Hey!? Umm... that thing with the monsters and the trying to get in here and... eat us isn't normal here. Right?

[ Yeah, guess who got to see that almost as soon as she walked out of the Bay and has been hiding for the last however many hours it's been since they had shown up ]

Please tell me that's not normal. The pamphlet and hologram didn't mention anything about that!

[ She sighs, taking a deep breath before speaking again. ]

Sorry. Sorry. I'm being really rude here. My name's Vivio Takamachi. And umm... I'd really appreciate and answer to that question. Because I really, really don't think it's going to be a good thing if those things get inside.

[ Yeah. She's still a bit shaken up and still being pretty rude, but come on, giant monsters weren't a thing you saw everyday. She didn't know if even Nanoha-mama or Fate-mama could stop things that big if they got in. And if they were here. Which they might not be.

... So what types or styles do you think of magic as, out of curiosity, from your world?

Well... types and styles really are two different things. Like... certain spells do certain things, binding spells create things like magical chains and stuff, summoning spells... umm, summon things. Enhancement spells makes things stronger. Shooting spells shoot at things and bombardment spells make things explode.

Styles... well, there's only really three major magic styles that I know about. The Mid-Childan style uses magic for a lot of things, but for the most part as far as fighting goes is mostly shooting and bombardment type spells. Ancient Belkan style is the completely opposite of that, using magic to make melee type attacks stronger.

Modern Belkan style is pretty recent, and is basically a cross between both Mid-Childan and Ancient Belkan.

Huh. Where I'm from, magic and martial arts don't cross too easily. So to hear that's the norm in your world...

All sorts of places, eh?

... Well, I wouldn't say it's the norm exactly. There's plenty of cases where people don't use magic with martial arts or martial arts with magic.

That still means there's plenty of people who do... Which is crazy to think about.

... I guess if it was something that you don't really see it would be. But... umm... why exactly doesn't it work that way where you're from?

Where I'm from, specializing tends to be more powerful, so most who learn magic focus on it. 'Gish' forms that mix the two together tend to have significant costs in terms of developing experience.

For example, I'm a Bard. I know my way around a sword and some other weapons, but my spellcasting is centered on ally enhancement and illusions - not direct combat - and the upper tier of magic took me a lot longer to get to than it would a dedicated Wizard.

... Oh. That makes sense.

And it's kinda the same for a lot of people back where I'm from too. Most people who learn magic that also involves martial arts or physical attacks are... either people who like martial arts or people who work for the Bureau and are basically part of the police force.

I'm not too sure if the 'upper' levels of magic would take longer for one of them though. Everyone I know who's there was already there long before I met them.

Hard to say, given that. Could be fun to ask others from your world about in time...

Maybe. I'm sure there's a lot of people who'll be able to let me know more about it.
