Why do people hate clowns so much?

[Seemed like a rather odd question, to say the least, nothing seemingly prompting it either. But it had been something that the young man had been noticing for a while and it bothered him.]

I've seen horror movies that have clowns and just there seemed to be a lot of dislike towards them and I honestly don't get why. They aren't bad, they just want to make people happy. So I guess I'm just trying to understand why.

Their preferred brand of happiness is humor, especially the kind that comes from another's foibles. Most don't like being the butt of those jokes. Think "The Emperor's New Clothes."

And some dislike them on aesthetic grounds.

Not all the time though. I had to learn tricks like juggling that has nothing to do with anyone being the butt of the joke.

[He learned quite a few tricks actually when he thought of them this logic made no sense since none fell under anything like that.]

So it seems like a bad reason to dislike all clowns when not all of them are the same.

I'm sure that there must be a whole science to it, maybe... some people just have bad experiences? I guess that the make-up can be kind of odd...

Maybe, but the number of people who don't is really high. [At least compared to home anyway.]

I do. Mana was one. [He smiled slightly when he mentioned him before he realized, he should really mention who Mana was.]

Mana was someone I traveled with for a bit as a child.

I think that for some people, clowns became scary... Maybe it's because they've never seen a good clown before.

He was someone I cared about and... well, I guess when you do what I did, I guess I would have considered him as such.

Maybe. I might have to show people that not all clowns are scary.

I don't get it. Clowns are pretty great. They can be pretty hospitable too, the one I met sure as hell knew how to throw a party.

I didn't know him well or anythin'. I crashed a party on his ship and ate a lot and he let me stay. Buggy the clown is a pretty good guy. And he's got his own pirate crew too, so he's gotta be at least kinda strong.

I don't now about pirates, but if they have their own crew, I will go for yes he probably is.

You can't be weak and have your own crew. It's a death sentence. You don't want your men rebelling against you.

Both. There's no better expert than someone who's actually lived the life.

I guess that is true. I mean would be odd to work in a job you knew nothing about. Same can be said for pirates.

Though admittedly I only know so much from once working in a world that was full of them. Was always fun to win a game of cards.
