WHEN: November 1, just as the Halloween madness is quieting down.
WHERE: the Hall of DoomJustice in Nova City, hidden underground beneath some of Lexcorp's many recent construction projects.


[Less than a day after the chaos of Halloween, the members of the Evil League of Evil receive a private text containing a time and location--a different entrance for each member, each hidden in or near a different Lexcorp building.

The means of ingress vary: a freight elevator that will go to a secret lower level with the correct combination of buttons, a long lightly-sloped tunnel with a hidden entrance and moving walkways, an elevator hidden behind an innocuous section of wall, even an underwater entrance accessed by a small submersible. What is the same for each is that they are all greeted by security personnel--not officially Lexcorp employees--who guide them to the secret entrances and into the Hall of doomJustice.

Luthor is sure to greet each arrival personally, accompanied by his cyborg bodyguard/assistant courtesy of the Metropolis sub-archway.

They've all spoken to Lex. Now it's time to meet each other and put this arrangement to the test.]

Indeed, the Hall has been under construction since mere days after my arrival. Subsidizing construction with extradimensional funding and labor has, of course, sped the effort considerably. [Luthor isn't overly concerned about siphoning resources from the Lexcorp on the other side of the Metropolis sub-archway. All evidence points strongly toward it being a simulation rather than a portal to the real thing.]

[When Kazuya arrives, he's already done away with his suit jacket, the jacket slung over his shoulder as he marched in, taking in his surroundings with less interest in what everything is, and more how it would effect a fight. As Mercy ushers him toward Lex, he gives the cyborg an appraising glance as well, silently wondering just how powerful it would be in a fight.]

[Once everyone had their fill with the meet and greet, Kazuya was the first to speak up, a smirk curling his lips.]

I'm sure everyone here has seen the recent news, correct? This... "John Everyman" throwing accusations at the various guardians and their allies, accusing them of corruption and rather... colorful crimes, yes?

Some time ago, I approached him and offered him asylum in my tower, on the condition he not stop his little game.

[He reaches into a pocket and produces a note, tossing it to the table for anyone to snatch up and examine.]

It seems he's run out of ideas and has asked me for suggestions. I think this could be an excellent opportunity for us, given his penchant for making his more explosive farces seem to hold more truth than they really do.

[ Having taken the freight elevator down, Mercury's had a bit of time to consider just how he'll approach this whole situation. Now that Cinder was here he was at her disposal, but that didn't mean he shouldn't try to branch out to other... like-minded individuals. At the very least, he might as well swing by and see just what they've got to offer, yeah?

One look at the base and he realizes this is an operation on a scale they simply can't afford to ignore.

He's already passed along the invite to Cinder, who was vague as usual about whether she'd actually show up or not - for now he sauntered in, hands in his pockets as he whistled quietly upon approaching Lex. ]

So I take it this isn't Baby's First Secret Base. Not bad.

[ He hadn't really planned on speaking up much beyond some basic howdy-do's, but this discussion had his attention pretty quickly. ]

Ohhhhhhh yeah, Johnny-boy really seemed to create a pretty big fuss. Hilarious, right?

[ He leans forward a bit, plucking the note from the table to skim it briefly. ]

Might be able to lend a hand, actually. There are a lot of folks from the world I'm from around here - might've done a little research on some of 'em. I can't make any promises until I talk it over with my boss, but maybe we can feed him some stories laced with actual truth.

But the question is... [ He tosses the note back onto the table, flipping a hand in the air boredly. ] Why? I don't mind doing it just for the sake of being a pain, personally, but I'm sure we didn't get this group going for the sake of spreading juicy gossip.

Indeed not. Mere chaos for the sake of it will only make it harder to find a way out of this prison. Let's not forget that it is a prison; escape should be a top priority.

[Lex is next to glance over the note, sliding it into a conveniently readable position and casting his eyes downward for a second to take in its contents before returning it to the center for whoever wants it next.]

However, control of the press is an advantage not to be overlooked. Quite the victory you've brought us, Mishima-san.

A well-timed smear campaign can work wonders. With this resource at our disposal, it's simply a matter of determining who is at once most troublesome and vulnerable to it.

Bison admired the digs. Hated the name, but clearly Lex had no qualms about throwing money around. Could use a few more skulls and other things to instill more terror, but this was good.

"I can see my alliance doesn't lack money; would be a pity of Shadaloo had weak allies."

I can tell! I'm going through a little culture shock here - I'm more used to the whole "working from an abandoned warehouse" kind of scene. It's gonna take some getting used to.

[ It's also clearly something to keep in the back of his mind at all times - Lex has resources for days. As an ally that makes him invaluable. If the day comes that they have to cross each other as enemies, it makes him trouble. A lot of money's worth of trouble.

And in this line of business, betrayal was usually an endgame somewhere along the lines. ]

So I'm guessing you've been here a while, huh? In Genessia, I mean.

[He arched an eyebrow, at the greeting. He wasn't exactly used to dealing with American businessmen that knew enough of Japanese culture to get the honorifics right. Color him impressed.]

So I see. Quite impressive really. Easily defensible, high visibility, and the entrances make for perfect ambush spots. My kind of place.

The Guardians in particular hold a great deal of power, both personally and politically. It would not be outside the realm of possibility that they use their position to come down on our operations.

I don't know how he fabricates his footage, nor do I really care. All that really matters is that we erode public support of the guardians. From there, it would be simply a matter of dealing with whatever power hey bring from their own worlds. Something I'm confident we are more than able to deal with.

[Kazuya does a bit of a double take at first. Mercury's striking resemblance to Jin catching him off guard slightly. Still, that sign set him apart from his own son. This one could be very useful.]

Looking for work? I might have an opportunity for you. I have been renting out robots produced in my tower to act as security to vendors throughout the city. I could use an extra pair of hands making sure those renting my services keep up with the maintenance fees.

It's a lamentable fact of life that some enterprises require such measures. A lesson I've learned from experience.

[If Lex has his way, the League will last long enough to make an escape from Genessia before it falls apart, or at least collapse in a cascade of betrayals that mysteriously leave Luthor himself untouched.

In case of things not going perfectly, as is reality's wont... he already has, at minimum, video of all the League members inside the Hall. It's a wonder how lifelike they can make cybereyes these days, and what you can fit in them. Ms. Graves really is practically indispensable.]

A few months. The experience I mentioned comes from my time in my own world. [left unsaid: the implications of getting all this built in mere months.]

He'd have to figure something out to ensure Bison wouldn't compromise the operation with his... unique perspective.

"I'm sure you can guess from the secrecy of the facility that anything like publicly revealing League members' identities, or for now its very existence, won't go over well. Naturally, many of our operations will be covert in nature--cloak and dagger, as you put it. But then I'm sure you'll find some of the benefits more to your taste." Lex gestured in the direction of Mercury and his rather blunt sign.

"I myself have certain products that may interest you," Weapons. He is talking about arms-dealing to Shadaloo. "Provided of course the transaction isn't easily traced."

[And Cinder was interested in this secret league that was brought up by Mercury, so she felt the need to come along. She had been busy for a while with her schemes, she finally showed up a little while later. Coming in with her own entrance, she glanced at the large facility.]

Not bad. It's certainly more cushy than I imagined it would be.

[ Frankly, he hadn't actually expected any results to speak of - so when approached with an actual, genuine offer, he perks up visibly and lowers the sign. ]
