Oh Ted, if Kashima knew she was about to drive you batty, she'd apologize. But she doesn't! So she won't.

"Mikoshiba seemed pretty excited about it for a while."

Ted had already parked in batty's driveway. He just wanted to spare people the trip. Still, he was flattered at 'interesting'. He thought his warning fairly normal.

"I don't know who that is. Still, I relate. The curiosity begged to be indulged. Little did I know that those wicked stars would make us play the part of cats."

You know, curiosity killed the cat. He's a bit frazzled, shut up.

"A place of nightmares? That's dramatic, but not really informational. Is there something in the water? What happens if you 'tread its waters'? I work in Nova City. If there's something there that will cause problems, it should be dealt with."

I have not heard from Komeiji for several days now..

[It had been unusually peaceful at home as of late; but she hadn't really thought to question it.]

Now I suspect the fountain has something to do with it.

Ah, are you friends with her, Satsuki? [He was ignorant of their working relationship]. Do you have her radio ID? I fear time is of the essence.

"If specifics will do the trick, then specifics you shall have! Within the water are motes of light. They'll retreat from you, but if you should catch one, then blistering trauma will be your reward. Hopefully, that's where it ends, but I cannot say what ripples remain from those wicked stars."

"Are you certain the water isn't simply boiling? If it's not, the motes must have come from somewhere. Perhaps the water should be watched, to see if someone is tampering with it."

"Yes I'm certain it's not boiling! Do I look like I've just gotten out of some scalding bowl of alphabet soup? It's...it's full of aquatic horrors! Visceral visions! Phantasmagoria beneath beguiling glitter! It's very bad; don't go!"

She is part of my 'Supernatural Investigations' team. I shall see if I can contact her.

[She sends a private ping to Koishi to see if she responds; but in the meantime..]

I don't suppose you could alert me to what the issue is?

[He had a hard time believing that. Picturing her acting as a hard-nosed detective would make him laugh, were he in the mood.]

I had no idea such a thing was. I'm jealous.

(glumly) No, I don't suppose I could. [He didn't even know if there was an issue; such is the way with mysticism. Even if there were, it seemed too private a matter to discuss with anyone else.]

"Visceral visions?" Koschei asked, smiling. "I think I should go. I've studied many different forms of life. I might be able to tell you what it is."

Ted dragged his hands over his face. The world seemed to be having a lot of fun at his expense. Turnabout is fair play, he supposed.

"How about forms of death? Has that entered your scholarly purview? You know what, never mind. By all means, retrace my steps and walk blindly into the abyss with a smile. I await, with baited breath, your forthcoming erudition."

The night's misery just wasn't complete without someone out-fooling the man himself. God protect the man; Lord knows the Lord's the only one for the job.

It took a short while but there was an eventual answer on Koishi's end. The corner of a light blue sleeve could be glanced before the device was handed to the little green youkai.

"Miss White?" She seemed shockingly low energy. There was no heart hovering over her shoulder. "I'm sorry. I got really distracted awhile ago. Can I help you with anything?"

A light but relieved sigh passes Satsuki's lips upon getting the response, but poor Koishi looks like a wreck again. Her brows furrow a bit, then she shakes her head.

"We can discuss that at a later date; for now focus on getting well. I shall keep this brief; first I would like to know if your condition is related to the recent Bay relocation. The other is that a man by the name of Theodore seems insistant he speak with you for an undisclosed reason. Blonde man, middling build, green coat, oft-oblivious facial expression." ... "I could send him away, of course."

It's not that she disliked Ted but she doesn't take him very seriously either. How bad could it even be?

.. Jealous?

[Of what? Well whatever. And it doesn't take a genius to know she didn't like the second answer. It's probably none of her business anyway but still.]

Very well. Could you elaborate a bit on the warning of the waters? I do not really have any choice but to investigate this unusual occurrance and will take whatever information I can.

She visibly tensed at the mention of the bay, going a bit pale. She looked up away from the phone for a moment, probably at Satori, and then back at the screen. She licked her lips, third eye open very slightly.

"... I know Him. I was his hidden Santa at Christmas and he came to see me in the hospital. He's nice but kind of silly and odd." A pause. "Some people saw me leave the bay. Like the nice lady with the rope belt and blonde hair..." She let out a long breath.

"I'll see what he would like. I should come out anyway. Sunshine will help I think. Maybe we could get lunch! Would you like to come too Miss White?" Beat. "It is lunchtime, right?" Her voice wavered a little bit at the offer but it was a step back toward normalcy at least.

[Ted's not feeling well so he's just gonna start blabbing/thinking out loud.]

"I'm no sage; I cannot say what happened to any respectable degree of precision. Even then I hesitate to go much further beyond 'Doom, doom!'; My last conversation to that effect unwittingly sent some daring-doing-dummy off to enjoy a bout of insomnia.

So, vagueness begets curiosity, and so they go. Specifics beget instruction, and then they know how to go all the quicker. You see the trouble.

Hang it all, I don't want you to investigate! Rediscover your free will and do something sensible, like break out the police tape and go decorating. I'll even do it for you, should you find such domesticity distasteful.

[In spite of Ted's verbal diarrhea, he was worried about Satsuki. That, and he figured her for a shrewd shrew. It wasn't much of a leap to connect the ghastly sights and his intent towards Koishi into "I saw something bad about Koishi". Then he'd be pried into until all his effort at discretion unraveled. Why couldn't anyone just take his warning at face value?]

"You can't really study history without learning about forms of death," Koschei replied. "I didn't say I meant to actually go into the water. I can certainly study whatever is there, without doing that. I may even be able to trap one of your 'motes of light.'"

Koschei was beginning to be very curious. Finally there seemed to be something he could use his scientific knowledge to explore!

Well.. That answers that it would seem. Satsuki doesn't press any more on that for now.

"I see. Thank you for the information. As for 'coming out', I would suggest you follow whatever your sister suggests." She then pauses to glance at the clock. Her finger can be heard tapping upon the desk several times before she speaks again. Lunch, huh.

She is a bit pressed on time, but she'd be interested in visiting the turtle again. It was an invitation to the Komeiji Household, right? "I suppose I could drop by if that is deemed acceptable."

[Wow.

Ok, well now she could see these two getting along. All that said, she can only shake her head. There's a brief pause.]

I have managed to contact Komeiji. It would appear she is still a bit shaken, but she shall contact you at her earliest convenience.

And I do not have a choice in the matter; the Bay does not belong in Nova City and it's effects are not something I wish to deal with longer than I have to. There must be a way to send it back, and simply sitting around waiting for that to happen is not an option.

However if you come across any other information that may be of use, I will gladly accept it.

"Sure... That would work fine." A pause. "Where is he, by the way? Where would be a good place?" A pause, Koishi looking up at her sister once more, pausing, and then nodding her head. "I don't think Ted will want to come. He's scared of Sis. But if he wants to he may."

With a small wave, the scene around Koishi changed as she began moving. "We fished some eels out of the glowing lake so we'll be eating those... And we have some sake to go with it. And some other things too."

"Thank you." He breathed a sigh of relief, tilting his head to rest against a wall and closing his eyes briefly. He'd expected her to bite his head off; such is the way with the imperial types. But no, she was calmer than he, and he took after her manner.

"Fair's fair; quid pro quo and all that. Okay, here's all I know. That pool contains what seem like stars; luminous fish flakes, perhaps. Naturally they're people-averse, darting at the touch. I was too persistent for my own good, and managed to catch one with a makeshift net. For my trouble I saw...and felt something horrible. Exactly, as I said, like a nightmare."

When he put it like that, he felt bashful. Children get nightmares, but even they bear it better than he, at that moment. Of course, the explanation had let the cat out of the bag. Hopefully Satsuki would leave off the obvious route of questions.

"I admire your pluck, Satsuki. From the beginning, Genessia's had its way with us, according to its enigmatic pleasure. To maintain rebellion in the face of such a mysterious monolith..." He trailed off, mentally completing it with "that's the example I ought to follow".

"I guess that's why you're the guardian." He smiled weakly.

"Your device makes it so that you do not actually have to meet anywhere, Komeiji." she reminds, "But if you insist I would recommend the gateway entrance to Hell."

Because that wouldn't frighten him at all. As for the meal, her brows furrow, but eventually replies, "Very well."

"Okay. Thank you Satsuki. It means a lot to me." She gave the phone a little bow. "Oh... And one more thing. I'm not sure about his... Fighting ability. It may be best if you escort him through the waterways to the sub archway. They haven't been very active lately, and I'll give it a once-over myself, but you never know."

She smiled weakly, before letting the phone hang up, letting out a deep sigh. She was already nearly at the obelisk that marked the entrance to the sub archway. She took a deep breath and stepped through.

Drifting up, she glanced around, making note of the usual ambushing lizard that enjoyed basking in the sub-archway's warmth, moving out of the room, and down various branching paths, projecting an aura of fear. Within minutes she had scared off all of the major threats.

She returned to the entrance to the sub archway, sitting down on the machinery and sighing. She glanced at the lizard, pausing before picking it up and setting it in her lap, warming and calming it with her hands. It was pretty much another pet at this point anyway...

Well now, Koishi's spoken her name yet again. Satsuki isn't entirely certain what the cause of it is, and of course it would be a waste of time for her to try and ask.

On the other hand, perhaps Satori could answer it for her. Such a simple answer she had overlooked all along. That aside, she has an escort quest to take care of; Satsuki and Ted arrived as far as they could by vehicle, and then the rest of the way by foot. The good news is it's perfectly sunny out. The bad news is that along the pathways the duo had a little run-in with a beast.

It might have had more than one head. May have had possessed several tails, and quite possibly was the size of a bear and spat purple acid. It also swooped from the sky. While the details may end up being a little fuzzy, what is clear is that the Guardian ended up kicking it in the face to make it scamper away.

Eventually they step through the sub archway into Old Hell. It isn't clear who steps through first however.
