[ it's midday and the streets, as expected, are full of people going about their lives. one thing that may or may not stand out among the crowd would be the dark-skinned, glowing-lined elf woman standing near the magazine rack looking extremely confused by everything happening around her. she's obviously new - the pendant hanging from her wrist, and the fact that she keeps looking around stupidly would indicate she arrived recently.

for a while all she does is just stand there, magazine in hand as she tries to read the nonsensical words inside.

then, when she steps a bit too close, the hologram of weiss appears and she yelps in surprise, jerks back with her hand up in a defensive position as wisps of color suddenly spark from her fingertips. the hologram blinks off, then back on in a split second in response to the elf's magic, and continues on as if nothing ever happened.

what the hell bro. ]

[ sometime later, after nearly having a heart attack over holograms and asking random strangers on the street, lioriley appears, staring at the screen. ]

...Hello? [ bueller? ]

[ Emerald's attempt to sneak into the Bay unnoticed #2 is clearly a bust as she approaches the entrance. Great. She's honestly never going to get into there to see if she can't snag some money before people know it's there to go missing. People don't look for things they don't know they have, so it's honestly the perfect crime.

You know, if this was the second time she's come exactly as someone was coming out of the entrance. She watches the woman-- whatever species she is, Emerald isn't sure, but it didn't really matter-- freak out at the hologram, then comes over. ]

It's a trick with light; if you want to break it you have to hit the projector. [ Which Emerald honestly doesn't care if she does, since it's the Schnee girl's money to keep that running. ] I'm real, but I don't want you attacking me either.

[ Though she was clearly better armed than a projection, a pair of sickles attached to her backside. Not that she could move as well as she normally would have, considering the large winter coat she was sporting. ]

[ the dark elf spins around when emerald speaks, and it's obvious that literally everything she just said makes no sense to her. she has to hit the what? how was that a trick of the light? did she mean it was magic? whatever, it doesn't matter, she said something about attacking her.

lioriley looks appalled by the very suggestion. ]

N-No, I would not attack you, miss. I had just been -- [ scared out of her fucking mind, because everything is way too advanced for her, ] Startled, that is all.

...Are you a native to this city?

[ It's a reasonable attitude for someone who isn't used to keeping their head in really weird situations. Emerald's assessment of situations tends to be not to reveal her cards until she has to, especially in difficult situations. You never know what you might need as a surprise. ]

I'm not, but I know my way around well enough. The thing you were attacking earlier has most of the basic information, but I don't mind helping if you still need anything.

[ lioriley's brows furrow slightly. she wants to protest that she wasn't attacking anything, it was just - instinctive, defensive. whatever, it's not worth the effort. ]

I am not entirely certain as to what I need, truthfully. Even if such information is as basic as you claim, I did not understand most of it. [ she reaches for the necklace she had been given prior, frowning. ] Such as this...

What's something they have in all worlds? Hm.. Oh!

[ Emerald moves a little closer, holding her own up to show her. ] Think of it like a key. Without it, you can't go to certain areas.

[ looks at emerald's pendant, then to her own. ]

Strange thing to use for a key, though I suppose I have little room to judge such things. [ she pockets the pendant now, ]

Have you been to the other areas?

You'll get it if you try to go through without it.

[ She nods. ] Sure, some of them. Why?

[She waved slightly at the device, a small smile of the other girls face.]

I assume you must be new, right?

[ the elf jerks back slightly, as if surprised someone actually popped up on the screen. ]

Oh - I... yes, I suppose I am. Are you one of the others brought here unwillingly?

[She nodded slightly.]

I am, I've been here a few months myself. So if you have questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

Thank you. [ she takes a moment to consider what to ask, peering off screen at something, ] Are you familiar with most of the technology here, by chance?

I've been here a few months now, so I know of it to an extent, but wouldn't consider myself an expert.

[But being here for a while helps in that way. She isn't so confused about it.]

Then you know more than I already. Perhaps it is something that needs to be learned with time. [ she doesn't know... anything about this crap. it's ridiculous. ]

Yeah, you'll learn things eventually. Just takes time.

[She smiles slightly.]

[He still couldn't work out what she was, but she didn't look like anyone he knew from back home at all.]

[It's the first time anyone's actually asked him that - most others had either rolled their eyes or got annoyed with him when he expressed that sentiment. So it took a couple of moment for him to reply.]

[ she doesn't quite understand his logic, but then again, she's always loved her homeland, so it's hard to understand how someone could think otherwise. ]

Pretty much. Let's just say... well, the people here are definitely more interesting to talk to. And hey, once you get used to it, this place can be pretty cosy.
