Let's say that a great evil is coming. Let's further say that the only way you can prevent it is to substitute another evil in its place, one which you're more familiar with. You think it's a lesser evil, but can't be sure as you're not a soothsayer and can't foresee the consequences.
Would you be righteous, then, in performing the swap? It's a question that I find very perplexing; fighting one sin with another is dangerous work, to say nothing of the sketchiness of "means to an end" thinking.

I mean-- Sometimes you might only have two choices you don't like. But even then, there's sometimes a hidden third option. Shouldn't you look for that first before making any decisions?

Ahh-- Then you don't have much of a choice, do you? You can't backtrack and start over. It's depressing, but some coffee and your favorite movie will help make you feel better. Or if you're really annoyed, you could always go with the worst option and destroy everything you've worked for.
