I have a question for the people of this place: How do you view vampires?

[Action; Locked to Maka, Kid, Soul (maybe Spirit if he knocks)]

[It has been a couple days, but the apartment has served his purposes fairly well. The big black wolf that followed Maka home one night always finds the darkest parts of the apartment to lounge during the day, and is always absent at night. He makes no mess, doesn't even shed. One of the most low-maintenance animals out there, really.]

[Action at night]

[Tonight, Dracula is exploring the satellite cities in turn, alternating between bats, wolf, and his more human forms. He is constantly surprised by what lies beyond each gate. It's almost as if walking through time and space itself. Still, he will be exploring all of it.]

Vampires...

[She ponders, as if she can actually answer without knowing what vampires are.]

...What exactly are these...vampires?

[It's still unusual that this wolf, though having magical attributes and--indeed--not looking like a normal wolf, didn't speak at all. Maka wouldn't even be able to ascertain his name, and she doesn't want to offend him by assigning him another. He's very quiet, never needs to be taken out to the park to do business, doesn't actually eat or drink much at all. When he does, it's only when Maka managed to get the freshest, most recent cut off the butcher block--still raw enough to be "bloody."

And then there's the preference to be in the dark, which Maka tries to accommodate for--and is doing so right at the moment--by drawing the shades shut during the day. She doesn't mind the dark herself, though these little pieces begin to nag at her about being very familiar, like something she read in a book once.

Except...she's thinking too hard. She can explain all of the oddities: he's a magic creature and a wolf for that matter. Wild creatures are independent, one doesn't tell them what to do. Of course he would only want the rawest meat, of course he would be solitary about his business. And the dark...well, his eyes are red, maybe that indicates light sensitivity. She really has no place questioning a magic creature, Maka herself wasn't born with magic after all.

She finishes with drawing the shades and turns to examine the environment, hands on her hips as though this is a very serious project to overlook. It seems decently dark to her, but maybe not enough. Maybe she should look into getting sun screens installed, she doesn't want the wolf to be uncomfortable.

Though, she hasn't seen him since she began fussing with the shades. Maybe he's napping...she should try to keep quiet, in that case. Just sit on the couch and make a list of what to do today. Nothing would get done if she didn't make these lists, after all, listing chores and who's doing them today. As usual, she gets absorbed in her work and her thoughts, though they occasionally wander back to where the wolf is right now and if he's all right.]

Undead beings that feed on the blood of mortals to survive, strictly speaking.

[The wolf is actually just behind you, Maka, head poking out from behind the closet door. Closets are nice like that. No need for natural lighting, and they even have a door most of the time. Makes it nice and cramped. Almost coffin-like.]

[It never changes, the feeling of being watched. Maka's just finishing up "fruit sandwiches for lunch" when the shiver up her spine hits.

In her senses, there's only something "animal" there, so she turns to squint into the gloom and sees a pair of red eyes staring out.]

Oh, there you are! I was wondering about you, were you asleep? Sorry if you were, I was just making things a little darker in here for you.

[The wolf cocks his head, looking toward the window, and back at Maka, as if to say "Really, it's dark enough in the closet. Don't bar the window. I leave from there."]

The window?

[That look speaks a thousand words, Maka hums in consideration.]

All right, all right, I can take a hint, I'll keep it open. [She tilts her head back to the wolf, smiling.] I don't suppose next you'll be wanting some comfy pillows and blankets for in there, will you?

Really? Hmm...well, it would only be natural to fear something that can...eat you. But mortals have their ways of defending themselves as well. That's life, I suppose...just an endless fight for survival.

[And yet she sound so remarkably casual about it.]

Blood-sucking parasites. But everyone already knows that, right?

I know there are some vampires in the world that are scary, but I know that not all of them are like that. Some just want to get along with others and not cause problems and I have to admit, I'm a bit of a optimist when it comes to humans and vampires getting along.

Vampires, hm? They are simply another type of being that some people don't believe in that are very clearly real. The ones I have met were not what could be described as very scary. They were actually quite adorable.

I suppose the best way to answer it would be that I don't think of vampires at all. I mean, I would not if someone was one. But that by itself is not grounds to like or dislike someone. Merely a little bit of information to tuck away in the back of my head.

You would be in the minority in my world. Vampires are oft seen as unholy abominations, not that they ever asked to be turned into what they are.

[He just shakes his head, preferring the hard floorboards. He retreats into the closet, curling up in a corner, angled so that he can see all of Maka's room as well as past her door into the other rooms. This is more than adequate.]

And what of those that are turned against their will, and go out of their way to seclude themselves, feeding only on animals to prevent the curse from spreading?

[He makes note of that face before responding. She could be a potential tool should he ever need allies.]

If only more of your kind shared that line of thinking. In truth, most vampires never asked for their curse. It was forced upon them by another. And yet they are still hunted as if common beasts, when they have done nothing wrong.

It is nice to hear that [~~Richter~~] the prevailing thought in my world is overshadowed by the open-mindedness of this wold. It is rather refreshing, to be honest.

Oh, are you faced with undeserved hatred simply for being different? Because I rather doubt you would be asking about vampires if you were not one yourself. Or at least if someone you knew was. Either way, it is simple childishness to judge based solely on what someone is, rather then what they do.

[Which is not to say this woman does not have her own prejudices. They simply don't include vampires.]

Speaking solely for myself, I could scarcely care less if you happen to be one. I'd recommend not trying to take my blood though. I am not trying to threaten you, it merely might not be what you expect.

They...turned into vampires? What were they before?

Human. When a vampire feeds on the blood of a mortal, one of two things happen. The victim either becomes the vampire's thrall, bound to the will of the vampire for eternity, or they become a vampire themselves.

That is how vampires replenish their numbers. They seek out those of strong wills, and feed on them. However, often times those turned are unwilling and revile what they have become.

In my world, vampires are all considered unholy abominations and the Church trains and outfits hunters to track and murder those that simply wish to live their accursed days in solitude.

[He chuckles a bit.]

Do not worry. I am an old enough vampire to have discovered ways to suppress those urges. I have not fed on the blood of a human in centuries.

[...Except he totally has.]

...I don't like the sound of that. I'm glad there's nothing like that where I come from...

[It made her think about Level E's and the fact when vampires fall into that level...human vampires that they are hunted down. She remembered one went for her when she was only five and how scary that was. But never the less that didn't stop her revolve or even the fact that she herself was suppose to be a pureblood vampire.]

In my world only vampires who have fallen to a certain level are hunted due to their bloodlust overcoming there senses. Those types were once human themselves and... I'm sure some of them would have never asked for that to happen. [She knew Zero was one of them. He was here now and he didn't even know her as Yuuki Cross any more. Only as what she is suppose to be.]

I have to ask for the reason for the question.

Unholy abomination? How quaint. I haven't heard a term like that in many years. But then, I suppose the term 'holy' itself means precious little to me. Most beings that are considered gods or goddesses are not that special once you get to know them.

[It isn't obvious if she believes him or not, but the woman is certainly going to address his claims.]

But you say you don't partake in blood? Forgive me if I am incorrect, but I had thought it was necessary for survival when it came to your kind. The ones I knew were like that at least.

It is not an easy fate to bear, nor is it one that is asked for.

In mine, they are all lumped into that category, and the Church's flames reach all who deviate from their strict dogma.

I ask out of curiosity, primarily. It has also come to my attention that one of the Church's dogs is within this place. At one point I served that very church myself, so I know the strength of the venom they peddle, and the charisma with which they sell it.

I suppose I was gauging whether or not the viper has bitten.
