. I know not everyone is too adjusted with befriending these kinds of creatures due to how their homeworlds are. However, even if you don't own your Pokemon, I can assure you that they will not harm anyone without any reason nor destroy life around us.

[Where did this guy come from?! Kukui in the network, yeah!]

Alola! Kukui here! When it comes to evolutions and the bonds that spark them, Sycamore's knowledge is unmatched like a Machamp's Strength, yeah!

I thought Pokemon were something made up by Genessia. How did they come here from your world?

I don't know how did they arrive here in the first place. But I do know that there were previous phenomena related to the Pokemon's appearance in Genessia even before I arrived here.

I'd heard about that, but not that they came from someone else's world. Well, they're here now. They have a strong drive, like my people and I do. And...they do make good companions.

[Darc allows a rare smile to peek through. A Blissey enters the background, joining Charizard and Golduck. The smile grows.]

It's very nice to meet you, Darc. I guess you already knew how similar those Pokemon are to most humans.

And like you said, they are known to be great companions. Not only they help their owners with their jobs, but most of them also become trainers to battle alongside their Pokemon in a battle.

Not just humans - Deimos too. Our instincts push us to become stronger, and it seems to be the same for Pokemon. Nobody mentioned that we can fight alongside them before, though. I don't like standing around on the sidelines.

Someone else here called themselves a Pokemon Professor - his name was Kukui, I think. What does a Pokemon Professor do?

I didn't see much of them, but some of the residents do fight alongside Pokemon. Though to me, I just prefer commanding them in the sidelines.

Pokemon Professors are researchers who are well-known experts on the Pokemon themselves. Though, we sometimes focus on one subject related to them to understand more about their behavior and abilities. Professor Kukui focuses his research moves while I focused on a special kind of Pokemon evolution called Mega Evolution.

Also back in our worlds, we have to lend out one of the three Pokemon for starting Pokemon trainers as well a special digital encyclopedia device called a Pokedex.

Not me. Battle is in my blood. I bet they'll make good sparring partners.

Evolution is when the Pokemon gets strong enough that their body changes, right? So is Mega Evolution like that?

[He's not even surprised by Darc's statement. He did read interviews that Crasher Wake did spar with his Pokemon sometimes.]

Yes. The only difference is that not only it's a temporary evolution, but it breaks the limits of an ordinary evolution to some Pokemon. For example, your Charizard is the final form of Charmander, yet they can evolve further into Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y if they have the right Mega Stone and a Key Stone for you to activate.

[He then shows the said Key Stone that was located on his watch.]

Out of curiosity... where are all these Pokemon coming from, exactly? They're not native to here, are they?

They were originated as native creatures from my homeworld and Professor Kukui's world. However, it seems that this world's yearly phenomenon like this month brought some Pokemon in Genessia as well as altering the locations to fit what was happening this year.

I see... well, I suppose if people can end up being brought here, there's nothing to say the same can't happen to Pokemon.

When you say "yearly phenomenon"... does this happen annually?

Yes. My Garchomp actually came with me the moment I woke up in Genessia a few years ago and several trainers like Professor Kukui also brought some of their Pokemon with them. Though I think it may have something to do that they were stored in our Poke Balls that time.

[Sycamore nods.]

Yes. While the timing is a bit random, it does happen once a year or so.

That's... strange. Don't you think?

[ She sounds a little unsure of herself as she says it, though. That's not at all in line with her experience of the good old interdimensional kidnapping, but neither has anything about Genessia so far. Maybe that really is just how things work here. ]

I mean, there can't be much of a point to it, can there?

To be honest, it doesn't make sense regarding the timing. Though I'll try to research more about it as well with the Pokemon's annual appearances within Genessia.
