To those who are seeing me for the first time, my name is Vlad III Tepes, lord of Castlevania in Everglade. I come to you with a message for the residents of Everglade. Congratulations on surviving the rule of the buffoon tyrant. For too long the residents of this city have been misunderstood, their wishes ignored, and the laws of an ignorant, close-minded fool have been imposed on them.

I have seen first hand the issues this idiot's policies have inflicted on the populous. Refugees seeking asylum in Castlevania from the tyrant and his policies has never been higher than in the time since the ban on necromancy was put into law. Even when the people opposed this move, the tyrant fool remained steadfast in his ignorance.

So people of Everglade, I urge you, rise up against this fool, cast him down and select a more worthy leader. I have lived among you for quite some time now, and am one of you. I am no stranger to the dark arts and I am myself open about my status as one of the undead. It is time Everglade's will be returned to its people, not closed-minded bigots that refuse to understand.

Like me. You'll forgive me if I have no intention of revealing my identity to the people who want to surpress anyone with this capability. It isn't like I would be going around and raising up peoples' grandmothers.

You don't have to reveal your identity, but I'd like to hear how the ban has negatively impacted your life, if you're willing to share it.

It hasn't yet because I stay far from Everglade more often than not. Something that isn't an option for anyone without a pendant, unless you're planning on personally escorting everyone with the ability out of the city whether they want to be forced out of their homes or not.

[ It's a little difficult to answer that exactly, considering she.. can't actually do it. She should be able to and she can start the glyph for it, but.. well, let's just say one person can't be perfect at everything. ]

Exactly how has it negatively impacted your life to the point that you feel it's necessary to ban everyone from using it? Exactly how is that solving the problems Everglade has in the first place? Exactly where is the proof that this ban has done anything beyond bring crime rates up in Everglade by criminalizing people who had no evidence of immoral activity with their craft? Why would your city guardian go to a place that's literally known for a specific type of people, that's given them a home, and start eradicating an entire group of people as if they're the only source of crime in the world? Why not just ban the raising of sapient creatures without established consent?

I'm a little confused, because necromancy is a type of magic, not a type of person. People aren't getting banned, actions are. Necromancers aren't being banned, necromancy is.

[ She really wished she could say that exceptions could be made for people who are obviously using it for essential purposes, but she knows that Ted won't go for that. She's starting to feel fake with how she's being two-faced defending Ted in ways she disagrees with. ]

Banning necromancy is banning an act that some people do as a part of who they are. It's not magic in some worlds, it's a part of some individuals' souls.

You're just assuming your experiences are true of every world and every person here.

So what do you use your necromancy for, exactly?

[ Maybe they had examples of positive things? Or at least harmless ones? ]

In my world, my family uses it to protect people from soulless monsters in our world. They protect us in battle, give us an advantage when we're outnumbered, and help us fight to keep those who are still living alive.

I know that it can be used wrongly, but so can just about any form of magic. You don't see anyone banning fire because it burns people alive if used for wrong or not properly controlled, nor do you see anyone banning mind-reading because of the huge invasion of privacy it causes.

Perhaps the guardian's office should do its job and protect the city from people who are actually causing problems instead of just trying to outlaw anything that may be used wrongly?

[ Honestly, Porrim agreed. ]

Thank you very much for sharing that with me.

[ It seemed like it was time for a change. ]
