[At some time in the early evening, a public call is made on the videophones. Those who choose to answer it are treated to the sight of a blue-haired teenage girl. She's wearing an unfamiliar black-grey ensemble with traces of purple and other miscellaneous colors, contrasted in style by a necklace whose brightest stone is a deep red—proof that she's another outsider who has been brought in. She doesn't really look particularly bothered by being here, either; more neutral than anything else, at least for now.

Being anywhere at all is at least marginally better than being nowhere, after all.]

This isn't exactly what I had in mind... [She briefly mutters to herself, though not quietly enough for it not to be heard. After that, she speaks up, now addressing anyone watching and listening:] Anyway, uh. Hi.

It's probably obvious, but I'm new here. The name's Mirys, and that holo you've got set up out here says I'm supposed to look for work while I'm around. [The word "work" is spoken with a vague hint of distaste; the thought of needing to look for jobs to do brings up some recent and fairly unwelcome memories.] Not really sure what sort of stuff would be in demand, though. I've got some experience as a hunter— [What kind of hunter isn't specified, though it might be obvious from what she says next:] —but I'd prefer to avoid that line of work if I can, and I'm fine with learning something new. If location matters, I'm probably gonna be trying to find a place to stay in... [Fumbling around with a copy of the map real quick.] ...Nova City? Something in or around there would probably work best.

I'm Sein, and, uh... I'm not going to be much help offering a place of work, but hi anyways!

Didn't sound like one, from what bit of info there is in this thing. [She waves the map brochure she's holding in front of the camera briefly.

Then she shrugs.] And don't worry about it too much, I guess. I mean, I could look around by myself for a bit if it comes down to it.

Fair enough. Plenty of offerings to be had, for sure...

I'd imagine. It's probably just gonna be a case of finding something I'm actually confortable with doing.

Yeah, that's true. I just help out at an arcade, so...

An arcade as in a video arcade? [Those things still exist? It's all holos and VRs where she's from, and a lot of them had doubled as training exercises.]

Yeah. It's a good way to blow off some steam!

[ Here's a violet haired woman... who doesn't look to friendly at the mention of her word 'hunter.' ]

A hunter of what, prey tell?

Of whatever I'm paid to hunt. [So, a bounty hunter?]

Like I said, though, I'd prefer to avoid that sort of work if I can.

Bounty hunting? Hmm, acceptable.

[ She doesn't want some fool trying to do away with her best friend, Remilia. ]

You're going to have to be a little more specific about what kind of hunter you are. It means different things in different worlds.

[There's a brief flash of recognition, for what should be very obvious reasons.]

Right, right, it kinda slipped my mind for a minute there. I did some work as a bounty hunter back where I'm from. Not too fond of it, to be honest.

There are enough bounty hunters around here anyway, it may be a little difficult to get enough to make a living out of it here even if that was what you wanted to do. But that does tell me you have combative skills. What sort of thing are you interested in doing?

Anything that would be less likely to get me killed. I'm not in any real position to be picky.

[Her initial response is...not exactly helpful. However, since she's being asked what sort of thing she would be into and it is relevant here:] But, well, something involving modern tech would be nice, even though I'd need some time to really learn what I'd have to do or not do. Always had an interest in how stuff worked, how it was made, and things like that, but I never actually got an opportunity for it back where I'm from.

[She doesn't even think twice about not calling it home.]

If you're interested in things like that, I do happen to be the founder of the Genessia Scientific Research Foundation. Which means as long as you try to stick toward the Foundation's general goal, you're welcome to use our resources for technological exploration and development. The GSRF is a non-profit organization, but we make sure to pay our scientists so long as they're making some headway.

Just to be sure we're on the same page here, you do know that by "never got an opportunity" I mean "never got an opportunity"? As in, I never had the chance to start learning to begin with?

[Beat.]

Are you sure you want to make an offer to somebody that has literally zero experience? [There's a question behind that snark: Do you or one of your employees have the time and patience to try their hand at teaching, Weiss? Mirys did indicate in her original message that she would be willing to learn, after all.]

I'm not an utter dolt, I wouldn't make the offer if I hadn't been paying attention. Also, if you never had the opportunity and were actually interested, I would assume you would've found a way to at least look into reading things on your free time. If you didn't even bother with that then I'm not sure you could call it a real interest.

[ If she wants to be insulting, Weiss has no problem insulting right back. ]

Either you try your hand at it and are useful or you continue to have that be an unexplored possibility: That much is up to you.

[Mirys pauses, thrown off by Weiss actually taking a shot right back; for some reason or another, she actually wasn't expecting that.]

Point.

Gonna go get started, then. [She'll find herself something small to start off with while she starts looking into the things she wants to do. That way, if it turns out that things won't work out, she still has something to fall back on.]

[ Weiss tries to present herself as someone who's customer service friendly and willing to help. It's part of the whole welcoming company bit. Which can make it a little more bracing when her actual personality comes out. ]

That's a much more acceptable attitude.

It would be rather nice to be able to simply allow others to do the work on your behalf from time to time..

Although such a sedentary lifestyle would be rather boring for me. What did the duties of a hunter entail exactly? Assuming you are not referring to the type of hunting one does in a forest.

It's the sort of hunting that other people pay you to do. Sometimes it's dangerous creatures, sometimes it's dangerous people, and sometimes it's just a bit of pest control, it depends on what people want or need to have done.

I see. It is not unlike the duties of a Fencer where my companion and I are from. And you do not enjoy that sort of thing? What type of career would you prefer, given a choice?

I got into that sort of work because I was in a situation where I really didn't have any better options at the time. Would you like it if you felt forced into it?

[A rhetorical question. She continues immediately rather than wait for a response.]

As for what I'd like to do, I'd say something a hell of a lot quieter and less likely to end with me being dead. Preferably something to do with technology.

Then I suspect your best option to find such employment would be in Nova City. That place seemed to be quite... advanced. I know little about its inhabitants, though the Guardian is said to be quite serious, if a touch chilly to some. Nevertheless it is not as if you require her approval to employ yourself there.

Nova City's the first place I'd planned on looking if I didn't get any leads, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. [Hearing it be suggested after already having decided that she would look into it tells her that she's probably on the right track.

Genessia seems to be accomodating to whatever you want to do.

Don't feel limited to any professions you used to do.

I find that Genessia is an opportunity for a change of pace, in fact.

[Mirys pauses briefly before responding.]

A change of pace, huh? [Doing something entirely new doesn't sound unappealing. In fact, the more distance she can create between herself and the past, the better.

Thanks to her limited experiences, though, she's not really sure what she wants to do. Or rather, she knows what she would be interested in doing, but isn't entirely sure how to proceed, as she lacks the experience or know-how necessary for those things. ...Maybe instead of thinking about what she wants to do, she should start with thinking about how to get there.]

I think I've been needing a fresh start for awhile now. You know of any places in Nova that are looking for help?

[ Porrim pulls out her newspaper. ]

There doesn't seem to be anything explicitly listed in the paper, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. The job center can help you find employment, but really just about any place is likely to take you if you ask.

I started off at a clothing boutique. It was my first time with a 'job' sort of. It wasn't unpleasant. I like my new one better, though, even if it's more responsibility.
