Perhaps this question sounds strange, coming from me, but this 'feather' I keep hearing about... all of that carnage. Was it worth it?

{ He would comment on the aspect of invading another city and taking it over, but that kind of spoke for itself.

Ever since the incident in Everglade, Zeref had been avoiding coming into contact with others. It's given him time to think... the last thing he remembered after the Dream Docks was coming up with a plan, that involved going home to Alvarez, and eventually revealing his dual identity. He had a plan, and he would be needing to pay Fairy Tail a little visit in order to enact it. And that was never going to end in anything but bloodshed.

Zeref was sitting against a tree, the necklace dangling from a raised knee. One could hear the sounds of waves, nearby. Fayren, near the harbor, perhaps?

What happened in Attleton the previous day really put things into perspective. War clearly was no different from one world to the other. Human nature was invariable. He had no desire to get involved in this, and Mavis hadn't approached him about it. }

What is this 'feather' capable of?

He doesn't realize he's holding his hand in a fist and he snaps, tone more defensive and on edge than he intended.]

What makes you think you're in any place to judge what's worth it?

That isn't what I asked, Gray. { Yes, he knows your name. } I've given up on asking myself why humans wage wars. Now, I'd prefer to ask them.

[He does look shocked when he says his name, until he remembers that people come and go here.]

Why does it matter who you ask? Won't the outcome remain the same, as far as you're concerned?

I would like to think that the worth of this 'feather' would cause something as pointless as a war fought over an unsatisfactory election result to make sense, but then, perhaps I'm giving people like Gilgamesh too much credit. It is people like him that make it possible for people like me to exist.

{ A beat. }

But to answer you question, no, it wouldn't. Assuming, of course, this feather is as powerful as it seems. I wonder if it can overcome the will of a god...

I can't say. Gilgamesh seems like a power-hungry idiot, but there are plenty of those. The way you talk, it's as if you think you're somehow different from them.

[He narrows his eyes.]

If you're thinking of trying something, don't. Unless you want what's of Fairy Tail here stopping you.

I do, but I won't waste my breath explaining it. Our world has chosen to reject me. Humanity, in its inability to change while hypocritically condemning me for power that I never chose to have but they would claim for themselves in an instant, has proven this time and time again.

{ Zeref frowns at that. }

After all of this time, your guild still has no idea... { He closes his eyes. } If you knew what it was that I wanted, you would want to help me.

I'm guessing you see the situation with this feather as one parallel to your own?

[He's trying to keep his calm, but it's really challenging when everyone is being so damn cryptic. Not just Zeref, though he does play a role in it. He's also the one he ends up taking it out on. His head snaps up and he angrily retorts.]

Nothing is ever truly worth it, I think. But...I guess to get something back that belonged to someone else is one of those exceptions

Somewhat. { Zeref doesn't believe that what he's after in their world can be used the way he'd like to use the feather - at least, not directly - but Gray isn't far off. }

Is that so? You would would pass up a chance to save the lives of others? { Zeref doesn't elaborate, but it's clearly a rhetorical question. } My wish to die is not possible in this world. I've seen the dead come back to life, here, and not only in the form of those from our world whom I know have died being alive and well in Genessia. But perhaps... I can keep an old promise. One that I made a century ago.

I suppose if this feather is as powerful as it seems, perhaps it would be. What I don't understand is why it all began. Was it truly over somebody losing a Guardian's election?

{ Because if so, that's... Kind of sad. }

I don't know, but if it was it's sad. I mean if I had lost the time I had become Guardian I wouldn't have done anything like this. It's just... childish.

[More than childish but she cannot put the words anyway.]

My understanding is that the feather is a piece of her magic.

[Not that Levy knows more than what's been explained to her or what she's overheard from the network.]

I can't say that it's worth it or not, you'd have to ask Gilgamesh that, but I don't think it is. It's taking something that belongs to someone else.

[Which isn't generally a good thing.]

[Rhetorical or not, it makes Gray pause.]

You can't expect people to cooperate with you or even understand you, if you don't trust them enough to share information. [It doesn't hit as hard coming from Zeref. But he's sick of being left in the dark, and when everyone refuses to explain anything...] How about you actually explain what's going on instead of speaking in riddles?

[ Lucy's been a little out of sorts lately so no video for you, nyah ]

I don't really know the situation involved, but I'd have to say no. I don't think anything is 'worth' that kind of carnage and destruction. [ And Gilgamesh appears to be kind of a d*ck sooo... ]

I doubt you'd believe me even if I told you, Gray. But I suppose I'll humor you, just this once.

{ A sigh. He wasn't going to give the full version. Natsu clearly wasn't ready to know, so there was no way in hell he was going to tell Gray, either. }

How much do you know about the gods of our world? And no, I am not referring to the Yakuma War Gods.

This is why I hate politics.

{ Even if Alvarez, he preferred to leave things to the Twelve, and the Ministry. He only ever got involved if they needed the final word on an issue, and that was assuming he was even around to give it at all. Frankly, it was tedious and grated his nerves, fast. Or was it fun ordering people around and treating them like pieces on a live action Risk board? Or both? Or neither?

Zeref pressed the heel of his hand to his forehead, banishing the contradicting thoughts from his mind. He was so not in the mood for that. }

I'm glad I was never nominated for the position.

That doesn't answer me question. I want to know what the feather is truly capable of doing.

The feather is clearly an artifact of great power, one that had fallen into the hands of one who would use it for evil. The fact that he did so in order to forcefully usurp the position of Guardian speaks for itself. I suppose I was just curious as to what, exactly, it is capable of.

I did hear about that feather too.

[And she was wondering about that herself. But she had chosen not to get involved, knowing that her getting involved would undoubtedly mean dragging her whole guild and possibly Zeref with her.

Though... normally she and Natsu would have joined the fight in Attleton, but Lucy'd taken on a lot of missions that left her tied up, and Natsu'd been helping her. ~~At least that's the IC reason ;D;~~ so they hadn't been able to get back in time. ]

Mmm, I think that's something you'd have to ask of the people that it belongs to. It isn't the kind of thing that should be in the hands of someone like that Gilgamesh, though.

I have not met this 'Sakura,' though it is impressive that she had something like this in her possession. { Now he's getting even more curious. } In that, I agree. I find people like him repugnant.

I had no desire to take part in it, either. It didn't sound like they needed my help, anyway. That was quite an impressive response to Gilgamesh's aggression.
