[5th Breath | Video] Fayren City Guardian

[After weeks of torment, Azula has gotten the City Guardian position. No need to waste her time with hunting and barely earning enough to fund herself. Plus, this was a job which she knew she would be good at. Her mentors and father had trained her sufficiently since she could remember. For now, she sat in a chair in the middle of the forest. Behind her were citizens of Fayren and some magical creatures trying to build her new office. She was efficient after all, and did not need to spend too much time squatting within the castle walls.]

Whilst certain preparations are being made, I'd like to take this time to thank those who have shown confidence in my skills. I also would like to extend my appreciation to Satsuki, who showed great support in my campaign. I will keep to my duties as not to fail the royal family of Fayren. [Which is to say, she'll help address the issue with Mewtwo.]

I must, however, inform everyone in advance that I have a conservative approach when it comes to protecting citizens. But rest assured, none will violate any innate rights. [Meaning: she does not like seeing naked guys and will address the issue without resorting to violence ~~mostly~~.] I will do anything to make sure everyone's safety is guaranteed.

Lastly, I am allowed an infinite number of assistants known as deputy guardians. Presently, I'm looking to hire 3 for the position. Aside from a generous paycheck, this is a position of great responsibility. So I would require anyone interested to display adequate fighting skills and military knowledge. [Meaning, you'll have to fight her to get the position.]

Hanabishi, I haven't seen you as of late. If you do see this, however, I would advice you take the position as my deputy guardian. I have great confidence in your skills.

It seems like the spirits are smiling upon us, Zuzu. [No more hunting and no more tea serving for them. To think she was worrying so much about their current situation.]

Quick. I need you to go to the Employment office and register your name as one of my deputies. I've already submitted my approval on the matter.

Congratulations on your victory, Azula.

[ She isn't sure that she wants to volunteer to help Azula, even if she's sure she's qualified. That doesn't mean Weiss is going to dispose of pleasantries. ]

Thank you. Hopefully, if things have settled and arrangements have been made, I should be able to invite people to a thanksgiving party. I still have to confer with the royal majesties, but it should be something to look forward to at one point.

I hope I would merit an invitation to something like that.

[ She won't assume but she's pretty confident she better. ]

I'm not the type of guardian who slacks on the job. If something needs to be addressed, I'll do it. Most especially if its a ruling from the royal family of Fayren. More importantly, I won't allow anyone to disobey the laws for the good of the citizens.

[He rubs his chin in thought for a moment before what OBVIOUSLY is the biggest issue here comes blurted out.]

Wait, Fayren has a royal family!?

[She tries very hard to keep a calm and placid facial expression at his words. Seriously, first it was Zuko, then it was Weiss, and now it was Gildarts. Don't they know the castle has a royal family in it?]

I take it you've been too busy and haven't explored the possibility of the city having a ruler?

[He just offers a sheepish grin.]

Hey, I'm doing good if I don't get lost on my way back to the guild. Besides, never really been one for politics myself.

Care to explain what you mean by conservative approach?

I suppose you could look at it this way, I did not run to be a guardian so people could love me or adore me. I'm here to do a job, and regardless of my personal feelings towards a person, I will implement the laws passed on by the royal family and the spirits within the city.

And what if you come up against someone that you or the forces you command can't possibly defeat? I hear there are a lot of strong being roaming this place. Mewtwo, for one.

I'm not really scared of that psychic freak. I know what he's capable of, and trust me, you should still fear me more.

Watch the language, Azula. I'm not afraid of either of you. Least of all you.

I don't really care what you think. My job is clear and it tears me that I have to hunt down someone who showed much promise. I would have thought he would take a job as deputy underneath me. [Lies] After all, those who want to be guardians of each city have every intention of protecting the city in which they live. So if you can't do it one way, you do it the other.

I never expected him to be this bitter about it. [Lies]

I'm sure it just destroys you to have to do it. But you should really leave him alone. I am trying to get him to open up more to humans, and your little manhunt is only going to hurt that.

Congratulations. [ zuko grins at her, and she ought to be pleased to see that her big brother is not only wearing fire nation colors again, but is also wearing his hair up with a crown in place. just as he said he would. ] I see I was right. You had nothing to worry about. The people knew the proper choice to make.

It's already been taken care of. I quit the tea shop last week. [ she wouldn't be able to get him to stop liking tea, but at least he wasn't making it for the public anymore. ] But I have one condition: Your other deputy guardians do not exceed my authority. I should be the one sitting at your right, not one of them.

What are you talking about? I was never worried. [Though, she does smile at the sight of him dressing like he's a Fire Nation Prince again. And perhaps, she was smiling because she won. She genuinely thought that the odds would be against her. It was hard to clean up her name after her initial encounter.]

Good. You were never suited for that. [Then she taps her chin gently with one of her fingers. A few moments of silence if only to get him on edge a bit, before she agreed.] Of course they should be able to acknowledge that you are my brother. You are family and I couldn't trust anyone more than I could trust you. Either way, all five deputies would have to answer to me. And we all answer to the royal family.

Keep telling yourself that and maybe you'll believe it. [ but it was said in good humor with a grin on his face. he knew she'd been worried, had seen that look on her face and been able to read between the lines when she spoke that day in the tea shop. he had mixed feelings about everything lately, but he was glad that she hadn't lost. because she's his sister.

and admittedly, zuko had ulterior motives when it came to assisting her with her tarnished image. he was hoping to change her for the better, to instill goodness and open her mind and eyes to the world around her that existed beyond the fire nation and to maybe start seeing that their father was wrong. it was perhaps a misguided pipe dream, but a brother couldn't help but hope his sister could become a better person. azula had the potential to be better, if only people like their father wouldn't keep squashing what they deemed to be "weakness" within her. ]

So, you don't want me to make tea like they do back home for us? [ even she had to admit, the tea here, when not made by his hands, was awful. it lacked the high quality and finesse of tea served in the fire nation, especially at the palace. ] Guess I can stock up on that chilled, bottled version they dare to call tea for you instead.

Huh. You actually won. [Grimmjow was honestly a little curious to see what Satsuki would do if Azula lost.]

Is it really that surprising? [Satsuki really did one hell of a job to turn things around to Azula's favor.]

Yeah. But a win is a win, so I guess it doesn't matter too much.

Yes. It took a while, but I've ceased the position I've desired. [At least, so far. Next up, Ruler of Fayren.]

How about you? I'm sure you've been busy as of late.

I've been around. I talked to Satsuki recently. She wants to see the world where I came from, since I made a sub-archway to it.

Good luck to you, I suppose. I was once an assistant to the previous Guardian but I have little motivation to resume those duties. It wasn't challenging enough in the end.

I appreciate the sentiment. But why did you step down?

I was sent home for two years but it looks like a month or so passed here. I had considered stepping down even before leaving though. I needed something more challenging.

[Words cannot describe how pleased Satsuki is that Azula pulled the win here. It was a lot closer than she would have liked.]

Congratulations, Azula, that was quite the close race.

I suspect things may be a little shaky with our different upbringings, but I look forward to working together with you once the opportunity arises.
