[Azalea's been listening to all the talk about the upcoming elections lately, wishing she could help somehow. And yet she finds that her confidence has yet to be restored after being freed from her plague.]

So...this place can change its Guardians? I never knew that. Part of me wishes that I could be a Guardian...and yet I don't quite feel ready. Perhaps if I had my clan behind me...

[Her own clan leader and founders would be the only ones she would trust to guide her in a Guardian position. It is at this point that she realizes that her recent visit to the Dream Docks wasn't quite enough. She still misses her clan. She lets out a melancholy sigh.]

I've met many nice people here...and yet I still feel so lonely without my clan. Ah well...there's really nothing I can do about that...

[Ted wanted to caution again bringing back her clan for reasons of an emotional crutch; they weren't 'real' and, moreover, might have an antisocial effect that'd be hard to recover from. If only he knew a better way to word it.

There was one psychological motivation he was somewhat curious about, however.]

"Out of curiosity, why would you want to be a Guardian?"

[He assumed, being a dragon, it was the wealth involved.]

[She actually doesn't need the wealth.]

I want to help protect people, especially those who can't protect themselves. I know what it's like to be in distress, and it's a terrible feeling.

"Noble enough reply. My further question, then, is: why do you think that job would help you do that more than your powers already allow?"

...Perhaps it wouldn't...hence my hesitation. Even if I did get the position, I would still answer to Qubine...and Usha and Grim.

But I am curious...why did you become a Guardian?

[Ted doesn't really strike her as a guardian type.]

"Heh, well there's no way to say this without sounding like boasting. I became one because I saw an evil no one else cared to."

...You mean that person..."Dracula?"

[It sounds like a personal vendetta more than anything, but she doesn't know enough to throw accusations.]

" 'Person' is a bit generous, but yes, that's an evil without. Once I got here, the evils within made themselves known, and I've been busying myself chasing out the darkness ever since. Even got a few headlines for my trouble."

Well...I don't know what else to call him...

[Dracula seems different from humans, but he didn't strike her as a beast. And "vampire" isn't a word in her vocabulary.]

Whether or not he's as evil as you say, I can see that he spoke the truth about you.

[ "The Devil" would do fine. "Child of wrath" is another good one. Oh, can't forget "blight on the earth".]

"Did he? Well, then let's pray he repents and incorporates truth telling into his daily routine. It'd make a much better hobby than attacking native spirits and endangering the entire world and everyone in it."

He's going to put a very fine point on that.

You know I wasn't here when that happened, and it's in the past anyway.

[She sounds much more firm now.]

It's time to let it go.

[It usually took a lot to make Ted angry, but that just about did it. As though threatening to kill everyone, or worse, were some trifle merely due to the passage of time. He felt foolish, thinking that this dragon might have been a "good" kind. Some things never change. It was clear from that statement alone she cared nothing for the well-being of anyone beyond the immediately conspicuous. And she claimed to want to protect people? Looked like his gullibility got the better of him.

Still, he was working on keeping his cool. Tearing into someone, however richly deserved, wasn't exactly professional.]

"Good evening, Azalea."

Good evening...?

[Now there's just a hint of confusion in her voice. What has she done?]

I assume you mean by clan, you mean people behind you, right?

[She still smiles slightly.]

But I can understand missing people and feeling lonely without them/

Well...I meant my dragon friends back home. Qubine knows much more about being a leader than I do, and he's not afraid to dish out punishment when he needs to.

[Even if many people would disagree with his method of punishment.]

Perhaps by being here it is a way for you to learn how to be.

[She would like to believe that this place has some good thingd about it after all.]

[She puzzles over Belle's words for a moment.]

...Perhaps. I should probably learn more about what these Guardians do before I try running.

I'm sure there is a book somewhere in the library if you want me to find it?

[It gave her something to do while at work.]

[The idea of reading normally bores her, but she could probably make an exception this time.]

[She nodded, as she was already off to trying to look for it, all the while still speaking to the other.]

You'll probably have some time to learn about it, but I like checking to see what is here just in case.

I think you could make a good Guardian, you just need that little faith in yourself and those that support you.

[He found he got through a decent amount because of his friends.]

For now, I think you will have my vote for Everglade's Guardian. I have...a bad feeling about the other two candidates.

Well...Theodore Satchel and Dracula...they seem to have a personal vendetta with one another. That can't be healthy, least of all to the innocents who happen to be caught in the crossfire.

[Perhaps Fai can answer the question honestly.]

Theodore had said that Dracula had endangered everyone in Genessia by attacking the native spirits. Do you know if that's true?

I have heard that the reason for the increase in spirits was because of Dracula. But that is about all I know of him. So whatever vendetta they have for one another is there business. They shouldn't really bring it to the election.

True, they shouldn't...but I have a feeling that they will anyway.

And if they do I'll make sure I deal with it and hope that makes people see me as the better choice because using this election for there own personal vendetta is not right. These are peoples lives we are meant to be protecting if we're voted and there is no time to play up childish things like that.

If that Dracula had done more, we would have known about it by now anyway.

I hope they will see you as the better choice, if they haven't already. You've already proven yourself once.

But so has Ted on a few occasions as well. I just have to hope my helping to protect the city by using barriers to give us warning on the spirit thing is enough. I will try to have hope anyway.

If that isn't enough, they should also remember how you organized the resistance against Gilgamesh when he took over Attleton.

Organized would be an interesting concept when you had some who did go alone. But I did my best in that one.

However, this is not about me, it was about you. Which I should add now I am back I am sorting out a place for you to meet that girl if you can remember that I ask you about it.

Well, I don't have a particular preference. Is there a specific place where she feels most comfortable?

I don't know yet, it would be something I would need to ask her. Shouldn't take too long before I get back to you on that.

En effet! There is an election every...six months or so, from what I can see. If only one candidate stands for a position, they are automatically elected, if there is more than one then it turns to a vote.

I understand that very few the same great powers as I, but do you not feel you have enough power alone to take on such a role?

...Not alone, no. If there's one thing I learned from the incident in Attleton, it's that no one stands a chance alone. Only with the support of others can one succeed in fulfilling a role as a leader or guardian.

It does help, I suppose. Greater hands make lighter work, or so they say.

Indeed. Even Gilgamesh, with all of his power, couldn't take over Attleton alone. Too many people opposed him.

And that was a glorious victory for us. It certainly eased the damage having the support... Less said on the last time I challenged a powerful adversary alone here, the better.

I take it...the last time didn't go well?

That is something of an understatement.

[It still hurt his pride to think about such a crushing loss, and living with the wounds he had gained in that fight was painful enough.]

...My opponent pulled an extremely dishonourable tactic, and I ended up quite severely wounded as a result.

I see. Well, battles aren't always won fairly. You do whatever it takes to win, no matter how dishonorable, especially when your life is on the line. That's what I've learned in Sornieth.

Oh, of course not, such is the way with the Netherworld as well. Still, I much prefer to win a battle with some degree of elegance than resorting to cowardly tactics. It makes more of an impression that way.

Perhaps, if your opponent survives. To our enemies, we make more of an impression with our viciousness rather than elegance, and vice versa.

Who's to say the two are mutually exclusive? I like to believe it possible - and I am a fine example of such if I do say so myself - to be elegant and deadly in our battles.

Alas, I think that fight was decided as soon as he got a good grasp on my wings.

Oh...so your wings are your weakness?

Mm, not exactly. A demon's wings are delicate things, but I imagine there are few people who wouldn't wince when an enemy pulls a strategy like that.
