0 "Impossible" Tasks
Who: Vyse (the Legend) and a buncha ugly goblins
Where: The forests of Fayren, near the last sighting
What: If he can, Vyse wants to look into the rumours of the goblins unifying
When: Saturday, January 25 - Afternoon
Vyse isn't stupid. Upon finding the farm where the last reported sighting of the Goblins' strange Ram symbol, he'd taken to the direction of the nearest encampment. If the people of Genessia thought it was weird for these little green buggers to act that way, then Vyse thought a good way to spend his time was to look into it. The least he could do is warn people if he sees anything... strange. (Not that goblins themselves weren't strange enough.)
He'd come prepared, bringing his weapons with him and taking things slow. Every step he took through the woods was careful, doing everything he could to keep his boots from crunching in the snow too loudly. He used the trees as cover to mask his approach, and kept an eye out for any scouting parties the gobbies would no doubt have keeping watch over their territory. The way he sees it, they're not unlike pirates, or bandits of a sort, and as such they are dangerous and if he had to encounter any of them he wanted to be the one to get the jump on them... or safely run away, if he must.
What was their camp like? He kept an eye out for flags, walls, traps even, anything that would tell him he was getting close.

There are dozens of them, the smaller squat goblins huddled over cookfires and alternating between tearing roasted meat from blackened bones and squabbling over the spoils of their raids. Nearby a few of the larger hobgoblins stand by clad in heavy armor and carrying well-kept swords as opposed to the cracked leather and cheaper weapons their smaller brethren have.
And the Ram Skull flag is flying over their heads.

"Okay..." He mutters to himself, "Looks pretty run-of-the-mill. The flags sure match the description though..."
They're obviously organized and must be utter havoc on anyone who travels through the area. Honestly, he doesn't know who that even might be, but if they get more bold, well...
"Let's see... Where's your leader at..." He says to himself, looking from goblin to hobgoblin, "Eeny-meeny-miney-moe..."

At least right up until one of the larger tents opens up and somebody new steps out. Clearly not a goblin, this newcomer is massive with his lower body and right arm both replaced by robotic parts that really should not belong on anybody native to Fayren. His lower jaw is also replaced by a metal hinge.
Whatever he is, by the way the hoboglins turn their attention to him it's obvious he's running the show in this little camp. He barks a few orders and the hobgoblins snap into action, whipping their smaller brethren into motion.
Literally.

"Whoa."
That's one big ugly. Vyse fixes his attention on this half-mechanical man and kind of squints. Where he comes from, that kind of stuff isn't exactly common, but not impossible either. In fact, considering the guy's part-machine and obviously really bossy and angry, Vyse is reminded of Drachma.
"Well there's the big boss," Vyse said to himself moving to sit with his back against the tree. Taking out his phone, he thought to make a little call... Fayren has a Guardian, if he remembers right, so they may want to know about this development.

He manages to make the call before a ruckus seems to break out in the camp, and a mechanical device floats down, scanning him with a camera for a moment before the "beak" opens up and starts firing a laser weapon at him.
no subject
"Uh oh."
Vyse leaps into the air as the beak opens up, the laser weapons destroying the branch he was on. He lands on the ground and tumbles, knowing now that he's been discovered. But man, how did a bunch of ugly goblins have something that high tech? Well, no time to dwell on it now. It's time to go!
The first thing Vyse does is attempt to his that little scout with an energy wave from his cutlass. So long as that thing's up, he figures they know exactly where he is. But he doesn't stick around to determine whether he hit or not as he doesn't have the luxury of time. He's already about-faced and darting through the woods to make it back to civilization.

If it can, it'll even try to get around ahead of him to steer him back towards the goblins who are even now in hot pursuit despite his head start.

Vyse bound left and right as he was fired down upon, using the trees as cover to obstruct a clear shot. It was when it came down in front of him that he had a problem, the boy practically skidding to a stop. "Whoa!" Backwards? No. Rather than go backwards, Vyse would take a hard right and go... well, not forwards, but not backwards either. He needs to lose this thing, and sticking to where the tree line is thickest works, but he'd kill for a cave or burrow right now.
Where was Aika when you needed her?! She would have made quick work of this thing!
Now with their own fancy account
Instead of the burrow or cave he's been hoping for, he'll get himself a nice, big open clearing and a griffon-like creature swooping down with a shriek. It doesn't go after him though, but it does drop off its passenger.
Trapjaw hits the ground with a loud thud and straightens up, looking Vyse's way.
"Give it up, kid. You got nowhere to go now!"
That's impressive. Now if only you did it justice.
Pausing a moment, he barely turns his head to look up at the "Doomseeker" that had been tailing him and herding him around. Taking that thing out is still priority... he just has to make sure this guy doesn't pound him into paste.
"So, you're not going to wait for your army to catch up? Gutsy," He turns his attention back to Trapjaw, "How do you expect to pull through with whatever plan you're cooking up if you run on ahead all the time?"
I'll show you justice
Trapjaw just guffaws when Vyse mentions him going ahead of the army.
"Who needs an army to take care of a twerp like you? And Skeletor's plan isn't gonna get wrecked because I took a minute to shut you up!" With the beans well and truly spilled on who's behind the goblin uprising, Trapjaw'll go ahead and prove his point by transforming his cyborg arm into a big old energy cannon and opening fire at the punk.
Yes, you just SEEM like a paragon of righteousness.
But Skeletor, huh...? He's going to have to commit that name to memory, assuming his memory's on the ball after getting shot at by a laser cannon. As soon as Trapjaw even moves that big cybernetic arm, Vyse knows it's time to move, and that shot of a laser just misses him as he leaps aside.
It's a lot more jumping and dodging than he cared for. Yeah, some ranged support would have been great right about then - Aika, Gilder, heck, Cupil would have been some help.
"That's a nice arm you've got there! I knew a guy with one a lot like it!" Vyse shouted, side-stepping another laser blast to have it just miss him by passing under his arm. He responded in kind, slashing his main-hand cutlass through the air to send a wave of energy at the guy, and following with a spin to launch yet another from his off-hand just in behind it - one vertical, one horizontal.
I totally am tho
The Doomseeker is still hovering nearby, watching everything going on.
"Hold still ya little-- huh?" Hey, hey, nobody told him about sword lasers! He'll stop his shooting for a second and switch his arm to a shield configuration, catching both waves on it but still staggering back a few steps from the impact.
But would a coward do this? ... Bai!
... To run away. Rather than charge in while Trapjaw is staggering, Vyse turns and high-tails it for the closest tree, dashing to the edge of the clearing. He leaps up, his impressive jumping skills landing him on branch to branch until he's suitably high up, keeping an eye out for that Doomseeker.
"Hold still? No way! If I did that I'd be blown to bits. Come on, seriously."
Yes, that's exactly what a coward would do.
He looks around for a second before spotting Vyse retreating up a tree. The Doomseeker is still hovering around, keeping nearby.
"Hey! Get back down here, punk!" Out comes the cannon again and he aims upwards carefully before firing off another blast Vyse's way.
Not a coward; but a captain
As the cannon comes out again, Vyse is off, leaping fortunately from one tree to the next. When he does, the tree he was on gets decimated, torn down by a force unlike anything he'd seen from a cannon quite that small... This goes on for a while, with Vyse leaping from one to the next, sometimes just barely able to grab onto a branch and swing to another.
After a while of this, he's panting. "Hey! Maybe you should try shooting where I'm going to be instead of where I am!"
He can only hope he's easy to manipulate. All this leaping around serves a purpose, as he's trying to get as close to the Doomseeker as he possibly can. When it's just close enough to be a decent leap away, he looks down at Trapjaw and reaches up to stretch his lower eyelid down and stick out his tongue.
"Nyeh, come on already!" He yells down, "You're not going to catch me like that!"
Then, he makes a leap for the Doomseeker. Of course, the goal isn't the Doomseeker exactly... he comes a bit short, purposely, to instead fall towards the ground. But if he's lucky, and Trapjaw is as dumb as he looks, he hopes there's a friendly fire accident.
A coward captain
But, hey! Thanks for the tip, Vyse! Now he's got you.
"This time I'll get ya, ya lousy, stinkin'...." He takes his time, aiming when Vyse makes his jump and fires again... and then that grin drops right off his face when the blast hits the Doomseeker and blows the mechanical spy right out of the air.
Trapjaw's jaw drops.
It's a tactical retreat, man!
"Hey, nice shot!" The boy grins, standing up straight. Taking Trapjaw's moment of awe, Vyse offers a little salute before turning and dashing off into the woods. It was time to bail on this guy while he had the chance. As he runs, he checks his phone. It seems he's gotten a message. Could he use help? Well, it's a little late it seems. He shoots Fayren's Guardian a little video quip back.
Now that he's done that, it's time to make it back to the road, and then back to the city. But damn if he isn't tired... he needs somewhere to catch his breath, somewhere to stop, but he doesn't know just how quick this Trapjaw is.
You keep saying that, maybe one day you'll believe it.
She just... stands there until Trapjaw can see who she is. Well hai there. She heard you've been making trouble in her forest. She gets a face pulled with a stuck out tongue, before she moves a little to the left, enough that he'd have to redirect slightly is he wants her instead. Baiting. Or, you know, hopefully enough of a distraction that more of a gap builds between Vyse and Trapjaw.
Nah, only a crazy person would try and take this on by themsel- wait a sec...
No. He reasons with himself that if she is the Guardian of Fayren, then she has the strength in some form to back it up. That said, he doesn't stick around and instead continues on his way - but not without offering a little wave to her as a silent sort of 'thank you' and 'be careful' before leaping over an over-turned tree and carrying on.
