[The feed begins with Karla letting out an exasperated sigh, as if she'd just completed a long bout of rigorous training. Even though that's far from the case.]
Well, I, for one, am glad that the election is over.
[Because she couldn't care less about who was elected.]
I can't help but wonder what the Guardians' true purpose is. The word "Guardian" would suggest that their job is simply to protect the cities and their people. But after listening to all the debates, it sounds like these Guardians are more like rulers.
Or perhaps the word "Guardian" has a different meaning here? I could be mistaken...
And let's not forget the so-called "overlord" who claims that all of the Guardians are working for him. If that is true, whoever was elected as the Guardians would make little, if any difference at all. Not that I believe it's actually true, mind you...
[And then she ends her little ramble.]

"I would not spend too much time worrying about it. Best we have guardians who are either responsible or fools rather than someone with ambition. And with some of the characters I have seen in my stay here, I should hope anyone with truly malevolent tendencies would not be elected.
One of the castle's many werewolves appeared next to her, bumping her shoulder gently. It had brought her a basket. Holding up one finger to the camera, she checked the contents before nodding to the were-beast, watching it as it walked off before turning back to the phone."Of course, considering what sort of power the citizens of the various cities have, I think the guardians need to show a measure of caution. Truthfully I would not worry about the issue as a whole too much unless you observe something worth worrying about."

Yes, our debaters did get a bit sloppy, lusting for power so obviously. Thankfully no one seemed to mind; now we know how comforting the frog finds the boil.
As one of your education is probably aware, all democracies are essentially shams meant to propagate power structures that operate in secret. After all, had Genessia really cared about the well being of its cities, it would've polled their respective peoples exclusively, rather than rope all and sundry.
So everyone feels at peace. They've done their civic duties and may now retire for six months, little realizing that they've, at best, reassigned gloves to the same hands.
The goal is, obviously, power for its own sake. Right now we're debating whether to go for spotless records, or mess things up so horribly that the people despair of voting altogether, putting their trust instead into someone a bit more...absolute.
Naturally, I can't get into specifics of what will be done with that power. Suffice to say the truth would make even the wildest cranks seem positively tame.
I ask that you not think too lowly of me. If you knew what lengths the powers that be would go to appease their terrible cupidity, you too would have done anything to escape it, even if it meant becoming but a hair on the knuckle of their iron fist.

Frankly, I could do without guardians...but I suppose not everyone can say that...

...Well, this only makes me glad that I didn't vote at all.

I'd recommend against that in the future. Those who opt out of the game raise suspicion, and you can never tell when the ones upstairs might be feeling jumpy, if you catch my drift. Wouldn't want to get disappeared now, would we?
no subject
I disappear quite a bit as it is.

"As to the necessity of Guardians... A good number of people benefit from having a leader to look to. Especially in times of crisis. Even if the leader cannot solve that problem directly, if he or she provides the morale or provides the resources to allow it to be solved, then they have done their part. It is not about power so much as providing a feeling of security in this regard.

God redeem you. You are, without a doubt, the hardest woman I've ever attempted jest with. You must be very pure, to be so well kept from nonsense.
no subject
...I'm not sure that "pure" describes me very well...but it's true that I don't do jest very well...

*laughs* It doesn't matter. Neither my jokes nor your peculiar armor towards them.
But I won't give up that easily. It'd be a distinguishing honor to make you honestly laugh. Or at least guffaw. I'll probably get an award for such a Herculean task. My term ought to do it.

[If there's a time to make her laugh, this is not it.]

"Yes...that is what I had imagined that the Guardians would do. But perhaps some others see it differently."

You certainly seem to think so, hence my failed attempt at proving otherwise. Believe me, this current crop of candidates contains no cause for concern. Well, I tell a lie; don't tell her I said this, but I've never seen the Nova City guardian smile.
But yes, brushing that anomaly aside, what other reason would you have to be uneasy? Like myself, the "overlord" you speak of is also joking.
no subject
Guardians... Eh. Not sure I care how much authority they have.
no subject
[She still barely knows any of the people here, so she can't argue.]
I was just asking about the Guardians' true purpose is all. It's not that I'm uneasy towards any of them. It is good to know about the "overlord," though.

[ Weiss has spoken with him before and has irrevocably decided that he's not even worth the headache since he doesn't pay attention to logic, reason, or factual evidence right before his eyes. Or the fact that none of his "overlording" actually has anything to do with what goes on here in Genessia. ]
As for the Guardians, their duty is to protect the citizens. They're law enforcement, essentially, not rulers. Fayren even has actual rulers that the City Guardians are meant to answer to and if I'm not mistaken, at the very least Genessia has a mayor. I think he released a groundhog on the town in February for some reason. At least, someone did according to the paper.. [ The lack of comprehensible government is a little confusing to Weiss, but that's also one of the reasons she's sure not too much gets done. ]

Giving those who are stuck here the power to influence their current living environments. I don't think one person should have to do it alone but if there are a group of people trying to make the world a better place it can't be wrong.
[She pauses drumming her fingers against her chin.]
Of course I haven't hear of this "overlord." Who is that?
video;
But I could be very wrong with that.

Video
[She shrugs about the overlord, though.]
I didn't get his name. He just looked like a small boy with silly blue hair.
Video
[Levy takes a moment to think.]
I should probably just seek one of these guardians. I'm a little nervous about all of this to be honest.
Video
Um...what would you ask them?

[Those who run for it make it easier to tell what sort of office it is. It can't be too bad since the system is still in place but that doesn't make it perfect either.]
I have a lot of questions about this city and these stones [She holds up the stone that opens the archways.] But I don't think anyone has the answers to some of my questions so I'm starting at the beginning.

Of course, our positions come with a degree of power, so in that sense I suppose we could be seen as rulers. I, for one, consider my role to be that in part.
As for said "Overlord"... That would be Laharl. He's still under the impression we all work for him.
[She tilts her head at the mention of Laharl.]
Ah...so you know this "Overlord?"
Oui. Laharl and I hail from the same world, and he is my rival for the title of Overlord back home. He invaded my palace and kicked me off the running for the throne the first time we met!
[Although he's not showing it, he is proud with how far Laharl's gotten.]
Ah...you would think...but this world is different, and some people were referring to Guardians as rulers. So I wondered if the word had a different meaning here than what we're used to.
Well, that is a shame. I suppose I would choose you over him any day.
Hmm, I see it as both, but the role of protecting others is more important, in my mind.
[Still, that last comment was definitely good for his ego.]
Why thank you, I'm glad some people see that I am the only one who could become the rightful Overlord, after all! For it is I who have the power, beauty and charisma far exceeding his!
[She chuckles. He has quite the ego as well.]
So tell me, what would you do as Overlord?
