What: It's Jean's birthday and while Mikasa isn't exactly throwing a huge party, anyone is invited to come celebrate if they're interested.
When: April 7th
Where: Casa AoT/SnK
Style: 1st person~

[Mikasa had -- at some point -- asked Marco if he knew Jean's birthday since they were now dating. She was going to ask about the others because she was interested in at least giving them something for their birthdays. Finding out that his birthday was coming up, she knew that she wanted to do something for him and while it may not have been much, she figured the others would like to celebrate his birthday just like she would. So getting everything ready, she had went out to have a cake made after doing some research about what to do for birthdays. Her own birthday was a good enough surprise for her, even if she didn't tell anyone about it herself. She thought about making the cake herself, but she could barely cook. She doubted she'd be able to do something like that, even if her cooking wasn't all that bad from her practice so far.

But she was curious about the others as well, so before getting him to surprise him after coming up with some excuse to get him out of the apartment, she felt that it would be a good time to ask about everyone else's birthdays.]

This isn't so bad... Celebrating birthdays after all. I'm just... used to it not being a priority so... When is everyone else's birthdays?

[OOC: I'll be doing a separate thread for Jean, but everyone is free to do so as well. It would probably be better this way so that we don't have to wait on a large number of people to post. I'll also put up separate threads for other things as well.]

[Good. Birthday. Something fun to do for change! She's even wearing a cute, light green dress today, not that she needs excuses for wearing them because she could do that every day now. But it's new and seemed like a good option for this. No high heels though, she never wears heels or else she'd be taller than Levi and somehow she thinks that that wouldn't be fair.

Also can there ever be enough checking that everything's and everyone's fine before Jean's arrival? Nope, if you ask the mom/big sis figure here even if she tries to mostly relax since all is well.]

We really should do this more often... [Or find more reasons if there's not enough birthdays!] Ah, mine's December 6th.

[ Marco looks nervous. he's fidgetting with a small wrapped box in his hands and he's standing behind everyone else. he isn't sure what exactly he should be doing here. or if he should even be here. maybe he should just leave.

he tries to go and put the gift on a table nearby. he would eventually see it, right? ]

[Without any other warning, Jean slaps a hand on Marco's shoulder. This whole celebrating birthdays thing seemed a bit unnecessary, but he can understand why other people might want to and it was...nice of Mikasa to arrange this and everyone else go along with it.]

[ he made a small gasp when the other's hand landed on his shoulder and he reached to pick up the gift again. he had been wrapped up in his thoughts and he hadn't actually even noticed that Jean had actually arrived ]

You're here, we were all waiting on you. [ he smiled, turning to the other. an embarrassed blush spread across his cheeks as he held out the box. it was about a 3x3 box with gray paper around it and a thin red bow that he had tied at the top ] Happy birthday, Jean. I hope you like it.

I noticed. Don't you all have other things to do? [The way he carefully held the box--as if it might break--betrayed the fact that he actually really appreciated it, and how surprised he really was.]

Marco...you know you didn't have to. Thanks. [Nope he's not smiling or anything nope. Okay he might be. He started to unwrap it.]

[ inside is another black box that looks about the size of a ring box. as soon as Jean opens that one, Marco will reach inside his shirt and take out his necklace. Jean's got the same one in the box ]

I had these made... I know we never joined the military police but I don't want to forget how we met and what our dreams were back then. Maybe they can mean something different now that we're here. [ meaning lets make them best friend necklaces!! ]

[Jean opens the box. He doesn't say anything at first. He just traces his hand over the symbol, looking nostalgic. It really hadn't been that long, had it? But it felt like forever. His eyes might reflect the light a little too much. He...doesn't know what to say. He's not the best with words normally, but this means a lot, and he's not sure how to express it. Gingerly, he wraps his hand around the necklace, before clasping it firmly. Then he grabs Marco's hand. He's warm, he's breathing.]

Thank you. [His voice is a little hoarse. He nods and lets go, taking the necklace out of the box to put it on.]

[ Marco looks nervous, standing there with one hand this around his necklace. what should he say? what should he do? is Jean okay? does he like it? there are so many questions running through his head.

finally he feels Jean reach out for his hand and he gives the other's hand a squeeze. he can't help but smile at the thanks ]

You're welcome, I just hope you like it.

Of course I like it. How'd you even...the emblem's just like the Military Police's. [He can't imagine the time and care put into making them. It probably cost Marco a small fortune.]

[He finishes putting the necklace on, holding it in his hand.] Hurry and put yours on.

I-I just drew it out the best that I could and someone made it for me.

[ he laughs ] I'm really glad that you like it. I already have mine on.

[Mikasa thankfully knew about his birthday beforehand so that she could really think about what to give him for a gift. She wasn't exactly used to giving or receiving gifts, but with her own birthday and Christmas, it's gotten a little better.

She had given Eren a katana for something like the gear, but that was before she found somebody to recreate the 3DM gear. It wasn't completely the same, but Ruby had done a fairly good job in recreating the gear. She knew that Jean didn't have his with him and while it was a smart idea for everyone here who didn't have it to get something like it, she figured she could worry about them later or suggest it to them about where she had this made.

Of course, considering the gear was relatively big and too big to hide in a simple box, she opted for hiding it in her closet after telling Armin about it to keep from having him spoil the surprise.

So after setting things up at the apartment, she went to go fetch him from the excuse she had used to get him out of the apartment for a little while. Finally arriving, she stood outside waiting for him after contacting him, deciding to dress a little nicer than she normally did with work and out of habit.]

[Jean couldn't think of a reason for Mikasa to want to get him alone other than their usual conversations. Or something. He decided not to think too much into it, walking outside of the apartment to where Mikasa wanted to meet him. He stopped in his tracks when he got there, his face a softer (but still vivid) shade of red than Mikasa's jacket.

Mikasa had nice legs.

Really nice legs.]

Uhm... [He rubbed the back of his neck, finding it oddly difficult to make words. Why was this so hard? They were dating, dammit. After looking around at the amazing scenery around them, his eyes settled back on hers.] You look really beautiful today.

[Which would be a valid excuse, right? She was a little surprised at his reaction until he spoke up finally. Something like that she could usually say thanks and just sort of... shrug it off. Now it had more of an affect on her because she was lightly blushing to the compliment. Not that it was strange for him to give her them, especially since they were dating, but she was still getting used to it.]

T-thank you. [Wow, that was a good response...] I figured I should dress a bit more casually than I normally do.

[Which is sort of still true... Giving him a light smile, she took his hand in hers gently.]

It's good to see you too. [Not that they don't see each other in the apartment...]

Ah...yeah. [Clearly their conversation skill levels were higher than ever.] You're good at...choosing your outfits and-- [He's just going to stop talking for now.]

[He gives her hand a light squeeze, smiling back at her genuinely.] Same.

She didn't say anything, rather she just gave a small chuckle.]

Well, aren't you good with words.

[Teasing him playfully. as she's leading him; Not that she was any better.]

[He rolls his eyes at her comment, content to follow her.]

Where are we going?

Well, to the apartment eventually, but I thought it would be a nice day for a short walk.

[Because they've got most of the stuff ready, but what's a little more time just in case?]

Sure. [He wasn't about to argue against a walk with her. And it would be nice to be outside.]

Did you have anywhere in mind?

[Seeming as a walk was more-or-less a distraction tactic in this situation. It didn't take too long to wander around enough towards a familiar building.]
