Video
[The video was pretty shakey for a moment, before getting steady and showing a blonde in all black and pink.]
I'm back! This is so weird... Big brothers, big sisters, I'm back! Let's spend time together.
Everyone else too. I want to meet lots of people this time. Let me know if you want to be friends, ok?
Action
[Elise was already wandering through Genessia City, healing staff clutched in her hands. She could head to Fayren later, but the modern city still fascinated her, and she wanted to see if anything was new. Not that she'd know, really. But first she has a couple of stops to make. She bounded up to the first person she saw.]
Hi! I just got back here, and I was wondering if you wanted to go to Moonbucks with me!
[The best way to make friends is to put yourself out there after all.]

Video
[He says, and always will say, to everyone.]
BUT HOW CAN I DO THAT WITHOUT A GREAT NAME, LIKE THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WHICH IS MINE???
Re: Video
[Why was he shouting though? And a skeleton??? Skeleton friend time!]
A great name? Is Elise great enough? Because that one's mine!
Re: Video
YES!! I SEE GREAT POTENTIAL IN THAT ONE!!
...
WANNA HANG OUT?? OR GET A JOB???
[Usually people like that second one.]
Re: Video
[She thought for a moment. She figured her older brothers would tell her to accept the job, but she really didn't want to worry about that right now. She wanted to make friends!]
I probably shouldn't say no to a job, but...
I'd really prefer to just hang out! I can worry about it later, right? I have the starter money still since I just got here. And I've never met a skeleton before. So I'd rather actually meet you than worry about silly old work.
Where do you usually spend your free time?
Re: Video
FAYREN!! WHICH IS ALSO WHERE I WORK!! AND WINDGATE CREEK, WHICH IS A VERY SIMILAR STORY!! AND SOMETIMES I GO TO OTHER FRIENDS' HOUSES IF THEY LIVE IN OTHER CITIES.
BUT I RECOMMEND THE FIRST ONE, SINCE I'M THERE THE MOST! YOU CAN HELP ME TRY THE PUZZLE I'VE BEEN WORKING ON!
[Don't do it. It's a literal trap. Sort of.]
Re: Video
Puzzles are a lot of fun! I'll head over right away! My key is to somewhere in Fayren too, so that works extra well!
...Where is that again?
Re: Video
["No time" being about half an hour, unless she got her cavalry back. It's cool; he's a patient Papyrus.]
THEN JUST HEAD INTO THE MOUNTAINS!! I'LL PING 'XACTLY WHERE!
[A blip on her device would lead her straight towards the outskirts of The Maw, Fayren's premier mountain, though close enough to civilization to keep pesky goblins at bay. It's a bit of a walk, but for hanging out, it's totally worth it. While she's on the way, he'll be checking his schematics, testing his pressure plates, and inspecting the sharpness of his deadly spikes. It'd been too long since he'd properly puzzled anyone. This is going to be great!]
Re: Video
[Elise started making her way south. She knew the way to Fayren, but had no clue why she was heading to the mountains there. At first, she was happy, almost skipping as she walked...But she barely made it into Fayren before she was wishing she had her horse here. If it took her longer than Papyrus was expecting for her to get there it was because she sat down for a few minutes and rested. Following her device, she eventually made it to The Maw. Suddenly this didn't seem like a good idea anymore. She griped her staff tighter, and pressed forward.]
Papyrus? I'm here! ...I think...
Re: Video
She'd arrive to find a methodical arrangement of rocks and boulders, between which lied a maze-like path of blue X's. Beyond that lay a row of silver spikes, gleaming menacingly in the summer sun. Beyond that was Papyrus, whose eyes lit up the moment she came into view. It's really happening! He cleared his throat, rearranged his smile into one more adversarial, and got into character.]
HALT, HUMAN!
[He'd no idea if that was her race, but this was the monologue his nostalgia revived.]
THIS HANGOUT SESH WILL PROCEED NO FURTHER! UNLESS YOU CAN SOLVE MY DASTARDLY PUZZLE!! AS YOU CAN SEE, THE WAY TO THE MONSTER ON THE OTHER SIDE IS BLOCKED BY THESE DEADLY SPIKES!!! IS YOUR FRIENDLINESS STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERCOME ALL OBSTACLES!?
[If Elise were somehow even nerdier than he was, she'd recognize this as a "Hamiltonian Path" puzzle, where the goal was to visit each node once and only once. Said nodes were represented by blue X's, which would turn to red O's if stepped on once, then green triangles when stepped on again. She was welcome to walk around the outside and observe the whole arrangement, which was a meticulous display of overpasses, underpasses, and impassable rocks that limited her movement. She could start anywhere along the perimeter, but once inside, stepping out again would reset the puzzle; good to do if she makes a mistake. Being a FE character, she's probably an expert in moving in grids. The game was afoot! He was grinning so wide.]
LET ME KNOW IF YOU REQUIRE SOME HELPFUL HINTS!!!
Re: Video
Deadly spikes?! I thought we were supposed making friends! Friends don't threaten-oh.
[It seems like the rest of his speech finally caught up with her.]
I still don't think you should've put deadly spikes here, but....
[She stepped cautiously around the puzzle, prodding places with the bottom of her staff. She hoped that the only spikes were the row ahead, but she knew better than to assume. All the while she looked at the path. After returning to where she started, she finally walked up to the path itself and poked it with her staff. Nothing happened. She stepped on it, and it turned red. She immediately jumped off, but the only thing that happened was that it turned blue again. She stepped back on, and then to another on, and then back to the first one to see it change color again. She figured out quickly enough that not only was changing color and shape all it did, it only did it thrice unless she stepped out. She made all of them green first, but that didn't do anything. But she was sure that it had something to do with the colors. She mummbled words like 'what if' as she kept trying. It took a few other tries of making patterns with the colors before her face lit up.]
I need to turn them all red, don't I?
Re: Video
PLEASE DON'T SAY "LASER-CAGE."
[Puzzling 101 pretty much forbids that. Laser-animus aside, he's as jolly as ever soliciting commentary. Despite his campaign promises, he'd yet to infest Fayren when any puzzles whatever. He wanted to make sure they were beloved by all! How could Elise not like spikes? That's as silly as disliking Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Kids love 'em! Well, thank goodness he's here to provide such a necessary and enjoyable formative experience.
His gaze and his smile never waver while Elise pokes and prods. Golly, for him, puzzles were twice as fun as a spectator sport. He's more of a creator than a doer at heart, and what pleasure it brought him to see a friend enjoying his creations. If only they treated his spaghetti the same way.]
YEAH!! THAT'S THE ONLY ONE YOU HAVEN'T DONE YET. PAINT THE PRESSURE-PLATE TOWN RED!!!
Re: Video
[With all the talk of lasers (whatever they were) and deadly spikes, she probably shouldn't mention Papyrus to her brother.]
I'm going to, you'll see!
[It actually took her less time to figure out the puzzle once she knew the goal of it. She tried 4 times from the center where she first entered, getting to 1 left 3 of those time, and just completely screwing up the first one. She could feel herself getting frustrated, huffed and stomped her foot. But then she took a breath, and she stepped back and looked.]
Oh!
[She started from the corner and carefully went around the puzzle that way. She ended up painting herself into a corner once, but then realized her mistake and went back and did it right the next time. After all the pressure plates were red, she turned to Papyrus with a grin.]
Yay! I did it! My friendliness is the strongest!
Re: Video
[He's not opposed to high-tech puzzles, but they can be a little decadent. Not like spikes' classic, timeless appeal. Speaking of which, once the last circle goes up, a hefty clack resounds as the row of spikes retracts. Elise has solved the way to Papyrus, just like meeting another puzzle-lover was the way to his heart.]
WOWIE, YOU SURE DID AND IT SURE IS!!! GOOD JOB!!!
[Best hang out ever! The pacing of the puzzle couldn't have been better. Challenging enough to satisfy, but not too tough to frustrate. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
It did leave him at a loss for what to do next though. How could he top that? How could he ensure that a cool puzzler like her thought he was cool too?]
THE GREAT PAPYRUS COULD UNDERSTAND HOW SUCH A TOUGH-YET-EXCELLENT PUZZLE COULD TUCKER YOU OUT! DO YOU NEED A RIDE HOME?
...OR WE COULD FIGHT!
[That's another great way to make friends!]
Re: Video
Fight?! You can't make friends by fighting! Just like you can't with deadly spikes or laser cages!
[She puffed out her cheeks as she got closer to Papyrus.]
That isn't ok! Friends should spend time together and be able to trust each other. The puzzle was fun, yes. But what if I gotten hurt by the spikes? Leo wouldn't have been happy with either of us then! Friends should be able to have parties, and play games together, and hold hands, and yes puzzles are a part of that too. But they shouldn't be so dangerous!
And fighting is definitely something friends don't do. When fighting, someone always gets hurt! I've seen it, and it's awful! Fighting should be a last resort to anything! Besides, I heal people when they fight. I don't fight myself.
[She started smiling again, and seemed to calm down.]
If you promise to leave anything deadly away from me though, I'd still like to be friends. And do puzzles of course.
Re: Video
AND WHO'S LEO!?
[Boy that ran counter to everything Undyne taught him. He knew for a bone-a-fide fact that some people were way into it. He was! Or thought he was. He hadn't gotten into any fights here either, but he was open to the idea!]
SO ARE YOU SAYING THAT IF WE FOUGHT, YOU WOULDN'T TRUST ME TO BE FRIENDLY ABOUT IT...?
W-WELL, IF THAT'S HOW YOU REALLY FEEL, WE DON'T HAVE TO. BUT! I THINK YOU SHOULD KEEP AN OPEN MIND ABOUT FRIENDSHIP!! WHILE ALL THOSE ACTIVITIES YOU SAID ARE VERY COOL, IT CAN COME FROM OTHER ONES TOO!!
Re: Video
[Elise full on beamed at the question.]
Leo is my big brother! One of them anyway. The only one in Genessia. He's the second prince of Nohr, and he is the smartest person ever! He knows everything, I'm pretty sure. And he can come up with loopholes for a lot of Father's orders. And he always beats me at chess, but its still fun playing with him. And he can wield Brynhildr which is an super powerful magic tome. I always learn things when we spend time together too, and he doesn't make it too hard for me to understand which is great because a lot of smart people make things way too complicated, but not Leo! He has a tendency to put on his collar wrong, but its okay because it's funny when he realizes it. And he tries not to seem like it a lot, but he's really nice. I don't know what I would do without him...
...But I don't think Leo would be too happy if he found out I was around deadly spikes...So we better not tell him, ok?
An open mind? I guess...But I just don't see how fighting can make people better friends....All I've seen from people fighting are injuries and death, and neither of those are great for friendship....
Re: Video
YEAH...BROTHERS ARE...PRETTY COOL.
[Though, now that he thought about, 99% of the time, fighting was about beating up bad guys or preparing to.]
FIGHTING DOESN'T HAVE TO INVOLVE VIOLENCES! ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE GOOD AT DODGING!!
[But as much as he wants to be dangerous, he could take or leave it recreationally. Not a hill to die on.]
BUT THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS VERY UNDERSTANDING IF YOU'RE NOT INTO IT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE ONLY SEEN NEGATIVES. WHY, IF YOU ARRIVED EVEN A WEEK AGO, YOU'D HAVE SEEN ALL THE COOL POKEMON THAT WERE SUPER FRIENDLY AND SUPER VIOLENT!! I COULD EVEN SHOW YOU ONE RIGHT NOW, IF YOU'RE STILL DOWN FOR A COOL RIDE!
Re: Video
[Elise gave him a look that said she didn't believe him about fighting and violence.]
They were friendly and violent??? That doesn't sound...[Elise paused.] If you promise that whatever a Pokeymon is, it won't hurt me, then alright. I'm down for a cool ride.
[She still held her staff in front of her, as if it would help if she got attacked.]
Re: Video
[He says more as a pained confession than a fact. His eyes squint out of habit.]
HE'S NOT AS COOL AS YOURS, AND DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF VERY WELL. I'D BE WORRIED SINCE I'M NOT THERE TO DO THAT FOR HIM, BUT DUE TO, UM, TIME STUFF AND DIMENSIONAL DIFFERENCES, PEOPLE SAY IT'S OKAY...
[He meagerly understands the alleged quantum mechanics between Genessia and their homeworlds, and likely wouldn't sound much more confident if he did. Sci fi stuff was more his brother's thing.
But who has time to be mopey about lame brothers!? He's with a much cooler friend, even if they do have weird hang-ups about fighting!]
GREAT!! I'LL GET HIM OUT RIGHT AWAY! FEEL FREE TO SCOLD HIM IF HE MISBEHAVES. THAT'S WHAT I DO!!
[He takes out a pokeball, pops it open, and in a flash of light comes Landorus, the rust-colored genie of the land.]
HE'S A LEGENDARY!!
[Translation: be impressed by this.]
HE HELPS ME ON PATROLS. HOP ON THE CLOUD, THEN HUG HIS WAIST! AND DON'T LET HIM GET AWAY WITH ANY DUMB JAPES!!!
[He looked at it pointedly. Unfortunately, it had a "Naughty" nature, and the greatest pokeminds have yet to find a cure.]
Re: Video
Does that mean time's not moving back home? Or that we're still back...home? [She was squinting now too.]
As long as my other siblings aren't missing Leo and me, and are all ok, I guess either works...
[She stared at the pokemon in something that could be misunderstood as awe...Or worry. It was like nothing she had ever seen before. She put on her brave face and climbed on the cloud and hugged his waist.]
No japes, ok? Wait. Papyrus, what about you?
Re: Video
UM, YEAH! SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
[It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but Papyrus followed suit. As vehicular mons go, Landorus is a two-seater.]
I'M GOING WITH YOU, OF COURSE!! WHO WOULD DRIVE IF I DIDN'T!?
[No way is he letting this guy out of his sight. Can't just have Landorus' running around willy-nilly.]
SO WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
Re: Video
The...[She fidgetted with her box of new things for a moment, looking for the name.] Dancing Donner is what the key is for. So, I guess that's where I live now.
[Putting her box back together, she held on to the pokemon.]
Ok, I'm ready. Let's go!
Re: Video
THAT'S A NEAT PLACE TO HAVE A HOUSE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE PARTIES. THEY CAROUSE EVERY DAY DOWN THERE!
[Is a pub a good place for a respectable young lady to live? Probably not, but he believes in her ability to steer clear from too much drink.]
OKAY LANDORUS, NO LOOP-DE-LOOPS! NO FANCY TRICKS! RESPECT ALL TRAFFIC LIGHTS! I MEAN IT!!! OKAY, NOW YOU CAN FLY TO THE DD.
[Premature finger-wagging complete, Papyrus climbs aboard the cloud at the base of Landorus' torso. It smiled, chortling, and took off.
At speeds entirely too fast. The kind that pulled one's lips back and roiled their gums. Papyrus didn't have those organs, yet he still didn't appreciate the good time they were making.]
AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
[A screaming skeleton streaked across the sky. Cursed legendary! Of course it would find a way to obey the letter of his laws while violating the spirit. Papyrus hung on for dear life, flapping like a flag as it tore through the air. Happily it was a straight line, and didn't last long. Landorus touched down, churning through earth to reduce its speed as it ground down to a stop. Papyrus would kiss the sweet, sane earth, had he lips.]
W-WELL, HERE WE ARE!! PRETTY FAST, HUH!?
[Please, oh please, take those mach speeds for a positive.]
Re: Video
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
[It's a really good thing Elise had so much experience with giving bear hugs, or else she might have lost her grip on the pokemon. She was able to hold on though. When they stopped, it took Elise a few moments to loosen her her grip on the pokemon and slide off. She was shaking as she looked at Papyrus. It wasn't his fault they went that fast, she reminded herself.]
Y-yeah...I'd say so. I suppose this is the end of our hanging out today?
We'll do this again though, right?
Re: Video
OF-OF COURSE!! THAT WAS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY PUZZLES!! WE CAN ALSO PLAY BASKETBALL OR DEVISE GREAT STRATEGIES WITH MY ACTION FIGURES...THE SKY'S THE LIMIT!
BUT FOR NOW, PLEASE GIVE YOUR BRAIN A REST. I HOPE YOU REUNITE WITH YOUR BRO VERY SOON!
[Would he were so lucky.]
Re: Video
I will, thank you. I hope you get to see your brother again too.
[She made a face at the place she was going to be staying, before heading towards it.]
Bye bye!
Re: Video
BYE-BYE'S AREN'T ALLOWED IN MY CITY. JUST SEE-YOU-LATER'S!!
video;
[Which now makes him wonder if Camilla and Xander will show up soon again.]
Where are you? I'll come meet you.
Re: video;
[Elise looked around.]
I'm in Genessia City....Around uhm...The strip mall. Do you know where that is?
Are our siblings going to be coming with you?
no subject
[Which that is its own mess of problems, but he is not important. Now Elise? Elise is important.]
I will find my way quite quickly, don't worry. I haven't been gone from here so long that I can't read its map anymore.
no subject
[She didn't want to be without any of her siblings though, they were all really important to her! But maybe they'll show up again too. And at least Leo was here. Nothing could go wrong with Leo here, he was so smart! She gave him a weak smile, and tried to be cheerful.]
But that's ok. You and I can spend lots of time together! Right?
I'll stay right here until you get here.
no subject
[Leo, admittedly, was somewhat uncomfortable with the idea of being alone here-- especially with Takumi. Even if their most recent encounter was actually somewhat civilized. But surely that was just a novelty.]
As much time as you'd like, barring my teaching hours, of course. [He has to provide for them both, after all.] I'll be right there.
[And true to his word, he makes his way to
(what he's fairly sure is)the strip mall in question. He'll be looking for those ever familiar pigtails, while calling out for her. This place was bigger than he remembered, oops.]Elise? Are you here?
no subject
[Elise was sitting on a bench at the strip mall, 4 shopping bags of stuffed animals and clothes on either side of her, and a mostly empty Moonbucks cup in her hands. Clearly, she's been very responsible with her starting money. She heard Leo before she saw him.]
Big brother! I'm over here!
[She quickly grabbed all her new possessions, before running over to him.]
I forgot how much I loved this place! There's just so much! And the strip mall seems to have shops for everything! I wonder if next time I'll be able to find a place that sells a nice chess set.
video;
Elise... Welcome back.
Re: video;
[She was excited to see him again in a friendly place. She really wanted to continue trying to be friends.]
I'm glad to be back.
We should meet up sometime!
[Action]
But she seems nice. And he has responsibilities as a deputy to behave himself. So he nods.] Yeah, okay. Haven't been there in a while. [He offers his hand for a handshake.] I'm Ace.
Re: [Action]
I'm Princess Elise of Nohr. [Shifting her staff to one hand she started to curtsy when she saw him hold out his hand. She looked confused for a second, before remembering. She straightened up, and shook his hand.] It's a pleasure to meet you.
Moonbucks is this way if I remember right!
[Action]
Good to meet you. Now let's get ourselves some Moonbucks. [He's pretty sure that she's right, he hasn't spent a lot of time there, but it seems like they're heading in the right path as they set off.]
Re: [Action]
What are you going to get?
[Action]
Probably something with chocolate. There's a hot coffee drink with chocolate that's sweet, I like that one. [The weather isn't great for that, at least for most people it's far too hot still for a hot drink. But Ace isn't bothered by the heat in any form.]
Re: [Action]
[She made a face at the mention of getting something hot to drink.] Sweet drinks are the best I think! I always have to put a lot of cream and sugar in my tea to get rid of the bitterness.
no subject
Yeah, sweet drinks are way better. Coffee is better and gross if it's plain.
no subject
Coffee or no coffee is fine by me to be honest. As long as any bitterness is covered up with something sweet.
I don't understand how some people can drink it plain...
We're almost there! ...I think...
*bitter, sorry.
[Ace peers a bit and then nods. He thinks they're pretty darn close now.] Yeah! Almost there. Then we can get something fun to drink. [They're not wrong. The cafe comes into view soon after that. Ace grabs the door for both of them, so they can get in quickly.]
