ACTION; EARLY MORNING; private/weiss solo
Zuko was the protective one. She hadn't blamed him for it; even if she could take care of herself and they both knew that, things seemed to pile onto her over and over again in this place. The more connections she made to others, the more she let others chip into her, the less of that name "Ice Queen" seemed appropriate.

Back home, it was with her team. Things she was happy to do, like use the few seconds it would take for her to hit the ground to cast a glyph to assist Blake instead of shifting her body to break her fall. It hurt, but it was worth it. She cared about her team and would take those falls to make sure that they succeeded.

Here she made a poor call and let that connection cause her to lose control of her emotions. To let that crack in her ice let out some of that rage at watching Blake die. It caused her to lose. Torchwick had tortured her, and Ruby and Zuko- two of her largest cracks- had come to her rescue. She tried to become stronger, faster, more versatile to make sure it didn't happen again.

Then Armin had been captured. She hadn't been able to do anything to stop it. He'd started making his impact on her too, making her want to be a better boss. He had clearly watched her back, made sure she didn't overwork herself and she appreciated it. She liked him. But she'd lost him to Mercury. She'd watched it happen over the little phones they had here. Another crack in the Ice Queen's heart.

She'd become stronger since then. She'd managed to make a stand on her own. Schnee Company was succeeding despite Torchwick's attempts to weaken it. No one had been hurt in a while and Weiss was happy. That wasn't something she could've said for years of her life, but it was true. Even if she could still be crabby, could still shoot people down at the drop of the hat (which had apparently earned her the nickname in the first place), she felt warm. Weiss felt loved. Surely all of that ice had melted and even if she still had moments of paranoia, of fear, of her own stress-inducing behaviors, she felt good about herself.

Then the barrier had cracked, like so many of those little pieces of ice that had frozen over her heart, and she shone brightly. Even if she still used ice, there was a fire in her heart and soul. She easily managed for so many days, protecting people she knew, protecting strangers, helping people get to Nova City where it was safe. Kazuya had once asked how she could be both a huntress and the CEO of a company- well this was it. It had been. It was supposed to be. Then she was running low on Dust. There was too much going on and to help more people, they'd all needed to fan out. It was too unproductive to stay together. And then she was trapped.

She very literally froze herself in a cage of ice to protect herself with the last of the Dust, making it as thick as she possibly could. Hiding behind the ice was always easier than getting hurt. She called Zuko- he was the protective one. He would always be at her side the second she needed him, and he came. She had thought if that fire in her heart could hold her steady, then maybe breaking out of it could work when she wasn't sure if Zuko would make it. That thing had almost gotten through, so she broke through first to surprise it. The Ice Queen had broken through her own ice, and doing so made her fail.

But Zuko was the protective one, and he saved her just when she thought all that was left was the ice, far less than before the cracks had even been made. He pulled her back, showing her that even if every bit of her heart felt empty, that dim little fire he'd put there was still there. He fanned the flame, made it bigger again, and made sure that ice wasn't the only thing left.

He made sure to protect her and they'd gone into hiding while she recovered. She couldn't fight anymore, but she'd done her best and it was enough for now. Everyone would be safe, and she'd done her part. No one could say she hadn't done admirably, even if it wasn't perfect. She rarely was, but she was still working toward it. So Zuko wouldn't let her out of his sight, because he had to protect her while she couldn't do it herself. That was okay, until it wasn't.

Weiss took a sharp breath, waking herself up. It was early. The sun hadn't come up yet. It had been more than a week, and she'd regained a lot of her emotions since then. She still couldn't completely feel everything, but it was enough that she felt like a person. Enough that something felt wrong. Enough that the sun wasn't up yet, but Zuko wasn't in bed. Zuko always rose with the sun, and she always felt him get out of bed. But she didn't feel him leave. She didn't feel the telltale shifting of the mattress, the tugging of the sheets and blankets as he slipped out of bed, thinking she hadn't noticed. He was always stealthy, but Weiss always noticed when that distinctive warmth left her side. She hadn't felt that this time. She'd woken up scared, alone. The pillow was still warm.

Zuko had been sleeping in the same bed with her night after night until she'd recovered. Maybe something had happened. Weiss checked around the hotel without bothering to change out of her nightgown, the only sound being that of the tiny patter of paws on the floor as Frost followed her at her heels. She's brought Frost to Fayren the second this had all started to make sure the dog was safe and they'd gotten a little hotel room when they realized they needed stay out of Genessia while Weiss could barely defend herself. She checked the hallway, too. The lobby. She knew she shouldn't be out in her nightgown and she wouldn't allow it if she didn't know something was wrong. Something felt wrong, and Zuko wasn't there.

By the time she'd gone through most of the hotel, the sun was starting to peek out over the horizon. She returned to the room and got dressed. He still wasn't there. What day was it? Weiss had been resting so much she wasn't even sure. A brief glance down to Frost and she grabbed Myrtenaster, locking the dog in the room. She wasn't ready yet, but she was going to go to the Guardian's Tower. Then through Genessia.

The crack in the sky was gone.

It should've been relief she felt, but she didn't know if it was that she couldn't feel things properly still or if that sinking feeling was just too overwhelming. She checked her house, perhaps he'd gone to see if she needed something. She asked around. No one had seen him around town. Weiss already knew what had happened- she'd known it as soon as she woke up, somewhere inside of her, but she didn't give up. The tea shop. Back to Fayren. No. The place she should've checked first?

As she approached the Sunset Summit, she saw the landlord outside cleaning up a few things in the lawn and grumbling about the whole place getting mucked up.

"Hey you. Aren't you that prince's girlfriend? I've seen you over here a few times," the landlord recognized Weiss. Being recognized as such at least gave her a sense of hope. Maybe this person had seen him. Maybe he was here somewhere. "You can clean his stuff out if you like. Moved out of town after this whole fiasco from what I hear."

Her heart dropped, but she nodded. If he was there, if his stuff had been abandoned, and the landlord was saying he was gone-- no. No. Weiss swallowed as the landlord went to go get the key, then handed it to her and told her to bring it right back. Weiss robotically went to the door she'd been to so many times, unlocking it and moving into the apartment. It still smelled faintly of smoke and ash, like he had. But that warmth she always felt coming in here seemed to be gone entirely. Every step she took further, she could feel it rapidly disappearing. Rapidly freezing. They said that ice is even harder the more layers froze on top of each other.

Weiss went to go grab a few things that she knew he had- the necklaces she'd got him with the Dust crystals inside, his Blue Spirit mask and swords that only she and he knew the hiding place of, and any tea leaves she could find. She wouldn't know what to do with them, but it was better than having them thrown out. Weiss didn't think she could stand for something he loved to be thrown out like that. She moved almost automatically, trying to get out of there before this became too much. Because she didn't have someone to pick up those pieces anymore, because she needed to let that ice freeze over her completely again because the person who had made more than a crack, the person who had lit a fire inside of her and melted that ice was gone.

Zuko had been the protective one.

ACTION; MID-MORNING; open to housemates
[ Weiss opened the door slowly with one hand, not really paying attention to how much of a mess there was after the whole thing with the spirits. The normal thing for Weiss to do would probably have been to start complaining about how much of a mess things were, how no one had dusted in days, how if anyone already was home they should've done something already. She didn't know if anyone was. Honestly, she didn't bother checking. If they were home, they would find her. They always did. Weiss appreciated it, no matter how irate she may have acted about it.

But right now she just slowly walked up to her room, the box of things from Zuko's apartment in her arms. She could go back for Frost later, he was safe in the hotel room. But right now, Weiss was going to just sit on her bed with the closed box on her lap. She needed to just sit and think about this for a while before she figured out how to deal with this. She hadn't given herself a chance to process, just going through and doing everything. She didn't even bother to close the door. Maybe she wanted someone to talk to. She wasn't even sure. ]

TEXT; EVENING; ota
Genessia appears to be safe now. I haven't checked Everglade, but the crack is gone here so I assume whoever was doing that succeeded. I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates it.

Zuko's gone home. Anyone who apologizes to me isn't going to be spoken to for at least a week.

Schnee Co., Nova City will continue to operate as a crisis center until everyone is able to get back into their homes. Normal operation of both branches will resume by next week.

[ The gym is still officially closed, but the door is open for Weiss. He expects her arrival to take time, so he uses that to continue straightening up the place. It isn't a disaster like Luke's tea shop, thankfully.

He doesn't care about appearing strong. It's a waste of energy. He isn't getting enough sleep for it. The toll of recent events is obvious. He completely lacks his usual stoicism.

He notices Weiss arrive and raised an arm in greeting.
]

I'll get the coffee.

[ The staff part of the gym has a coffeemaker,so it doesn't take too long. ]

[ This is Mayu's attempt at being there for Weiss, though he's convinced that he's really just being a burden. It's still something that needs to be done, and it's too late to turn Weiss away. He needs a distraction too.

He nods at the thanks, and gives Weie the coffee.
]

I don't know where to start. Go through everything?

[ He has the relevant documents ready, and some that aren't as important. He has blankets if she falls asleep. He constantly takes naps in the gym.]
