(Ninth Flight - Video)

(Hatchlings must grow and the two Daenerys and Rhaegar have been caring for are finally ready to spread their wings. Drogon is there to keep watch, a curious flower crown on his brow.)

You can do it. Stretch them out...

(The little Dragons watch her with the same intensity they would their actual mother, stretching out one wing and then the other.)

Now flap them like Uncle Drogon.

(Tiny screeches of glee follow that command and the tiny Dragons jump upward to catch the wind under their wings.)

[When Liora realizes what Dany is doing, she peers closely into the screen, her eyes widening with excitement.]

Are they learning to fly??

They are. (She beams, so very proud.) It won't be long now. Do you want to congratulate them?

Oh, yeah!

[She peers into her screen, focusing on the hatchlings.]

Congratulations...!

[She falters, suddenly looking puzzled.]

Um...what are their names?

(The hatchlings vie for the best view of the communicator, chirping and staring at her.)

The purple is Hāedar and the red and black is Valonqar. ("Little Sister" and "Little Brother" in Valyrian.)

Hāedar...and Valonqar? Okay...

[She looks cheerfully into the screen now.]

Congratulations, Hāedar and Valonqar! When you get better at flying, we should take a flight around Fayren sometime! And Daenerys can ride on Drogon's back! That sounds like fun, doesn't it?

[She pauses, contemplating.]

Hāedar and Valonqar...those are interesting names...

Little sister and little brother in my native tongue.

(She bends down to gather the little Dragons so that they can focus on Liora without too much distraction. Two pairs of bright eyes answer Liora's idea and Daenerys laughs.)

That sounds perfect. We will have a wonderful time.

They're tryin' really hard. They're gonna be great fliers.

They will do credit to their parents. Little Dragons are always eager to fly.

I guess anything with wings wants to be free of the ground fast... [Ace honestly could watch them practice their flight all day.]

Their instincts are guiding them. (She lifts the purple girl Dragon - Hāedar - and kisses her cheek.) I trust they will come back to me.

That one really likes you. Are they all that close to you? [Ace doesn't quite realize how important the dragons are to her.]

She is my daughter. (Little Hāedar peeks at him, her tail curling around Daenerys's arm.) Valonqar is her brother and he is more attached to my brother.

So you're a mom, huh? [This is kind of neat. Ace doesn't pretend to understand how things work with complicated relationships, but obviously the lady is married to a dragon and he can respect that.] Congratulations. You've got cute kids. [They're a hell of a lot less scary than human babies are. And that peering is adorable.]

...yes, I am. (The title still hurts. She has wanted nothing more than to hold her baby - or babies - in her arms. But she is cursed; it will never be. So the Dragons are substitutes.)

They are beautiful. (She smiles with open love, her brows rising in pleasant surprise when the red and black Dragon climbs onto her knee.)

I have arms enough for both of you.

[Ace can pick up on something being wrong here, but he's not a mind-reader, and frankly not the most brilliant when it comes to emotional issues. So he lets it go.]

They really are. Dragons are so cool. [He makes a snort of a laugh at the dragon that climbs onto her. It's just like any other little kid, demanding attention.] I guess kids always want attention.

My family has a special connection with them. (She has a Dragon in each arm now and the purple girl yawns contentedly.) The Dragons in my world are a bit different than these.

(Daenerys is an expert at gently bouncing the pair, smiling at how they settle against her.)

Drogon? (The much, much, much larger Dragon creates a shadow before he comes into view, looking curious.) This is my eldest son.

[Back home, some people had connections to different creatures, so this wasn't particularly shocking news to Ace.] What's the difference between these guys and the ones back in your home world?

[Ace waves this time, trying to be friendly to her kids.] Hey! Good to meet you. [There's something bittersweet and amazing about how close their family is. Ace never got to meet his mother, she died soon after he was born. So he's really happy that these little guys get to know their mom.] They're lucky to have you.

Don't be shy. (Daenerys murmurs to the jewel bright babies. Both of them peek up at her and then chirp at Ace, tails wagging. They are good and unafraid of most things, though like all young creatures, they are prone to some shyness.) I'm not their birth mother, but they needed help hatching. My brother and I took on responsibility for them until they are strong enough to fend for themselves.

(Drogon can be seen behind Daenerys, content to be near her.)

The Dragons of Westeros start at this size - or smaller - but they can grow and grow for the rest of their lives. I believe Drogon... (She motions at her son.) is the largest Dragon, Balerion, reincarnated.

So you took them in, huh? [He still thinks the dragons are pretty well off with a loving mom like Daenerys. Ace is glad for the little family of dragons. They've got it good, here, at least from how he sees it.

They're so cute too. He didn't think that dragons would act this way.] So he's gonna be a big deal, huh? I don't get it, but reincarnation can't be easy. So if he's with you, he's gonna have a better time handling things. [He wonders if dragons reincarnated will get memories of their past, or if it'll affect him mentally.]

How could we do otherwise? (She sets the pair down by Drogon, who sniffs them. Hāedar sniffs back and Valonqar curls against the great Dragon's side.)

I wasn't able to give him the life he deserves. (Daenerys has a lot of regrets, but that one is the greatest.) I will change that here.

A lot of people wouldn't bother. And if they did, they wouldn't be so nice about it. [Ace watches is fascination as the dragons interact. There's something really sweet about them.]

This place is good for that. It makes for second chances. And I guess there's not a lot that's better than a do-over.

That doesn't speak well of the populace, though caring for Dragons is difficult. (Drogon is given some extra affection for being so understanding. He closes his eyes and lets out a deep, happy rumble.)

If I can give him a better life - find him a mate - then coming here was a blessing.
