[It was one of the rarer days when Amu was at work and Ikuto and Kukai both had a day off. It was a great chance for the guys to finally talk about something Kukai had been meaning to talk about for a while. So he approached Ikuto with a few cans of soda and smiled.]

Nice to have a day off sometimes, huh?

[It had been a little strange for Ikuto to actually live with other people that he didn't have to constantly hide from. Still, sticking together seemed to be in their best interests and once he'd spoken to Kukai more, he didn't seem so bad. Looking to him, he took note of the sodas, but simply nodded.]

Yeah. It's been pretty busy lately. [With work anyways. To keep up on rent, at least it wasn't like his forced job at EASTER.] It's nice to be able to relax sometimes.

Yeah, I love the kids I teach, but sometimes a day for myself is a good change. [Kukai offered the other soda can to Ikuto.] Too bad it's just the two of us, huh?

I'll take what I can get. [Taking the soda with a curt thanks.] It's not so bad. It's just a little strange is all. Not exactly used to having company that wants to stick around.

Well, you just need to get used to it. Once I make friends, I'm not letting them out of my life easily. [Kukai winked with a smile and opened his soda can.]

Besides... if Utau ever gets here, she'll be glad we get along.

[Yeah, there's a strong hint of sadness accompanied with that.]

I've always been the bad guy in everyone's eyes, but I don't exactly blame them. I did what I had to to protect Utau and Amu; even the Kiddy King, but maybe it's not so bad that he still doesn't think of me the same way as he used to. It makes it that much more amusing to tease him.

[Opening his own can he took a drink as he listened to the part about Utau. No matter how clingy she was with him, he did miss her too.]

Yeah. At least now there's someone else willing to take her affections. That means I won't have to be the main target anymore. [But he says that lightly.]

A bad guy with a good heart, I'd say. Good thing you were able to leave that all behind though... I'm sure Tadase will come around later, but before that you get all the amusement.

[He wasn't above making his best friend suffer from time to time. He did tease him as well...]

Haha. She'll be all over me if I can help it. [At least he hopes so.]

Unless... she also comes from our past.

You could say I used EASTER to my own advantage as well, so they're not the only ones who used others. But it more liberating not to have to be shackled to doing their dirty work anymore.

I'm not sure how to feel about that.

[Because on one hand, not the main target anymore. The other... big brother senses are kicking in.]

Well... I guess that would make both of our love lives a train wreck then.

Definitely better this way. I'm glad both of you got away from there, even if the chairman made a change for better.

Yeah... things wouldn't change from what they are now. We'd still both have the crushing feeling of loneliness.

[Kukai clenched the hand that was holding the soda can, making the can get a little out of shape. It was more of an unconscious reflex than anything else.]

Well... On the plus side... I finally talked to my mother for the first time in a long time when things settled down.

[It'll just be something to get used to.]

I can't say it's a new feeling. Just when I thought I made some progress, she forgets everything that's happened....
