Reading is Fun!....damental.
WHO: Lucy Heartfilia, Blake Belladonna
WHAT: A Meeting between Booknerds
WHEN: Today
WHERE: The library in Nova City
While the early morning training with Erza had been a few days ago, Lucy still felt sore, and in places she didn't think she could even be sore. The woman was a demon! She had some free time today though, with her friends out training or (hopefully not) getting into some sort of trouble, she decided to head to the library. Not alone though, oh no. She learned her lesson on that one - trotting along at her side was the little dog spirit (and evil mastermind), Plue.
It took longer than she'd liked to even get the door open, but oh well. A nice hot bath later would help immensely. Once inside the library, she set Plue down and cast a curious look for other booknerds around on her way to one of the bookshelves off the shelf. It wasn't just for fun and relaxation she was here - she was here for information too. "I'm going to grab a few more books Plue - go ahead and wait for me over there." She nodded towards a nice quiet spot by the window.

She was on her own today, true, but she was still on her guard and armed with Gambol Shroud on her back. But the first rule of being a Huntress was to never go anywhere without your weapon at hand.
Still, she wasn't looking for a fight at the moment when she came out of one of the rows with her nose in a book and heading for a quiet-looking spot she'd noticed beside a window. It was there that she just managed to stop herself from stumbling over a little white creature with a bizarre cone-shaped nose.
"Hm?" She blinked, crouching down and tilting her head to get a closer look at Plue while he shivered and shook away at her. "... Er, what are you supposed to be?"
no subject
He may be the celestial spirit of a chihuahua as much as he shivered around people. However, he wasn't alone long, as Lucy emerged from around the other set of bookshelves, somewhat stiffly. "I'm right here, Plue. What's - oh!"
Spying the dark haired girl, Lucy smiled a greeting. "I didn't know someone else was already here in the library."
no subject
That was adorable.
A little smile crossed Blake's face and she raised a hand to return the greeting, when she picked up somebody else approaching. She stood up, turning when Lucy made her appearance.
"Neither did I." Well... that wasn't exactly true, she'd heard somebody moving around but actually explaining how she'd managed that would take an explanation. Instead, she glanced down at Plue again. "Is he yours?"
no subject
"He's a friend of mine, yes." She'd never say Plue belonged to her - even if the contracts are more or less 'ownership' in a way, it just left a bad feeling in her mouth to address someone like that. "My name is Lucy," And freeing up an arm to motion at the little critter. "and he's Plue."
no subject
Lucy... Ruby had mentioned meeting somebody by that name, one of those Fairy Tail people. Was this the same girl?
"I'm Blake." She gave a look to the books in Lucy's arms. It seemed she was having a tough time today. "Do you need some help with those?"
no subject
"Aahah - if you wouldn't mind..? I guess I took more than I should have. I'm still sore from training. Were you going to sit here too?" She tilted her head curiously, "Do you mind if I sit here too?"
no subject
"Not at all." She made a note of the page in the book she had picked up herself, before making her way over to the table. "You'll have to make room though."
And as they got closer, Lucy could see just what she meant by that when the stack of books cluttering up a large section of the table came into view.
Apparently that one book had been an afterthought.
no subject
"You're... reading all of these...!?" Surprise gives way to a grin, and Lucy set the books she had still been carrying on the floor by the chair, giving Blake the table for her book stand.
"I didn't think I'd meet a fellow book lover -" The sight of it made her think of Levy, the brief time she'd spent with her bestie. She collected Plue from the floor and set him on the table near the books, mindful of the tower, and the celestial spirit stared incredulously, letting out a 'Puuuuuuuuuuuh' of admiration.
"Is it research or pleasure?" Or both?
This IS the girl who reads two books at once.
Oh? Another fan of books? She glanced up, giving Lucy a grin.
"It can get pretty lonely, can't it?" She turned her attention back to the books and brought a hand to her chin thoughtfully. "A little bit of both. I had hoped to find out more about this place but... none of these books seem to be about anything here. Unless you count the tourism guides."
She doesn't.
Clearly they will be the best of friends. :3
"Actually I came to do the same thing - especially after that thing that showed up a little while ago. That huge monster? Were you caught up in that too?" She frowns a little, "Strange that there wouldn't be anything on the place though - not even archives. But maybe between the two of us we might find something interesting."
Tourism guides totally don't count.
no subject
"Yes, I was part of the group trying to immobilize its legs. At least, I was until I was separated from them and wound up fighting several of those smaller creatures." She frowned. "I thought, if something like that had happened before, that there might be some record of it. Maybe a clue as to what it was, or where it came from but so far there's been nothing."
no subject
"But you've had the same idea I did," Lucy noted thoughtfully. "Whatever that thing is, why it showed up, everything about it - it's like one great big secret. Somehow that doesn't surprise me though. That just means that people like us have to dig deep to find out what the mystery is."
She paused. "Speaking of that fight... do you know about a wizard named Kefka?"
no subject
"She and Ruby were the ones who took it down." With help from the Genessia Guardian and his jet. Honestly, it wasn't a surprise that Ruby had come up with a plan that involved flying an airplane into it.
"And we have no idea if, or when, another one might appear. If we could find something about it happening in the past, maybe we could at least predict it." She frowned at the stack of books as if she almost thought glaring at them would force them to give up some answers, only stopping when Lucy asked her next question. "Hm? Kefka? No, I haven't met anybody with that name."
no subject
She turned her focus briefly to the books, thoughtful. "At least I don't have to read these, if you haven't found any information in them. Likewise, you can eliminate these titles I've read. It'll save you from wasting your time." It'd be nice if there was a clue to what they were looking for though.
When Blake mentioned she hadn't met Kefka, Lucy grimaced. "If you do, I would exercise caution. He's a madman- a self proclaimed God of Magic. When an ally of mine and I were fighting the creatures, he cast some kind of spell to increase their speed and make battle more difficult for us. To tell the truth, I wouldn't have come out of that quite so well if Natsu hadn't shown up when he did." Best timing ever.
Sorry for the wait. Work murdered my ability to tag this week.
She gave a glance toward the stack of books and nodded. "We should compare notes, make sure we're not going over anything twice."
Talk of Kefka brought a sigh from her, and her eyes narrowed. Another maniac to worry about.
"We certainly don't have any shortage of madmen in this place. I hope somebody warned you about the others?"
No problem! :)
"It is a little annoying, to think that no matter where you go there's always someone who wants to ruin things." At the same time she'd miss having something to challenge her - and Natsu would probably get bored with nothing to fight too. Though if they could limit that to just the occasional monster she'd be happy. "Ruby warned me about someone named Skeletor, Bison and an 'M' character - is there anyone else other than that?"
Boy she hoped not.
no subject
"Bison and 'M' seem to be the worst of them so far. We've managed to make enemies of both of them as well." Well, at least Bison. She couldn't say she had any idea what was going through M's mind.

She just sighs, rubbing her forehead.
"Sorry, but, would you mind if we talked about something else? I just spent a long time dealing with one of them, and I was hoping to focus on something else for a little while."

She glanced at Plue, reaching into her purse to pull out a candy stick she got at the store, handing it to him since he was being such a good boy. Enjoy the sight of the teeny Plue enjoying some candy, Blake.
"So what kind of things do you read, when you're not researching things like this." She motioned at the pile of books.
no subject
That smile widened a little bit while she watched Plue snack away at his piece of candy, and let out a quiet, amused breath. ... You had to know her, she was practically squeeing over him.
"That's a difficult question." She paused thoughtfully, considering. She really did read a little of everything, but she knew that wasn't at all a good answer. "I suppose lately I've been reading a lot of mystery. What about you?"
no subject
She grinned at Blake's smile, both girls watching Plue snack away - she'd giggle if she knew that was Blake's 'squeeing' face. "Me? Actually I do more writing than I do reading, sometimes. Most of the time it's about my adventures within Fairy Tail, but occasionally I do branch out to write something new now and again."
no subject
She watched Plue snack for a little while longer before turning her attention back to Lucy.
"You mentioned being a writer earlier." Now that was interesting. She was always interested in something new. "Have you been working on anything since you arrived here?"
no subject
As the topic turned to the other favorite thing that Lucy liked to do - i.e. writing, she grinned, nodding to the question. "Yeah, actually. Most of what I've written are about some of the missions I've been on, but I have one or two in the works that are 'original' stories, so to speak."
no subject
Missions from back home? That certainly caught her interest. She'd grown up reading stories about adventures and worlds of magic for so long, it would be something else to read actual true stories of a place like that.
"That sounds interesting. I'd love to read some of it sometime."
no subject
Fortunately Lucy's gotten over her initial shyness of others reading her stories long ago, so she grins at Blake, nodding. "I'd be happy to bring one of them by next time I come to the library- or actually, once our guild is built I know Erza and Natsu are going to want to throw a party. If you think you'd like to come, then you can consider this a formal pre-party invitation."
She chuckled. "I didn't know you then, but I was going to invite Ruby and her friends from Beacon anyway." This just saved time! Sorta.
no subject
A party? She briefly considers that idea. She wasn't much for groups of people, but she'd liked everyone she'd met from Fairy Tail so far and if the rest of her team were invited as well.
Finally, she nods after a second or two of thought. "I'd like that."
no subject
Watching Blake curiously as she considered the offer, she grinned at the final answer, nodding. "Great! We'll be glad to see you there. I should warn you though, things can get a little crazy sometimes. ... most of the time... all of the time."
