[ Lucy looked more than a little disgusted when she saw the newspaper this morning. Particularly the bounty section. ]

Honestly, what kind of repulsive, inhuman monster would want to hurt a unicorn? [ She slapped the newspaper with the back of her hand in scorn. ] Well, they'll get what's coming to them - we'll make sure of that.

[ Harvesting a unicorn's horns. Ugh, it made her want to puke. OH SPEAKING OF PUKING Wait a second... ]

Oh! Satsuki? You wanted a demonstration of our magic, right? Would you like to meet us, and I'll show you what I meant?

[ While waiting for her response, Lucy decided to go for a walk in the forest, as much wanting to get some fresh air and exercise as looking for a good spot to train. Of course, she wasn't alone and we're not talking about certain dragons that are always with her, but a peculiar spirit in particular. Wanting to spend time with Plue as she walked, she followed behind the critter as he himself followed after a blue butterfly. ]

[As if he'd let Lucy go out on her own and train without him. Natsu falls in step with Lucy easily while watching Plue run after that butterfly. He was there first hand to hear Lucy's outburst. So he's occasionally throwing his eyes in her direction to see if she's holding up okay.]

[ She wouldn't dream of leaving without him anyway. Seeing articles about someone hunting unicorns was disturbing enough, but she was also troubled about her conversation with Levy. Knowing she couldn't even trust her best friend...well, let's be fair. It's been a year since she'd even seen Levy - there was more than a little distance between them now. Still it was a little upsetting. ]

Hrm? [ She glanced up from where she was watching Plue try to climb over a log, turning towards Natsu with a quick smile. ]

Oh- y, yeah, just...thinking.

[Natsu was entirely unconvinced by that answer. Why wouldn't he be? After all he knew Lucy like the back of his hand so the tells of lying were known to him as well.]

[ He's learned well in the time he's spent with her. Calling her on lying would make her try to deny it. Try and fail because he could see through her so disturbingly well. She glances at Natsu, then smiles faintly. ]

I was talking to Levy about her choice... she doesn't remember meeting Gajeel. That's the memory she gave up. I'm not sure she understood why I was upset...she kept saying that she'd never forgot Fairy Tail, but...

[ She absently clutched her right hand, glancing down at her guild mark. The concept left her sick to her stomach. ]

[Thankfully Lucy would decide otherwise in the end so he was happy to lend a ear to whatever she had to say. Out of all of Lucy's troubles, Levy's clearly weighed down on her]

Well if Gajeel shows up sometime in the near future it might help fix all of that.

In my world, hunting them is often a necessity. The Unicorn Zhevra in the Barrens are a particularly violent bunch. I've had more guards injured by Unicorn goring than I care to count.

Maybe so, but this isn't your world so that really doesn't apply. The unicorns here haven't attacked anyone - quite the opposite.

[ And if they get gored or trampled hunting a unicorn, people bloody well deserve it. ]

I'm not saying they have. I'm saying that when you spend your life defending yourself from something with a penchant of stabbing people in the chest with their horns, it's understandable that someone might have the instinct to attack them before being attacked themselves.

Not to mention they usually have good meat on them. Again, I'm not defending the attacking of these unicorns, just understanding how someone might want to.

In a situation like that, then the animal would be justified in defending itself. Someone who just assumes a creature or person is going to attack them just based on their own history is pretty close minded to not consider other possibilities. Nevertheless ...

That's not why the unicorns are being attacked. There are hordes of deer that can be hunted for meat, even rabbits, birds, other animals. Specifically targeting unicorns is ridiculous - they're only hunting them for their horns so they can sell them for money.

I agree with you there. If the horns are the only target, it is not only a waste of valuable resource, but an insult to the animal's spirit. My people have long used as much of what we kill as possible, so that their death - however necessary - was not wasted.

Well, for starters, unicorns aren't just any other kind of animal. They're magic, legendary creatures that have always symbolized purity, grace. They're capable of purifying poisons, healing injuries - who knows what else. There are plenty of animals in the forest that are hunted, even if something so stupid as 'sport'. Like Deer.

[ You can't throw a stick and not hit a deer. ]

I'm sure there are laws here to protect the unicorns, but people like smugglers don't really care about things like that. Although it's strange that the unicorns are trapped so easily - they usually stay away from people, and rightfully so. Even talking about killing a unicorn just feels...unclean. Immoral.

[ Oh so very stealthy. Lucy stares at the video oddly for a second, finding the way he was trying to hide weirder than a talking reindeer. The talking was more normal to her anyway. ]

A unicorn is a rarely seen mystical animal that resembles a horse with a horn on its head... Only far more elegant.

I agree - and don't worry, we're going to make sure they can't hurt the unicorns anymore. [ Well - they're not going to KILL the smugglers, that's just not their way, but they're going to stuff them in jail all the same. Just as good. ]
