[Later, once they're all together, they start on their shopping trip! Mikoshiba thought it would be best to start in Genessia, because there are a few formal wear shops there, and it wouldn't be anything too ~~new and intimidating~~ confusing. He looks pretty at ease with the two of them, at least compared to how he usually is. He's grateful they both decided to tag along. While talking, he occasionally pauses, looking deep in thought. As for flowers... He'll have to think of something. It would be best to do it as close to the party as he can.]

Where did you two want to head first? We need two suits and one dress.

Definitely! For that big party in Nova City, right? I'd love to!

Since I don't have anything formal enough, I thought it would be a good idea. I'm going to ask Mayu if he wants to come too, so try not to win the hearts of too many princesses while we're out.

What about Hori-senpai? Have you talked to him about if he plans on going to the party?

[Kashima was really far more interested in the display of accessories near the entrance to the store, and it would have stayed that way until they'd moved on--if she hadn't caught wind of what Mikoshiba had just said.]

I'm not wearing a dress. When do I ever wear a dress to a formal party, Mikoshiba?

[She's honestly confused, the slightest of frowns on her face. Of all people, Mikoshiba rarely suggests she play to her more 'feminine' airs--in fact, they usually choose outfits together. They can share clothes like siblings, at that! So why he's suggesting a dress...]

[ Mayu has no idea about his plan for flowers. He gets what Mikoto is trying for, even if it seems like Yuu would prefer a suit.]

It'll make Masayuki-san take notice, by being different from what you usually wear.

I could try on a dress with you, if that helps.

[ He says this with a straight face. His brother once tried on a seifuku in public, so he doesn't think it's a big deal.]

[He's grateful Mayu understands and goes along with it. He looks pleased as he continues.]

Don't you want your senpai to notice his favorite kouhai, Kashima? Not only that, but it's not a role you play often. He'll be impressed by your broad range.

[Okay that. He was not expecting that. His face turns a luminescent red, and he tries to sink between them so he's not seen by outsiders listening in on their conversation. Maybe he should have figured Mayu would be okay with that, considering who he's related to, but it never crossed his mind. But Mayu in a dress...? He's pretty cute. He's tall and muscular, but if he was going to wear a dress, Mikoshiba would think--]

Purple. [He blurts the word out, and realizes it too late. Covering his mouth, he pretends to cough and keeps talking.] Ah...you don't have to do something you're uncomfortable with, Mayu.

Are dresses really that uncomfortable, Yuu-san?

[ He completely misses the point. He guesses this could be why Yuu wants to wear a suit. The actual girl is more likely to have orn dresses in the past, and the uniform skirt might be similar enough.

He's absolutely baffled by Mikoto blurting out a color.]

[Mayu might have missed Mikoshiba's comment, but Kashima could almost see the train of thought chugging along as it went to the destination of considering what color dress Mayu ought to try out.

Ultimately, though, the comment is lost entirely when Mayu asks her about her opinion on dresses. She blinks, tilting her head.]

Uncomfortable?

[She's not considered the thought of dresses being uncomfortable before, really. She wears the proper uniform and very rarely deviates--well, occasionally she wears slacks, but primarily wears the uniform skirt without complaint. And for work here, as well--often she wears a knee length skirt and blouse along with the lab jacket, no questions asked. But her casual clothing rarely falls into such a feminine category, nor does her more formal attire, and Mayu's question gives her pause.]

I don't think they're really uncomfortable. I'm just not used to wearing them, I guess. [Kashima pauses, and tilts her head slightly.] Besides, senpai won't care if I'm wearing a dress, anyway. He only notices if I'm not wearing a skirt at school when we've swapped uniforms.

[Correction: he noticed when you stole his uniform, Kashima.]

[He considers voicing that wasn't what he meant by uncomfortable, but decides against it. He's too busy dwelling in his own embarrassment to begin with. At least the conversation is going along pretty normally now...

He has to roll his eyes at Kashima's answer. How could the top of their class be so dense at times? It had to have been because of Hori's frequent violence.]

Did you already forget how he acted at the party? He even approved of it and everything.

There are a lot of different dresses and styles out there, so there should be one that you'd be okay with!

[Frequent concussions will do that, you know.]

Because it's polite.

[But she'll go along with it, primarily because it's easier and frankly, she can tell that Mikoshiba is rather taken with the idea of Mayu in a dress--a purple dress, at that.

The formal dress section is nearby and Kashima is quick to start poking through, digging through the racks cheerfully.] What sort of color do you think you'd like, Mayu-kun? I think purple would look nice on you.

[Guess what, Mikoshiba? Two people can play at this game. Anyway, the first dress she pulls isn't actually a bad looking dress. It's a nice shade of deep purple that actually would look nice on Mayu, and could potentially be considered for a color that he wear in his suit. And to placate Mikoshiba, because she knows she'd hear no end if she'd not pull something for herself, she also grabs a modest black dress for herself to try. it's not particularly her style, but then again, her style for a formal affair would involve a suit, so...]

I think this shade of purple would look nice on you, Mayu-kun, even if you don't wear a dress. It'd be a nice tie and handkerchief for your suit! [Proving the point, she holds the gown up next to him, glancing between Mayu's face and the gown, before looking to Mikoshiba. Her expression is so cheerful it's hard to imagine this was intentional whatsoever.] Don't you think, Mikoshiba?

Mikoshiba, are you going to that party that was announced?

Hm? It mostly depends on if anyone else is going. I know my presence at that kind of party would be valuable, but I don't see any point wasting my time there if there's no one of interest there too.

[aka: he's scared to go alone and wants other people there who will reassure him.]

Okay, make sure you look after Mayu and that he doesn't sleep everywhere. He has an image to maintain here.
